Not to get in the middle of the discussion between the 2 of you, but Coal Grove never has really been a super fast team to begin with and as the score reflected, it obviously didn't matter if we were slow. And as it stands right now, we've only lost 1 game so however it is we are, it works!

Now, I want to vent about our team and sorry if it offends anyone. I am appauld by how our Senior football members treat others. I have been to all of the games and am really offended and amazed at how some of our so called "main players" talk to and even heckle their own marching band members and their teachers and the coaches say nor do NOTHING!! Yes, I know that the band and football team have always had their moments but when the band is marching off the field, the CAPTAIN does not need to yell derogatory remarks to them. If you don't like them then ignore them. This also happened at Greenup and when a teacher told them to watch their language, it was a blatant "F-You" with the coaches standing right next to them. Some of these boys need to be jerked off the field and they are the most rude and ill-manered kids that I have ever seen and all that I can say to them....at least the band knows they are going to State. Can't say the same for the team. And before anyone jumps down my throat, all of these kids work hard. The band, football team, cheerleaders..all of them. I don't hear the cheerleaders yelling that the football team sucks if they miss a tackle nor do I hear the band members booing the team when they run onto the field. Instead, the band plays the school song, the cheerleaders cheer them on and the football team thinks that the world owes them something and that they can stand and belittle others because they think they are better than they are. Yes, I'm ticked and I think the coaches need to grow a pair and demand respect from these boys and not be scared that they are going to make them mad.

It's been that way as long as I've been around.
Everything you just mentioned is the main thing that keeps Coal Grove from being a Wheelersburg or a Minford or an Ironton.

Good post.

I heard this exchange myself, and if anyone wants the player in questions name, I will gladly pm his name to you. I do believe our coaches need to man up to these boys and teach them to have respect for everyone, whats bad is the player is a senior and I believe he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the stadium next week, even if it costs us the game, I don't care, if I was the teacher I would push for a good week at alternitive school and no football for the whole week which includes the game. Just my opinion and I don't really care what anyone else thinks about it.

I'd have to agree 2trap. This happened right in front of me. Players dipping snuff and cussing right in front of the coaches. Wonder what that player would have done if a band member walked over and smacked him in the mouth?

8-0 end of the 1st Qtr

Yea Jerk

totally not impressed with Coal Grove Big & SLOW! Very undisciplined! Bet they had 8 personal foul penalties, one 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Kids talking back to the refs, some things never change. Late hits after the whistle had blown on a false start they hit RV QB back in the pocket, DIRTY!
CGshould be ashamed!

That's not a lack of discipline, that is a game plan. Beat the tar out of a JV quarterback making his first start, possibly remove him, instill fear, and then dominate. Class act, Coal Grove, from top to bottom, class act.

Wildthing: your a joke and a suck up.
dude! nothing classy about beating on kids after the whistle blows,(it was at least 2 seconds after the whistle had blown that the de hit the rv qb from the blind side) the kid should have been ejected.

why did coal grove need a psychological advantage against river valley?
i was at that game as well and was appalled by the unsportsmanlike conduct fouls.
when the kid roughed the punter clearly he yelled "that's bull crap" so loud that everyone in the top of the stands could hear it.

The discipline starts at home, the parents should govern their own kids and stop the rude acts, but it should not be condoned by the coaches.

The thing i was most proud of was that the kids from RV were so classy the whole game, played hard and never once talked back to the CG players or the officials. RV parents should be proud.

Coal Grove that is how kids should act, take lessons. Coal Grove is def not the classiest bunch anyone will play never have been. I remember in the 70's Gallia Academy playing them, same thing.

From what has been said about some of the Coal Grove players actions I hope those players read this post also the coaches. This goes along with the topic last week "What is the worst thing about athletics".

If this does happen in front of the coaches the coaches need to be responsible. I know many coaches who would have ripped those players right there and they would have said FU to a teacher they would not be wearing a uniform anymore. Respect should be there from all students at any school event.

Coal Grove may have won this game but the actions of a few leaders on this team makes them look very bad. Hope these actions do not happen again at Coal Grove but they go right along with the actions of the school board this last week giving the superintendent a new contract before the elections. Respect and honesty means more to some than winning without it.

It all starts with the coaches, they are the ones responsible for the kids on the field.

That is where your WRONG! The parents are responsible for the actions of their children no matter where they are. I can tell you if my child acts like that i don't care where they are at i will take care of it. The coaches are sent children to coach as football players not to teach them manners. It sure makes the coaches job easier if they are good kids when they get to him!

Very good post.

I commented last year about the same issue after Coal Grove came down to Minford. I had the pleasure of being on the Coal Grove sideline for a while during the second half and some of the things I heard and saw was astonishing.
Players backtalked the coaches. Players cursed at the refs. After a really bad cheap shot put on a Minford player late in the game, not much was said to the player when he came to the sidelines. Players making a very funny noise and after a while I caught on. They were making fun of coach Jr. And that was just about all of the players doing it.

From what I understood one of the better Coal Grove players quit the following week last year and then came back.

I can tell you this, and I am NOT bashing coaches.....that CG coaching staff gets no respect because they dont demand any.

When Minford played CG this year I talked to a couple of the players from CG after the game as I was walking through the parking lot to my car.......my wife is a Coal Grovian and I know alot of the kids there....I told several CG players that I knew "good game" and one of the better players skill wise said to me "I havent cared all year, why start now".

The CG program has all the potential in the world. I think the problem is the coaching caters to the players now and the last I checked the coaches are still the adults and the ones that should be making the decisions.

And some people say it is not the coaches responsibility to teach a player manners. I agree....but someone has to. Either you change the kids behavior or you put up with it. And I can tell you that I never had a coach that would "put up with it" all the way through college.
