NEVER evaluate a team by watching previews!!
I have to agree.. Nobody wants to show what they really got. Most of the coach's just sat on their hands and let their kids play.

Re: SOC previews
NB heat--As I said on the other thread...the kids played and the coaches watched. They wanted thier kids to play hard and fundamentally sound but you are wrong if you think these previews even carry the same weight as a scrimmage. A least at a scrimmage the coaches are using their key players and coaching. Sure everyone wants to walk away with a W everytime you are on the court but at what price? why would you give the whole league real scouting material? Exactly...you wouldn't. Sure you can scout players abilities but you cannot scout what a team runs offensively(for sure) or defensively. These are nothing more than a player showcase for people and to make $$$$$.

CLAY
MUCH IMPROVED from last year's team. Good height inside, big guys really crash the boards well. With Burchett & Valentine being solid outside threats and good penetrators, it should make for some good inside-out playing. Look for the Panthers to finish at the top of the SOC 1 this year.
Me likey.

Re: SOC previews
Scouting is done for the pre-season before the previews. If you don't think that it doesn't happen at scrimmages, just ask the guy in the Florida outfit at the West, West Union and Clay Jr. high scrimmage a few weeks back. He wasn't alone, but he was the most obvious, the others at least tried to hide their notes. The previews are a open house for players to play, not so much teams to work on anything special. But you show me a player who doesn't go all out, and I will show you a player making an excuse for losing.

Re: SOC previews
If a player doesn't play to win then they don't belong on the floor. The only thing I referred to was that coaches don't do much at previews on purpose. So you can see the players play but it's hard to judge how a team will do. As far as coaches scouting at scrimmages----that is a big no no. You just don't do that. I know of A.D.s being informed about that sort of thing and I sure would make the call myself if someone came into one of my scrimmages and that's after I kicked them out.
