Strange stuff in the Tri-Valley Conference

Post by 93Bulldog »

The week 5 trivalleyconference.com web site and leaderboard will be uploaded Monday morning so you can look at ALL THE IN DEPTH stats by the Ohio and Hocking teams and players.

Looking over some mid-season information ... I'm starting to believe 2009 is just an awkward year for football in the TVC ... all kinds of odd things rae happening

1. How about the Spartans and Bulldogs both 5-0 and about to face off against each other ... now that is freakin crazy, its most likely never happened before so Friday's game provides everyone with something totally different than what their probably use too in Athens County.

2. Here is a good one: Miller has the No. 1 rushing offense in the TVC-Hocking - but 2nd to last in team scoring offense and fourth in total team offense ... that just weird.

3. I bet nobody could have guessed the leading recievers in TVC-Ohio and Hocking after five games - before the season started ... Its KYLE MATTESON of Wellston and MIKE JOHNSON from Eastern ... what is odd, Eastern ran the Wing-T for a while up until this year, so people probably didn't expect much passing from them - and - Wellston always has been a smash mouth running team so picking MATTESON would have been a stretch prior to the first kick-off ... To have those two kids leading is something I did not expect.

4. Athens is 5-0 and Alexander 5-0 but Meigs IS 1-4 AND Wellston is 1-4 ... Maybe im reading the standings upside down - but NY is undefeated so I must be reading it right.

5. This one is really odd ... Trimble has only one victory at the half-way point - while Eastern has tripled the Tomcats win total - and get this, so has Southern! WHAT??? And the Lancers are winless??? Man, what happened to the little schools in Meigs, did they change their water plant or something?

6. The top rushing team with conferences put together is the Alexander Spartans? What? Over 1,500 yards through 5 games - that's 300 yds on the ground per game averaged out ... plus they have scored 23 rushing TD's ... wow!

7. Never would I have believed the Bulldogs would have the No. 1 Defense in the league after 5 contests ... only 39 pts total have they given up all season long ... that is impressive.

8 ... Other oddities - Meigs (1-4), Jake Hedrick being the No. 3 rusher in the Ohio, Greg Jenkins closing in on Dyla type numbers in the Hocking, Brayden Pratt (Eastern) has been a surprise ... him and Trey Harris are through the roof so far when it comes to QB stats.

93Bulldog....It's Jeff Matteson from Wellston.

Kyle Matteson is from Vinton County.

In addition, if anybody knows the first thing about Wellston football for the past 2 1/2 seasons, he or she would know that Wellston has thrown the ball more in that time span and has tried to get the ball to Matteson either deep or on the outside. He has had a lot of receptions the past 2 1/2 seasons. This should not be a "stretch" as you call it at all.

Leave it to Southern fans to hijack a thread and ruin a well intended poll...

I am starting to think they need an IQ test to be a moderator.... I din't think moderators should be saying negative things about the teams they are supposed to be, in some cases, defending....are you saying southern and eastern suck and should never be near the top of the hocking or post a winning record.......WOW![/quote]

You are not seriously taking credit for that state title game run? That is a discredit to coach Sammons and his staff.

Sorry if anyone took my post as 'negative', which of course is totally inaccurate ... If anyone has seen my posts supporting Eastern & Southern would absolutly know THAT I HAVE BEEN touting them all year! I did the preview for them in the paper, ive talked to their coaches numerous times on the phone, sometimes as late as 1:00 in the morning ... How anyone could think I was treating them negatively must not read SEOPS very often .... The points made in the original post reflected how D.I.F.F.E.R.E.N.T things are in the TVC as opposed to the past 7 or 8 years.

I hope that is understood now.

Maybe I should make sure I don't tell my girlfriend tonight how different her hair looks after going to the beauty parlor this afternoon .... She might blow up on me and say that I don't like it and accuse of me being negative toward her new style ...

From a Buckeye perspective, NY is 5-0 and other than Arnold, the starting lineup is filled with sophomores. I think it's impressive a team could be 5-0 and have the varsity lineup consist of almost entirely sophomores.

NY is going to be fierce in the 2010 and 2011 seasons when those sophomores become juniors and seniors.

Those sophomores aren't sophomores any more! They grew up in the first 4 weeks of the season. They play like juniors. No matter what happens the last 5 games of this year, the next 2 years are going to be pretty dang fun!

What exactly does that D.I.F.F.E.R.E.N.T. acronym mean?

Orange & Brown

Its pretty cool to think that the Athens/Nelsonville-York match-up will be an unbelievable 'rivalry' game for the next couple of years ... Ive seen the kids from NY and yes there pretty good ... But you lose Arnold and he is a huge X-factor for the 'Bucks ...

With Athens having a ton of underclassmen (which Adams deserves a lot of credit for by building a football foundation that produces more players every year) they too will be solid next year and in 2011 ...

We had 'epic battle No. uno' last year ... (thx to Mr. Fox, NY won that round)
We will definitely have 'epic battle No. 2' this year ...

And in 2010, Athens will still have Trey Harris at quarterback, Ian Dixon at WR, DeVon Sharp at tailback and Tanner Weaver at runningback ... All four of those kids are ranked in the top 8 of the TVC-Ohio statistical rankings ... So 'Bucks-'Dogs 2010 should be a doozy as well.

Also for Athens; Chris Russell has been a lightning rod in the 4th quarter (17 carries - 204 yds and 3 TD's) and he is part of that soph class that includes Seth Stalder, Josh Skinner, DeVon Sharp, Mitch Rider, Travis Taylor 205 lbs, Trevor Sorrell 225 lbs, Zach Williams 240 lbs ... Throw them in with all the juniors like Joe Germano (who has been a beast on defense for Athens), Colton Noftz, Mason Kottyan 300 lbs, Zac Martin 220 lbs, Dan Deluca 215 lbs, Korey Sweeney (another promising tailback) ...

So those who think Athens will just go away after this years run may want to take another look at their roster ... Plus, the freshmen have won at every level since the 4th grade, the middle school teams are doing well and even the 5th and 6th graders I have heard are pretty strong ... How in the world Athens has pulled itself out of a black hole filled with losing seasons and terrible numbers (in terms of players) is beyond me ... but it does seem as if they are on the upswing right now and a lot probably needs to be credited back to Adams.

This year is definitly 'special' when it comes to ALEX, NY & ATHENS ... but... with the Spartans and their young skill players, NY with its strong underclass and Athens still having a lot of its stars returning next year, who's to say 2010 won't be just as intriguing???

Marshal ... it means exactly what it says ... different ... I figured spelling it out with periods would emphasize how important the word is. Different does not mean 'bad' or 'worse' ... nor is it a negative comment by any means.

Not taking nothing away from Arnold. But 3 tailbacks behind him that more than likely would start at just about any school around here.Plus Cunninham dean young breeze lightwine NY stacked with a SUPER SOPHMORE CLASS.These kids are getting playing time now with a year of varsity under thier belts.NY is expecting Bigger things out of our young players.
