I took a statistics class in college, and you know the one thing my professor said almost everyday. Variation is everywhere. The same is true for these percentage based opinion things. Almost everyone in the top 8 right now "controls their own destiny". If the teams continue to win they are in, if they lose, they are out. Gotta love high school football late in the season with some many local teams still fighting it out in week 8, it's nice to see that for a change.

Rank W-L ID # City School Average
1 6-1 Baltimore Liberty Union 11.5929
2 5-2 Minford 11.0000
3 6-1 Woodsfield Monroe Central 10.9120
4 7-0 Fredericktown 10.6429
5 6-1 Caldwell 10.2143
6 7-0 Oak Hill 10.1786
7 6-1 Coal Grove Dawson-Bryant 10.0357
8 6-1 Nelsonville-York 8.9214
9 5-2 Wheelersburg 8.6929
10 7-0 West Lafayette Ridgewood 8.4786
11 5-2 Barnesville 7.8143
12 6-1 Lucasville Valley 7.0857

I think both Coal Grove and Nelsonville are in trouble. I honestly don't see NY beating either Athens or Ironton and 0-7 Vinton County will not get them very many points so they will drop out. Coal Grove has both Rock Hill and River Valley with 1 win each and Fairland at 5-2 and I don't know if that's enough to keep them in.

Ridgewood will have to beat undefeated Malvern since they keep winning but still keep dropping every week and are 7-0 but in 10th place.

If Valley can win out, and that's a very big IF, they will make it in. I honestly don't see them beating the Burg, West, and Minford though.

Caldwell also has a tough three games remaining with Fort Frye (5-2), Bishop Rosecrans (6-1), Shenandoah (5-2) and the first two are on the road.

If Wheelersburg wins out they will get in, but probably not a home game unless a few in front of lose in the next three weeks.

I think Oak Hill has enough points left in their last three games to make it, but they have to beat Symmes Valley or they are out.

Liberty Union, Minford, Monroe Central, and Fredricktown are probably a lock if they win out, though LU has a tough game with West Jeff in week 10.

Nothing will be decided in this region until the last play of the last weeks games. Lot of different scenarios can still play out.

NY has to win at least one of those two big games against Athens and Ironton. Win one of those and they are probably in.

CG has to get by Fairland in week 10 who will be fighting for a playoff spot of there own. That will an all out war.

Should be an interesting and exciting next 3 weeks

Here's what I've been able to nail down so far in terms of big moves in R19 after tonight.

Losing tonight and probably dropping off the radar:

Barnesville
Shenandoah (upset by 0-6 River)
Crooksville
Caldwell (slight upset, losing to Fort Frye)
Adena

Big wins and stepping up:

Nelsonville York - Big win over DII Athens, who now falls to 7-1. Lots of 2nd level points for the Buckeyes.

Big win, but probably won't help much:

Fort Frye

Pretty much everyone else won. I believe that Ridgewood plays tomorrow night. Could not find a score for Fredericktown yet.

Still alot to be sorted out, but tonight should help weed out some of the pretenders from the contenders.......

SD out!

Didn't buy Caldwell for a second and I don't buy Ridgeweed, either.

I found the Fredericktown final, they beat Utica 27-12. Fuzzhead, I was not a Caldwell believer either. These things have a way of working themselves out....... ;-)

I'm with you on Caldwell, but I can't make my mind up on Ridgewood. I don't think they are going to do much more than one and done if they get in, but I'm with you that I'm not sold that they are going to beat Malvern in order to get in in the first place.

I think the biggest win of the week in this region came courtesy of Nelsonville-York over Athens. I honestly didn't think they would win tonight and the win definitely shakes up what I thought was going to happen in this region. Man, I love this time of year!!!! 8)

I was glad to see it work out like this; NY was more deserving to make the playoffs than Caldwell, even if they would have lost to Athens, IMO.
If Valley loses again, they're done. That first half of the schedule will come back to bite them on the butt. They are a darn good team though.
If TCC and Malvern beat Ridgewood, Coal Grove could possibly afford to lose to Fairland in week 10 and still get in.

Valley might move into the top 8. Oak hill will hold on ay 6 probably because sv has a decent record. I'd say Minford stays at 2. CG and burg will probably both move up too. It's going to be an interesting two weeks in Region 19.

I'd say Liberty-Union, Fredericktown, Monroe-Central, and Minford will be the top 4 seeds.

NY has played 3 of those 4 schools in the past, only Fredericktown would be a brand new opponent for the Buckeyes.

Minford could end up playing valley two weeks in a row. I bet that doesn't happen very often anywhere in the state.

Steely, Ridgewood at Tuscarawas Central Catholic is a Sat game.

Still some key games left in the region, like everyone has said.

Liberty Union v West Jeff in week 10 should be good.

Valley has a killer schedule--it they win out, they deserve to get in.

Nelsonville York at Ironton will tell a lot next week.

I think Monroe Central has enough to advance far this year.

If they beat Valley in week 10, Valley will not see week 11. Can't see Valley beating Burg next week. I figured the Indians would beat West by at least two scores.

I wouldn't expect Valley to move up much. In fact, assuming Ridgewood wins tomorrow night, which I believe they will, Valley should end up 11th next week...only moving up one spot. They will not trail Caldwell by much for the 10th spot, but they will trail them none the less.

Valley has to win their last two if they want to get in. I don't see that happening.

Given the fact that Valley hasn't beaten Wheelersburg since 1964, they've certainly got to be considered an underdog next week.

I'd like to see Valley win both games. I'm sold on them. I think they're a legitimate playoff-worthy team. I know they have the talent to beat either team.
