I think Ridgewood now wins the Region rather easily....

The Freddies coach was interviewed on 610am in Columbus after the game and he gave kudos to Wheelersburg but was sure glad that the time ran out.

The conservative play calling caught up with the Burg. I thought they were going to bury the Freddies the second half. I dont know why Burg didnt try to spread the field out to use their speed. They just kept running it up the gut from the wishbone.

I think Burg out coached theirselves, plain and simple...the counter worked very well in the first half, but the Freddies adjusted and stopped...If you would look at the safeties and corners, they weren't even reading pass, they had all of their body weight shifted forward, getting ready to get downhill...burg could of hit a nice bootleg over the middle...they needed to keep trying to win instead of trying not to lose...

Burg finally got it together on the last drive, and had the chance, but I disagree with calling a counter, I understand it was successful all game, but give Lang the ball give him 2 shots at a sneak behind another senior Frowine, and if that fails take your last timeout and kick a field goal, but Im not the head coach, and I understand the pressure of that situation, a lot of people (probably including myself), would over think the situation too, and you have to remember this is only Woodward's second year as a head he'll learn from his mistakes, because he is a good coach...congrats to Burg though, thats just life theres a small margin of error, and mistakes happen to everyone, they did well considering the injuries, they fought tooth and nail...but congrats on a successful career...I believe they had 3 playoff wins, and career record of 33-13...thats very good...theres just something in the water over there in Burg, they keep breeding winners...but the better watch out for them siders' next year :122249

The coach would have been OK if he just hadn't called that fumble play in the end zone in the 1st half that resulted in the safety for Fredericktown (the winning 2 points.)
But it really didn't make any difference because he called another fumble play with 1st down on the 6 inch line and 30 seconds to play in the game and the Freddies recovered and won the game anyway.
Other than that, he had the team in a position to win the game.... but I'd fire him for those calls.

The coach and the boys had a heck of a game and season and played their hearts out. Congratulations to the Pirates..... ALL of them.

Yeah, I also heard the announcers saying it was a good thing Burg didn't get into the end zone the play before so they could run more clock. That's when I opened my mouth and said "yeah, until they fumble on the next play." I was just expecting the scenario to occur on a qb sneak, not any other play. But I won't blame the coaching...he can't hold onto the ball for the kids. Either way, great season for the Burg...just a terrible way for it to end.*

I really wish that the Burg had a time out left to give themselves another chance/play at the end of the game after the fumble. I thought they may have burned some too early.

Congrats to the players on a good season. I hate that Shankweiler has to wait a whole year till he gets back on the field again after this game. He's the best player in the area and I hope he keeps his head up.

All i can say, i was right behind #9 for FT who was standing over the Foose at the 2 foot line. Easy sneak. What ever happened to reading that and just tapping the centers butt and going straight ahead????? :122246

Great job by Burg. Loved the year. See you next. Out!

In my 38 years of watching Wheelersburg sports that has to be the most heart breaking, gut wrenching loss I have ever seen. To come into the game with your leading rusher with a bum left arm, then lose your second leading rusher to an apparent ham string injury on his first and only TD of the night but then have the backups preform solidy and give your team a 14-2 halftime lead, only to lose in the last few seconds of the game is really hard to swallow. The Freddies need to get down on their knees and thank the big guy after this win. They were beat, dead to rights. 1st and goal at the 6 inch line with less then 40 seconds in the game and only needing 2 points to win and then to fumble away the ball and lose the game. The stars just weren't aligned for the Pirates tonight.

Congrats to the boys on another great and exciting season.

I think Ridgewood has there way with the Freddies next week. If Conrad is all they say he is he will run amok on the Freddies defense. They had trouble stopping the Burgs backup runners and one with a lame arm. Their offense hit 2 big plays, both for scores, and other than that I wasn't that impressed. Even if the Burg would have have won they would been hard pressed next week with Shank and Craigmiles both injured.

Great season Pirates. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Brandon Schankweiler, do not let this get you down, son. You played your heart out and without you, Burg is not even playing this game. To the Seniors, thanks for the time and effort that yougave as Pirates. What you learned on that football will make you stronger young men in the future.

How many teams can lose 2-1,000 yard rushers and still have a chance to win in the last few seconds of the game. The Freddies coaches had to be licking their chops when they heard Schank wasn't at full strength and then Craigmiles blows his hammy in the first qtr, but Burg didn't back down. Scott Walker and Julian Silvey stepped it up in the first half and made some great plays.

Then came the second half and just like last year, tried to set on the lead and make it hold up. They made the defensive adjustments and Burg didn't counter.

The play call on the goalline was about the worst call I have ever seen. Why do you even take a chance of handing off the ball, when all you need is to run a couple of QB sneaks and if he doesn't gets in, you line up and you kick the FG. I'm still stunned at that call. Even if Schank walks in untouched, it is still a terrible call. When you go to hand off the ball, there is always the chance of a bad exchange. I don't think that was the case tonight. Looked like someone just got a hand on the ball or his arm and jarred it loose.

Tough loss Pirates, but like true Pirates, they will bounce back and be ready come August when Ironton comes to town. Burg returns almost the entire offensive line, plus Scahnk and some other nice skill players.

I would have liked to have seen this game played with the Burg at full strength. Would have been interesting. Craigmiles was running hard before he went out and I don't think they would have stopped him much.

Both teams traveled well and there was plenty of seating and parking. Honestly it was a big crowd but not really much bigger than Trimble vs NY. I will be curious to see how tomorrow's game goes. Tonight went off perfectly. As a matter of fact, the press box, teams and some fans said they had never been treated better. Hated to see the game end that way and I hope the gentleman that the squad was called for is okay.

I will say this, the crowd tonight soundwise was the loudest crowd I have ever herd at Boston Field. Both sides were awesome. There were about 3500 people there to answer your question.

He shouldn't have to read that. That should have been the play that was called. Very bad call. Why do you give the ball to the runner with the bad wing, plus run the play to the left and hand it to him under that arm.

There was alot of Burg people standing along the fence, so no there wasn't enough seats. Very nice facility though. Field was very nice. I don't think you will be able to hold the crowd for tomorrow's game.

Another thing, what's up with all the smoke from the grills? There was few times that it was very thick out there. Is it like that all the time?

The crowd at the Trimble games are 5 and six deep, there was nowhere near that tonight but you guys did come up from quite a bit further. The Wheelersburg fans that arrived around 4:00 were more than polite and were fine standing at the gate for an hour and a half and had no complaints about it. Though in hindsight, there was plenty of seating so I am sure they didn't really need to do this but I am also sure they got the seats they wanted. Tomorrow may be a different animal but remember, both of these games were turned down by Jackson for reasons unknown to me.

The smoke from the grill is not normally like that but for some reason it was really bad tonight. Believe me, no one had it worse than the people on the grill, as I was one of those for a while. My eyes were so bloodshot I am sure I would have been arrested if pulled over.

I figured so on the smoke. Food was great. Had a really nice set-up.

Would love to see Burg one day get a new stadium. Need someone to donate about 5million dollars. Any takers? Anyone?LOL

That wasn't a bad drive, Nelsonville York and the burg should try to put together a series in the future.

I was on the chains and yes he fumbled but a burg player did recover when a freddie took it from him when the refs pulled everybody from the "scrum". The Kimble kid is a great qb. The burg played the second half to not lose. What a great game!
