What West must do is keep Lang in the pocket, he had a good game with his feet out there 2 years ago. If we can do that, I think we can slow them down. Whether they normally throw or not, they'll try to sneak their tall receivers out and pick on our smaller DB's. I would just assume load the box and go down swinging. If they complete them, they complete them.

If the West line can pick up the stunts, I think we'll move the ball.

Calling for 50% chance of rain. Alot of rain could have a big effect on the game. Wet ball especially, turnovers may decide this game.

Lets go West

One thing that I will say about both of these teams, is that they both came out and really hit, when they played the Falcons. This will be a hard hitting game, and I think they will cause a few turnovers. Both teams will know they were in a game when this one is over. Good Luck to Both!!! And be ready it will get crazy, about 10 seconds after kick-off!!!!!!

Two years ago it was 14-7 game goin into the half...it was very competitive...they scored another on a tunnel screen...and it was 21-7 goin into the 4th...then they decided to but Lang in the game and run midline, and then they started to pull away...I agree with you, put our defensive backfield isn't all that small, they'll see on friday...West needs some big runs from Pendleton and Murphy, some momentum shifter's...they just need to play fundamental football

Perfect example of a fan that gets a red a$$ when someone talks about the Burg. Wait didn't VASJ pass on the Burg? was it 223 or 224 yds? Portsmouth even passed for 127 on the Burg! Rock Hill 119 yds. Waverly 131. Valley 89! Yeah those games were won convincingly bu Burg but if they blowouts could pass couldn't a legit team? Did we forget Fredericktown's 199 yds? maybe greenup county 200 yds? as you can see. you can go back and find games in which Burg was successful in stopping the pass, but so can I. Why didnt they make it in 2006? oh thats right SP threw all over them, and so did waverly. I think Ironton even had their share that year! 2005-2008 no longer than the 2nd round. except 2005 against AC.

If you're going to make a deep run you have to have a Passing attack consistently!!!
So maybe there is a passing game there this year, but how would anyone know?
Burg has thrown for a whoppin 370+ yards this year!! Last season it was 980+!!! 2007 was 1700 yrds.

where is the passing this year?

PASS THE BALL!!
STOP THE PASS!!

Passing DEF is not so good!
Passing OFF is not so good, not because of Lang, I'm not putting blame on anyone.
No I don't think Lang is the best option but that isn't my call.
All i'm saying is you can't be a deep playoff threat till you have a pass/run attack and stop the pass!

to the pirate faithfull- we need to pick it up even a little more than last week which was good as far as cheering for the boys- we need to make some serious noise. if you sit in the middle get up from your bottoms more- and cheer for the boys or if not maybe give serious consideration to giving up ur season tickets to someone that will- the boys feed off us when we get loud! :122249 Go BURG

West too young on both sides of the ball to get the Burg this year. Burg will have multiple option attacks that will have the siders reeling on defense. Minford, Valley tried loading the box and Burg still got their yards. West is not as athletic as those two so I think burg with that oline will get on them early and often..

As for Burgs oline not staying on blocks, the burg runners run hard this year and the line just needs a few seconds to stay on then get off to get a LB or safety.

Burgs D is the gamechanger this week. If they dont stay put to those counters from wingmen and pulling guards of West, they may get befuddled early. But I look for them to adjust like Minford did and shut west down. Too athletic on D to let Pendleton run wild.

Burg group needs to maintain their discipline this week!

I heard a rumor that one of these teams will be running some wildcat tomorrow night. Any one else know about this?

What teams around here, if any CAN defend the pass. Not to many because they don't see it that much. Burg was a little better when Bendolph was out there because he normally covered the other teams best receiver.

Burg has never been good at defending the pass and I think they have held there own over the years. Burg won everyone of those games except one (and they should have won that one) so what does it matter if a team throws for 100 yards or 300 yards as long as you get the "W". Someone brought up that if it hadn't been for the two pick 6's and the KO return for a TD the St. Joe's game would have been 24-21, well IMO there pass defense rose up, picked off three passes and took two of them back to the house for scores. Sounds like pretty good pass defense to me.

Burg can throw the ball, just don't know why they don't. I think first thing I would do is have lang take off those gloves. Have never seen a QB wear gloves and you can't tell me it doesn't effect the way he throws the ball. Stegman has been behind the defense alot this year and they haven't been able to connect with him. If they can get that pass play down, that makes them that much more dangerous.

IMO, Burg would be dangerous running the wildcat because the direct snap would more than likely be going to Schank, who was the starting QB last year. Gives them alot of options out of an alignment like that. He can run the ball, pull up for a pass or run the option with eiter Lang or Craigmiles. Man, would that be hard to defend.

I agree , it would be interesting. I can not confirm or deny , as I said I heard a rumor. I won't say which school the rumor is about because if it is true I want it to be fair to both teams. I don't have a dog in the fight but I could see both teams running it effectively to be honest.

I agree and have said for a long time that Wheelersburg's pass defense wasn't the best but VASJ was strictly a passing team and they were VERY good at it. Far better than any local team is at passing.
And, weren't most of those yards by the other teams... Portsmouth, Rock Hill, etc...... gained in the second half against the 2nd and 3rd stringers ?

Big Stick I also heard and I know one of them is practicing the Wildcat offense. But what I have been told it is West. We know who is getting the direct snap! The area leading Rusher and we all know who that is! If this is true West had came up with a great idea and I would say with out a doubt Pendleton will run wild against the Burg.
Go West Sider smash the Burg.

Jungle Cat, I will not let the " cat " out of the bag. But I must admit , that I know a player on one of these teams and they are the one telling me about this. I have not seen it for myself , so I will treat it as a rumor. The only thing I will say is if this works , the coach will earn some respect for his decision.

There are ways to stop it, when you just have one option. You just send the house at him everythime he touches it. The chances of him pulling up and throwing it are probably slim.

Will be interesting if they try it.

I cant wait until Friday night, this is going to be a fun game to watch.
I am sure if they start bring the house a simple screen will turn into a big play, of a 1/2 pass could be hugh.

Jungle Cat,

It will be a good game to watch , just to see the wildcat. A draw play up the gut would be a nice play against " sending the house "

I guess when you are playing your rival , you pull out all of the stops. I will see what happened at practice today later on.

I can tell you that last night should have been defense night , but most of it was spent on the wildcat. At least that is what I was told.

Hey I may see you tonight, I will be watching practice if i can get off work this evening early. :122245 If this wildcat work it will be coaching marvel. I really thing the wildcat is perfect for the big back we have. The lead blocking should be perfect as well. Instead of off tackle all the time it is any hole that opens pound into it. it might jsut be the ticket for a upset victory.
