Maybe I missed it somewhere but what kind of football team is Coshocton? Will they mirror or contrast what Ironton does?

Ironton tribune online is reporting that a tiger win Saturday will have them playing in Jackson next Saturday against the winner of Alter and Clinton Massie. We have to win first to worry about but glad the state already has made plans. Tigers take care of the ball, wrap up on your tackles and take care of business and we have a short drive next Saturday.

I don't think eating is going to be an issue if Tiger fans get their tailgate party together.

I'll ask the question again....we know what Ironton does. What kind of team is Coshocton? All this talk about tailgating and playing in Jackson next week is worrisome. Coshocton has to be pretty good to get this far. I doubt they are thinking about basketball just yet.

gahs4ever wrote:The SEOAL has been good for Ironton this year. After a mid season hiccup to Ashland, KY and then undefeated DII Logan in a close 21-7 game, Ironton has rebounded in a championship way.
They enter this game on a 7 game winning streak and outside of Chillicothe, the other 6 opponents (including the week 11 and 12 playoffs) have no worse than a 7-3 record! They beat 7-3's Jackson, Portsmouth, and Warren handily along with Coach Lutz's 361st varsity win against 8-2 Nelsonville-York. Then followed it up with a convincing 36-0 beating of Highland in week 11 and a 20-14 win over a very sound Heath squad.
In that 7 game win streak they outscored these excellent opponents 263-90, an average of 37.5-13. You cant ask for better preparation for a deep playoff run than they have experienced this year. For that reason I gotta go with the Fighting Tigers to advance to the state semis.
I don't know how good it has been for Ironton...it's about bankrupt them but..that's another story..
.......anyway, when I was picking 'Coach Of The Year' for the SEOAL for 2009 (nothing against Logan's).... I think..I'd kinda leaned towards the guy who became the winningest coach in the state this year...that would have seemed to have been a given to me..

Ok guys, first post since jumping ship from the other place. I am a alummi from Cambridge, and Coshocton is in the ECOL with the Bobcats. They have been playing good ball this year. Lots of speed in the backfield. Sorry I do not know much about Ironton, only that they always seem to be around the playoffs each year, so they must have a great program. I think it will be a good game with the team wanting the win the most getting it. Gotta stay with the ECOL and wish the Redskins Good Luck. This looks to be a good forum and I look forward to getting to know you guys, no matter which side of the ball you are on.

Welcome aboard! I'm a Logan fan but have seen Ironton many times including twice this year so I will give you my unbiased view of them. Ironton is big and physical. They have tremendous line strength on both sides of the ball. While they will put it in the air on occasion (if they have set the other team up fot it), their bread and butter is to pound it at the other team. They have very good runners, including their QB, but the secret to their success is in disciplined blocking schemes. Their linemen do a good job of setting up running lanes for their backs. They are susceptible on defense to a good passing game and will give up some big plays over the top. But they can also blitz effectively and disrupt a passing game, if you rely on it. They will be a very tough out and if Coshocton beats them, they will have earned it. What can we expect to see from Coshocton? Stengths and weaknesses?

Good insight Dazed. Ironton does love to control the tempo by pounding it out. I hope Ironton gets a few early completions just to loosen it up in the box. The last game our opponents made adjustments and took some of the ground game away. I don't look for Ironton to come out throwing but, they have had some sucsess earlier in the year doing that and i think this is kew for Ironton to come away with a "W".

Re: D4 - R15 - Regional Final - Ironton vs. Coshocton
Coshocton runs the Wing T and have been for 15 years or so. They are not complex but very fundamental in what they do. They are going to run the football and mix in a few waggles and down passes. I promise they will run the Jet Pass where the halfback goes in jet motion and then takes the handoff and throws it to the splitend downfield. They also will more than likely, they do in every big game/playoff game throw the double pass, they throw it out to the SE and the TE releases backside, they hit this play aginst Amanda. They have some skill players offensively, #22 and #27 they are fast and elusive. Think Belly, trap, buck criss cross joker and jet. In any short yardage situation they will put halfback to the same side as their wing and give it to the FB going straight ahead.
Defensively they run a 4-4. # 33 is a stud at middle backer. They are not very big but run to the ball extremely well. They are well coached and will play hard.

It looks like the OHSAA already has the state tournament brackets set for the semi-finals.
Some of the sites are already determined.
The winner of this game will play the winner of region 16.
I thought they usually waited until after the regional finals.
