Nelsonville-York vs. Newark Catholic in 2010

Post by NYBuckeye96 »

I just heard that NY has picked up Newark Catholic as a Week 2 contest starting next season. NY will host Newark Catholic at Boston Field in 2010. This should be a really nice series!!

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

This is an excellent pickup for the Bucks. Does this mean Piketon did not get renewed? What does the rest of the non league schedule look like?

Just curious what do you think?

From the OHSAA website, these schools are open during the specified week.

Week 3-Gallia Academy(personally would love to see this happen), Shadyside(consistent playoff team)

Week 4-Fairfield Christian Academy(not sure about this one, I think better options will become availabe)

Week 5-Grove City Christian(have been a good point team the last two years)

I'd love to see NY vs. Gallia Academy in Week 3. I have mixed opinions on the private schools. I think Newark Catholic is a great game to play, but I don't think we should have more than one private school on our schedule. I'd rather play some decent public schools if we can. But you are right, Grove City Christian would be a decent point game, even though they are D6. Fairfield Christian is not a good team and is D6, so there has to be a better game than this available for that week.

NY has not played Gallia Academy since leaving the SEOAL. The Blue Devils are the only former rival of the Greyhounds/Buckeyes in the SEOAL that NY has not played since leaving the SEOAL.

Looking at our schedule, we are either going to have four straight weeks of road games or we will have more than five home games next year. I wonder how that will play out?

Another plus for playing Gallia Academy.........

NY has played at least one game against a SEOAL school every season, except for a couple years in the early 70s. However, NY did play Warren back then, and they are a current SEOAL school, so NY has always played AT LEAST one team from the SEOAL each season if you were to include the Warren TVC games.

I agree that we need to resume the game with Gallia, we are both relatively close in enrollment numbers and have winning traditions. I think after seeing the way the chips fell in region 19 that we need to start looking at points a little more. Berne Union was a fun game to watch but did very little to help our playoff chances. I am all about playing teams to prepare us for the playoffs but we need to think about getting enough points to get in first. Also would we be willing to go to Glouster agains next year to solve the scheduling thing?

I'll probably get in trouble for saying this, but I'll say it anyways...........keep the game in Nelsonville next year.......the folks at Trimble deserve to see a decent stadium once every two years! :-D

The NY NC matchup should be a great fit for both teams.
A NY GAHS matchup sounds good to me, it will cut down on my travel.

Fairfield Chrisitian is worse than the Fairfield School For Boys used to be years ago and will not get much better anytime soon. Grove City Christian is doing well this year in the playoffs because they had a some good kids come in from the Southwestern City Schools (Grove City,Westland,Franklin Heights and Central Crossing)after the levy defeat and having all fall sports cancelled. They've had good records in the past and not made the playoffs because of their scheduling. I say keep Newark Catholic (which we've talked about on some earlier threads) on the schedule for a few years and add a Gallipolis, New Lexington or Sheridan. JMO :)

I am all for this one as I posted it on another site a couple maybe three weeks ago.

As of now I have to say N.Y. is the fav but will not go in to details on the forum as to why I think this.

Sounds like a great game for both schools. What does NY have coming back for next year. NC loses some starters but in some of the positions I like who they are replaced by.

I know we are losing some key players but the majority of the starters were sophomores. Obviously losing Arnold will be key but Cunningham will fill in nicely I am sure. This years sophomore and freshman class have been a very special team since the biddy program having lost about 5 games since they started playing football.

I believe N.C. loses 15 seniors.
They have 20 juniors that I hope all come back along with a very talented Soph class that has 13 in it according to the roster I have.

Btw, this is a very exciting game for both schools. Wheelersburg would be another great addition then NY would have played four former state champions in Ironton, NC and Crooksville though I am not sure if Crooksville was after the playoff system started.
