Not really most around here are folding up like an old lawn chair.

Just got back from the game (and B-dubs), and I thought it was great game and went as I expected. It was close at half and then Athens offensive and defensive lines took over and wore down the smaller Alexander lines. I thought that both teams played with great energy and emotion.

I have done math and if Athens does go 10-0 there is a very slim chance that they could make the playoffs and if they do, Louisville or Logan will be waiting for them, ouch. However, if they lose to Nelsonville or get trip up by someone else and finish 9-1 or worse, they miss the playoffs. The same thing happen to Vinton County in 1991, the Vikings ran through the league and beating an 0-10 Athens team and finished sixth in points, then only the top four went to the playoffs. Ironically, an Athens Bulldogs team in 1990 with Bubba Litchenberg and Ryan Adams finished 10-0 and made the playoffs on the strength of beating an 8-2 Vinton County team. However, I am wishing for a Bulldog and all area teams a playoff berth.

The Edwards family supports Vinton County Vikings and their athletes, coaches, students, family and friends. Thank you Edwards family for all you do, it is much appreciated.

In closing, Athens did deserve to win. They have a good team. If the supporters would just help us with the early mornin milkings, I wouldn't have to get off of here for tonight. Maybe those up in Nelsonville can help out.

Hawkeye ... Ryan Adams was not on the 1990 team ... seems that mistake has been made a few times lately in the paper and on here ... Ryan was a senior on the 1989 team that was just as good if not better than the '90 team.

Bob Bailey was the running back in 1990, Jesse Wheatley was the FB.

1989 - Ryan Adams TB, Wheatley FB, Will Coon FB.

Hawkeye, not sure where you got your information but you are wrong on a couple of facts.

#1 Ryan Adams and Bubba never played together. Bubba came into Athens the year after Ryan graduated.

#2. Athens did not go 10-0 with either Ryan or Bubba.

#3 1990 Athens was tri-champions with Marietta and Jackson, and got beat by DeSales in the play-offs.

We were speaking of this at B-Dubs and I was sure that Ryan Adams never played Litchenberg in 1990, but one of my buddies said, "un-huh, I saw it in the newspaper." So I was right afterall, I remember Wheatley but I couldn't remember Bailey's name.

What was Athens final record in 1990? And who did they lose too? I was sure that they were 10-0.

I knew they lost to DeSales.

So despite being filled with useless Vinton County information, (which my wife absolutely hates), I was right on two of three useless facts about Athens football, I say not bad. I am sure I am making my wife proud.

As an Alexander alumni I can tell you all of the whining and excuse making is embarrassing.

Also, all of those calls into the radio show by the Alex fans were a disgrace to the effort of not only the Athens players but to the Alexander players as well.

Joe and Betty are awesome. The guys working the show just have to be stronger and stop those negative type of calls.

As far as the turnovers, I believe the Bulldog defense had a lot to do with them.

This is one of the best posts i have read on here ever. When you get beat give credit to the team that beat you and don't always blame it on the refs. Watched gridiron glory and one Interception Athens had they had 2 defensive lineman killing the QB for Alex. Usually turnovers are caused just like Alex got their Touchdown. Sounds like both teams should be proud of themselves. Sounds like they both played hard and Congrats for both communities supporting their schools. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way out from Tomcat Land.

Obviously, one of the two was the Vinton County Vikings, on September 21, 1990 in McArthur the Athens Bulldogs beat the Vikings 40-20.
