Alter has shutout their last 3 opps. Defending State Champs move on but Massie keeps it closer than people think.

Alter have not seen a defense like Massie.. Massie's defense just shut down the most explosive offense, best QB and receiver in the state..

Mooney came into the playoffs back in 1999 and thought they would run all over Ironton...that didn't happen..Ironton beat them 34-24...could have been worse...wasn't close all night...Mooney was favored big in this one...anything can happen in high school football...

Was that one at Zanesville?

One thing that stands out about Alter is their losses over the last few years. Back in '06 they only lost to Stuebenville 33-34 in the State Championship. In '07 they lost in 3OT to Coldwater who won state in that classic vs Mooney. In '08 they forfeited their 1st 2 games prob due to an ineligible player then won state and no losses year to date. Thats crazy to have that kind of talent for consecutive years. Its obvious they get the cream of the crop from a large surrounding area. Thats why I typically root against Steubenville, Mooney, Coldwater, Alter etc......

That game was at Zanesville...

I too don't care too much for schools that have many kids from other schools...Ironton has gotten a rep for having kids coming in from other schools over the years...however...you could probably count the number of kids who did this on your two hands...and it really hasn't been that that has given Ironton the wins they have had...although I am sure it has helped a little..but it's the program...starting from the youngsters all the way to the top...It's tough to get noticed when you don't make it to the playoffs..and down this way..Ironton is the only team other than the burg that almost always make the playoffs...I was watching the Menter Lake Catholic game the other night...they have a really good QB and Wide Receiver...when they were talking to the QB after the game he was talking about how it was his first year playing with the team as was it the first year for the receiver..as they both transferred in...to play football....It's one thing to get a transfer here and there...but to build your team from transfers is another...

I remember a recent Mooney team that was awesome and they were said to have a large group of players to have transferred into the school but when it all came out there was only one player that had not been in the system from the start or maybe since Jr. High.

My point is has anyone seen how many of the current Alter players have been there since the beginning ir since Jr. high.

And for the record Alter is not a team that I root for.

I've heard in Indiana that Catholic schools and other private schools have their size class automatically increased by a certain amount to account for the fact they can pull in students from other areas. Can anyone confirm that?

i think they ought to have seperate state championships. if people don't believe there is an advantage. look at a stae playoff program. and see who wins most of the state championships. it's unfair. nobody will convince me different.

It was just a few years ago that Public schools swept the state finals in football at Indiana.

I have always said that there should be a separate division for catholic schools...maybe even two divisions...and if they want to find out who is really the best at the end...have div 1 play div 2 and have 3 play 4 and 5 play 6...then if they want to play more...have at it...winner vs winner...I think there should be an overall state champion...I remember a mentor Lake Catholic team that whooped up on us in the championship game...they had eleven players that went to major div 1 schools..including one mighty fine receiver that first went to Penn State...then all over the place in the pros...I wonder after hearing about their QB and Receiver this year..how many transferred in that year...and how fair it really was when we played them...just think how good they must have been...that was the year of Jermon Jackson...Walt Delong...Wolfgang...and more......But back to the topic...that year I really believe..Mentor Lake was the Best team in the state..regardless of division.

I agree mentor lake cath was a beast that year I remember the championship game that year man was it cold. Jermon was knocked out early in that game and we never recovered from it. But even with jermon in the game could we have won who knows but I believe it would have been a closer game but give mentor lake cath credit they was a very big and good team that year.

I just watched Alter play DCJ and came away very impressed.

22 looks like a beast and number 12 was a stud on defense.
