Yes I saw that. He has been hitting the ball great all season. I really think he is a strong canidate for the Offensive MVP of the Hocking. I also think Tyler Thompson is the obvious choice for the Defensive MVP. Keep up the good work...

Those in Athens County have got to be stoked about the possibilities of this years' American Legion team, which could be the areas best since the 1990 State Championship squad. Going straight into a '9-inning' setting and playing almost everyday, pitching can become a problem for some summer teams ... But Athens this year should have one of the deepest pitching staffs I have ever seen for one particular team ... Two aces in Tyler Thompson & Jared Cline - a solid group of No. 2 starters in Lance Sharp, Colton Noftz, Douglas Chapman and Dean Maffin, who could be considered an ace on most other teams ... And the you have players like Daniel Gillespie, Isaac Stack and who knows what the kids from Alexander will do like Cody Lawson (who may or may not play depending on how much they are looking forward to football season.)

Wow, an 8-man rotation ... that's not to shabby ... Athens may have to look into developing a 'starting rotation' and a relief pitching corps ... plus perhaps even making one pitcher a closer.

Maybe we could get 93Bulldog to be head coach and director of media relations.... ;-)

I'm sure P21 appreciates all the love but there are several factors that determine how well a season goes. One of those factors is who actually comes back out for the team. Priorities change as kids go through high school and sometimes baseball moves to the back burner behind jobs, cars, girls and other sports. I learned a long time ago not to set expectations too high based on who we thought was coming out for the team.

Also I hesitate to emphasize how many returners we have because it may discourage younger kids from playing. Then one or two returners change their mind about playing and the potential of the team drops much lower.

I prefer to encourage everyone to at least come to tryouts. If you are a serious player, you may be better than you thought or maybe not as good. You don't know until you play on the same field. I've seen kids that thought they would maybe make the junior team but ended up being a solid contributor on the senior team and I have seen All District players that assumed they were the best in the area but struggled against Legion competion. If you are young, come to the tryouts, even if you don't make the team you will know what to expect next year. If you make one of our legion teams, you will be have alot of fun and play alot of baseball and be a better player for you high school team next year.

Am I excited about this year's P21 Baseball team? Yes, but I'm excited every year. The bottom line is that we need all the talent in Athens County if we want to compete against the big boys up north and we won't get all the talent if people believe we have plenty already. Legion Baseball is a great experience, don't miss it.

See you on May 24th...

PS. We may have a special appearance by 93Bulldog in his full catching gear...

Good points G.W. ... You just can't help not to get excited (as a fan) with all the possibilities out their this year ... That's what fans do; over hype matters, over analyze, complain too much what things don't go right and cheer too loud when they do ... lol

You have to remember too ... it wasn't but just a few years ago that me and highandtight were on here fighting tooth & nail over the American Legion team and the Connie Mack squad they tried to develope in this area ... It definitely pleases me now to know most of the talent in Athens County plays for Post 21 - so when I get a little hyped up about an upcoming summer season - just tell me to take a chill pill and remind me to let things play out before I start spouting off at the mouth.

Post 21 is loaded, with the talent they have returning on the field, at the plate and on the mound. They are easily the favorites to win the 8th district in 2010.
Brent and Larry do a great job and this year they are like jockeys riding Secretariat.
The teams 'up north' had better have an eye on the 'beast from the southeast', the championship is in the mail!

Oh how I wish that were true ... BUT ... history will tell us that Lancaster & Pickerington are always the favorite until Athens proves it can beat em ... Does Athens have a good team returning? Sure. But as long as Lancaster pulls kids from a Division I High School like Lancaster, and then adds pieces from the likes of Fisher Catholic, Berne Union and the other surrounding small schools - they will be very tough to beat.

No question about it, their coached well and draw and abundance of talent. Lancaster is always a force, but I think 1-18 that P21 is still the team to beat.
Just depends who plays well on a given day, Pickerington lost a lot and it will be interesting to see if they can scrape a few players from the two Pickerington schools that decide not to play travel ball.

Drago needs to get back to the barn and clean up after the McLintock horses if you know what I mean... Pickerington is the champion until someone de-thrones them and how they do it with just the kids from 2 tiny Pickerington schools is amazing. They are so fortunate to have a quality coach like Chris that gives so much time to the program rather than spending time on his yacht on the Licking River...

McLintock .. Lucky for Post 21 and its Coach - Those high-rollers up around the Lancaster-Dixon line (as Pfloyd would say) are too educated and too busy with their important lives to ever think about reading SEOPS ... lol ... Only on a Southeastern Ohio chat forum will you see a member telling another they need to 'get-back-down-to-the-barn' and clean up after the horses. All the pre-season hype about Post 21 - being thown out their by a few knuckleheads on here (including me) - will probably only reach the eyes and ears of those in-and-around the Post 21 program/team. The baseball forum carries only a fraction of readers and posters as football & hoops - and come summer time it really gets quiet ... Heck, ive had to strike up a conversation or two with myself during Legion season ... lol ...

Long story short - take it easy on ol' Drago - maybe he's just tryin to make it more of a challenge for the head coach of P-21.

GW, you're awfully kind to me.
At least you call it confusion, the nurse and doctor that just left my corner room here at the Licking River Retirement Center called it dementia. The meds they give me seem to help but I just stare out the window and can't wait for baseball season.
We did get a dish for the center last fall so now at least I get to watch ESPN. My second favorite thing is to watch Sportscenter on my morning meds, next to our weekly bingo and euchre night.
But it's friends like you that make life as comfortable to an old man as a fitted pair of dentures with a thin layer of polygrip in them.

I think in the near future, Drago and I will be sharing a room in the north wing, betting on the Little League World Series on ESPN Classic and talking about the good ol' days...
