Re: how bad do you think the illegal blow from Ray Lewis was ?
The NFL has been trying to prevent what some of the former players who have so many lastings effects from injuries. They have tried to improve the helmets to prevent concussions. The shot that Lewis gave could have had lasting effects. He could have taken Chad down hard without going to the head.
The NFL players are over paid but what does that money do you if you can not walk or every second of the day you are in pain. Some of the rules to protect the QB go to far but a hit to the head like what Lewis did should be dealt with.
Years ago players were taught to led with the head and now they are not and the game still goes on. Some helmet to helmet hits can not be prevented with the speed of plays but this hit could have.

Are you one of those that cling to the notion of the Baltimore Ravens are still the real Cleveland Browns?

Yea no kiddin. The thing that really pisses me off is the fact that these whining, pampered athletes ar being paid RIDICULOUS amounts of money, knowing it is a rough contact sport, and when they go to do 'their job' they whine and get all pissy when theybtake a big hit, its part of the job description, And now they try to baby them?? Give me 5 million dollars a year and I will run across the middle of the field butt naked with Ray Lewis and the rest of the Raven D waiting for me with baseball bats
Let me know when it happens, Ill take pictures.

Nothing personal broncofan, because I could have quoted any of the other three before you. But the attitude that "they make millions, so let it go" is just wrong. Why? You don't put a value on a man's life because he makes more money than you. That is such shallow thnking, but that is what big money as brought to sports. What price do you think a man can be paid that is enough to die for? I make pretty good money for what I do, but I am sure to a bagger at Krogers if I got electrocuted, he would think, "serves him right".
Bottom line, if you're going to invest that much money in a player, as a league, you better set up rules to protect him from the thugs how can't cover him, so their only option is to hurt him. Remember, these guys get guaranteed contracts, so even if they get hurt they get paid.

What I think is crazy, is when, say a reciever, who makes 3 mill a year, goes out and scores 12 td's for the season. The next thing you know is the same reciever wants more money because he scored 12 td's. That' what he was paid 3 mill to do wasn't it?

Re: how bad do you think the illegal blow from Ray Lewis was ?
--------------------
Despite his accomplishments on the field, Lewis' public image was tarnished following a Super Bowl party on January 31, 2000. Following the party, a fight broke out between him and rapper Chino Nino's entourage, in which Jacinth Baker, 21, and Richard Lollar, 24, died from stab wounds. Lewis and two companions, Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting, were brought to an Atlanta police station for questioning. Eleven days later, along with Oakley and Sweeting, Lewis was indicted for murder and aggravated assault.
During the trial, several witnesses whose testimony would supposedly prove Lewis’ guilt had altered their stories initially given to investigators.[citation needed] Their testimonies were supposed to show that Ray Lewis hit, kicked or stabbed someone, and that he even admitted as much afterwards.
Lewis's attorney arranged with prosecutors to dismiss the murder charges if Lewis pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice[19] in exchange for him testifying against Oakley and Sweeting. Lewis accepted the plea bargain and was sentenced to one year of probation. He was not suspended by the NFL but was fined US$250,000, a league record at the time.
Oakley and Sweeting were acquitted of the charges in June 2000. No other suspects have ever been arrested for the crime.
The following year, Lewis was named Super Bowl XXXV MVP. However, due to the controversy, he did not get the endorsements or the Disney World trip offered to recent MVP recipients. The signature phrase "I'm going to Disney World!" was given instead by quarterback Trent Dilfer.
On April 29, 2004, Lewis reached a settlement with four-year-old India Lollar, born months after the death of her father Richard, preempting a scheduled civil proceeding. [20] Lewis also reached an undisclosed settlement with Baker's family.
MONEY TALKS !!!!! He probably should be in prison to start with....

Re: how bad do you think the illegal blow from Ray Lewis was ?
I was going to ask if Lewis got fined-- my suggestion was 50K. Glad he took a fine on this , this way when he does it again there is a previous rap sheet to see. Like looking at a criminal kinda.
I guess the league will wait til another player gets paralyzed before they go the suspension route. Would the fine have been different if Chad never played again , or been in a wheelchair with no use of his legs ? Why wait til the player get severely injured before cracking down ?
The rules on QB's have gotten crazy , but crown of helmet blows delivered to a player above the shoulder pads should draw the stiffest of penalities --a 1 game suspension should have been given. Without pay thats more like 200-400k . MD

Re: how bad do you think the illegal blow from Ray Lewis was ?
The amount of the fine for that play was not disclosed. However, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that Lewis was fined a total of $25,000 for the hit on Ochocinco, as well as another play during which Lewis unnecessarily kicked an opponent.
Re: how bad do you think the illegal blow from Ray Lewis was ?
He not only cheaps shots someone with his helmet he also kicks someone. What a nice role model. He has been built up over the last few years as one of the best guys in the NFL. He plays like a thug and his dance before the game to fire himself. Seems like that might just be to put the spotlight on him.
Lewis just doesn't seem to care about what he did so just like what MD said that small amount of a fine means nothing to him. A suspension and losing a a game check would be so much more. For the Commissioner to take such a hard stance on others for off the field problems but to let Lewis get off easy not a good message.

I don't really think this was enough. Should have fined him more in my opinion.
