Gallipolis Midget League???
OK Folks!
Week 6: Gallia County has 3 teams playing varsity football we are quite possibly 1-17 won - lost.
Almost every kid in these 3 systems played in the Gallipolis Midget League program,i have seen first hand how poor the coaching there is and how big the emphasis is on winning not teaching the kids FOOTBALL. Well look at our Varsity teams proof is in the pudding.
I think it is time to change this awful system. I know River Valley took most of their kids to Meigs and they are playing as a team and doing well there. What i hear the fundamentals are lacking on all 3 teams i know where this starts.

This league is a joke. I hope coach eddy can change it. I heard there was going to be a new team started but don't know what happen. Anyway the dads who are wannabe coaches need some teaching by the varsity staffs.

I would hope that all of the "expert" coaches here on SEOPS would get in touch with the MFL and volunteer there time to help improve this "awful" system. You cats are just too much.

well you opened this can so here goes....I was a head coach in this program for 15 straight yrs.. had one 0-5 season the res 3-2 or better and yes a few #1... in that 15 yr. run just off of my team averaged 8 players every year moving up to the next level....currently their are 11 players all starters on the gahs team and they know how to play the game.....the current 7th grade coach had as much or more talent under his coaching staff....Now as for you people that set around doing nothing every weekend heres what i did for 15 yrs...starting the week after the fair we were on the practice field 4 days a week, the starting sept.24 every weekend we are on the field sat. and sun. and for the record in the past 15 yrs. not one of you wanna be coaches ever came around to help coach or did bash us on preps or anywhere else because the devils were in the playoffs Now that their 0-6 and you dont want to bash Eddy and his new system you think out loud open mouth and insert big fat foot.........By the way in those 15 yrs it not only cost me time away from my 2 kids ages new born and 18 months later new born again, but in cash terms right at $1000. per year...Oh by the way i belive the new admin.of this program is looking for coaches RIGHT NOW.............apply at the field

Re: Gallipolis Midget League???
thanks for your deicated time blacksheep evidently you made a difference lasting 15 years.
those supplemental contracts are mainly for employees in the system. there are people out here that are just as enthusiastic about football. take the supplement away and see how many volunteers you have. that is a program and a symbol of excellence.
coach eddy has been to one mfl practice that i know of so i presume he is makng his presence known.

Re: Gallipolis Midget League???
Fundamentals improved drastically this year at GAHS. From being around the MFL alot I know that some of the kids left 6trh grade with better fundamentals than what I saw out of them in hs last season so the problem seems to be somewhere between MFL and HS. I also know from talking to the hs players of all 3 systems where the troubles are. Mainly at GAHS it WAS lack of reps on fundamental preperation in blocking, tackling, and other basic techniques. This year things changed but the system is going to have to build itself back up starting with the new staff and the major improvements they made with the fundamental skills of these young players. Not to mention determining playing time objectively rather than politically. This team with last year's schedule wins 7-8 games. This year the deck was stacked and they still competed and were a whole lot more fun to watch, painful mistakes hurt the end result but were still competitive and teams knew they had been in a game after playing GAHS. RV has a very young team and alot more of the kids played in the Meigs youth league than the MFL. South Gallia is also very young and lacks the speed they have had in past years at the skill spots.
Some teams in the MFL are parent coached and change from year to year, other teams have continuity and are much more consistant with winning. No winning is not everything but it is no coincidence that the teams that teach fundamentals the best are consistantly at the top of the league, fundamentals win at every level of play. The team I have been around teaches blocking, tackling, and technique and coincidentally we contend most years.
As for the new administration. Horible at best, changes have been made to the rules without seeking guidance from people affiliated with the league for many years and they have watered down the quality of play. Actually just watered down the fundamental teaching required to improve. Now to make things easier on the officials, we just line LBs up too far off the ball and turn them loose which is not football and only helps teams focused solely on winning rather than the prev 30 years of making them read and react in turn producing smarter football players and more fundamentally sound players. Other changes have taken place but the bottom line is changes made with deniable good intentions were made with no experience and no forethought and have hurt the best youth league in the area. Also, with the exception of one official, the officiating crews are only trying to get the game over with so they can go home and don't try to enforce the rules of the league; LBs blitzing, kids over-weight playing out of position, and so-on.
