Zane Trace v. Wheelersburg

Post by preps_fan1980 »

Is this really a game worth playing? It's a make up that means absolutely nothing to either team. It seems to me that you are risking injury only a week ahead of the tournament. What are your thoughts?

You risk injury every game, and every game should be played.
Look at it from this angle, would you agree that playing top notch competition right before the tourney gets you ready for the tourney. couldn't coming into tourney on a weak schedule run you the risk of being comlacent when you enter the tourney and risk getting you knocked out early.
i like making sure you get peak level tests when you should be peaking (tourney time). we have to hope that the players, officials, and coaches do their jobs and protect the players and teams as they enter the tournament.

I agree with xb1srw2's statements.
This could be a good pre-tournament match for 'Burg.

i typed a big reply earlier and then accidentally hit cancel
basically what i said was...i agree with playing top-notch stiffer competition. i also agree that injury can happen anytime, but an injury early in the season has time to heal as oppossed to an injury right before the tournament. as far as complacency goes...that appears to be a problem for this burg team, amongst other things.

If complacency is an issue with Burg (which is almost surprising since I have never known a complacent Burg team in my 20 years of getting thumped by them), then I say the game has not only value but also serves a purpose to make sure they are running hard when the gates open to the tourney.

Granted, early season injury have time to heal. Freak injuries just happen whenever they happen. Injuries due to another person's reckless abandonment - I don't know if one could justify they are more common late in the year due to tired legs, or if they are less likley due to being careful for tourneys.....that's a hard one.

i think maybe it's a case of a few apples spoiling the bunch in my opinion...maybe complacency was the wrong word to classify that team. i don't know.

good play is playing good competition. you get better by playing good teams. if you want to be a good fighter do you spend your time beating up your younger brother? always want to play good teams.

This is a good game that will get Burg on track for the tourneys. These games are what both teams need to know what to expect in the upcoming games.

This is an exceptional idea for the Burg team since they have been played a bit on the bad side and need a good game to see how tough competition can be when tourneys come around.

magic man 1 against 5 is not a fair fight. even it up and at least give him tights and a cape and a mask, and he could become known as the "Lone Striker".

i hope you're right magic man...go burg!

rxburgfan, couldn't agree more. burg has the talent, skill, and speed to run 2 up front and an attacking mid trailing...or even a straight 4-3-3. that'd give you better odds against a flat 4 than 1 up front.

watch the attack of minford , webster, zane trace etc. it is organized. it starts at the back and moves forward. the offense is not left to chance. the key is possession. if you possess the ball from back to front and front to back you are hard to beat. that is the "one" of the challenges faced by teams in this area advancing far in the tourney.

I think the key is more than possession, it is being direct and dangerous with the possession rather than possessing for the sake of it (not to imply that is what you are saying, btw)
Interesting article in Soccer America this month talking with Wilmer Cabrera (U-17 residency program head).
He made the sattement that where the US is weakest is in attacking. Too much emphasis on posession without real purpose. It creates robots rather than players. Upon reflection, I think I am guilty of that in coaching too. It's true that the other team can't do anything if they can't get the ball. However, without purpose, you only guarantee a nil-nil tie with possession

I think with the Webster loss to Zane Trace it would be a good confidence builder for the burg if they can pull off a win. It will also go a long way for them to measure themselves against the higher level of competition they will see in the tourney, if they get past SW.

Agreed, if Burg can win it could boost their confidence tremendously. Good luck on Saturday but first Eastern on thursday

ZT has a good defense this year, and a solid team as a whole. as for lewis tearing up their back line, that isn't goin to happen. he may get one goal at the most, but thats it. their whole back line is much faster than burgs team and will eat them alive. i say ZT 5-2.

Are you serious? dillian is goin to have a hat trick, zt breaks down so easy.

Hope Burg can pull this one off but if I were betting on the outcome I would have to put my money on zt. They will likely control the midfield and give the forwards more opportunities to score. The hat trick is far more likely to come from Wyatt Smith from zt. He is a team player which makes him unpredictable ( cover him tight and he will pass to the open man for the assist, play him man to man and someone is going to get burned. If Burg will challenge for all balls in the midfield they may have a shot, Brooks will need to have one of his best games.
