Portsmouth 7th/8th grade girls schedule, stats and results.

The Portsmouth 7th and 8th grade girls once again gained a split on the evening against the Wheelersburg Pirates. The 7th grade (8-2) continued their hot streak by defeating the Pirates by a score of 30-26. Williams and Jenkins both led the scoring with 11 pts apiece, Benner had 7 pts, and Stevens added 1 pt. The 7th grade will put their 7 game win streak on the line this Thurs. at home against Chillicothe, who gave the team one of its 2 losses.
The 8th grade (5-5) lost a tough one to the Lady Pirates 41-36. Portsmouth 8th lead by 5 pts at halftime but could not hang on for the victory. Phillips led the team with 16 pts, Swords contributed with 13 pts, Harr added 3 pts, and Jackson and Seison finished the scoring with 2 pts apiece. The 8th grade will also play this Thurs. against Chillicothe at home after the finish of the 7th grade game.

The 7th and 8th grade Lady Trojans earned yet another split tonight, but this time the 8th won and the 7th took the loss. The 7th grade (8-3) had their 7 game win streak stopped by Chillicothe 42-40. The score was tied at halftime and after the 3rd quarter. Very entertaining game to watch. Williams led the scoring with 20 pts, Jenkins 8 pts, and Benner and Stevens finished the scoring with 6 pts apiece.
The 8th grade (6-5) snapped their 2 game losing streak with an impressive 60-18 victory over the Lady Cavs. Phillips had a season high of 33 pts, Swords 13 pts, Jackson 10 pts, and Harr completed the scoring with 4 pts. Both teams will be back in action at home against Ironton on Monday 2/1 with the 7th tipping it up at 5:30.

The 7th and 8th grade Lady Trojans both won close games tonight at home against Ironton. The 7th grade (9-3) started out sluggish but came away with a 27-24 victory against the team that had given them one of their three losses. Benner and Jenkins led the way with 9 points apiece, while Williams added 7 points, and Ferrara closed the scoring with 2 points. The 8th grade (7-5) won their second in row 32-30. Phillips broke the 200 point plateau for the season tonight while leading the team with 17 points. Seison contributed 7 points, Swords chipped in with 4 points, and Jackson and Harr finished the scoring with 2 points apiece. Both teams will hit the road this Thursday 2/4 going to South Point with the 7th grade getting things started at 5:30.

The Portsmouth 7th and 8th grade Lady Trojans traveled to South Point tonight and came away with a split. The 7th grade (10-3) reached the double digit mark for wins by winning their second in a row 42-13. The 42 points scored by the 7th grade was this years season high. Williams led the way with 21 points, Jenkins 10 points, Benner 9 points, and Ferrara closed the scoring with 2 points. The 8th grade (7-6) led by 6 points at halftime but could not hold the lead and fell by a score of 47-34. Phillips continued her hot scoring run by knocking in 22 points, Swords 7 points, Harr 3 points, and Jackson closed the scoring with 2 points. Both teams will finish the regular season on the road on Monday 2/8 against West Portsmouth.

The Portsmouth 7th and 8th grade girls finished the regular season tonight by splitting at West Portsmouth with the 7th grade winning and the 8th grade taking a loss. The 7th grade (11-3) won their 3rd in a row 38-30. Williams passed the 200 point mark on the season while leading the team in scoring with 21 points, Jenkins contributed 12 points, Kitchen added a 3 pointer, and Benner finished the scoring with 2 points. The 8th grade (7-7) played a lot better than they did the first time playing West but still came up short by a score of 57-42. Phillips led the way with 24 points, Swords 10 points, Seison added 5 points, and Harr closed the scoring with 3 points. Both teams will compete in the Vinton County Tournament which starts this Saturday 2/13. As soon as game times and opponents are confirmed it will be announced on this page.

7th grade girls games once again cancelled for this evening. Looks like the teams will play this Friday, weather permitting. Logan vs. Ironton at 5:15 and Portsmouth vs. Jackson at 6:45.

Results from the 7th grade girls Vinton County Tournament:

1) Logan defeated 5) Ironton 31-21. 2) Portsmouth defeated 6) Jackson 40-27.

The 7th grade Lady Trojans (12-3) advanced to the championship game against Logan after defeating Jackson 40-27 in the semi-finals. The team won their 4th in a row by leading by 6 at halftime and gradually building that lead throughout the 2nd half. Williams led all scorers with 19 points, Jenkins contributed 12 points, and Benner finished the scoring with 9 points. The Championship game against Logan will take place at 7:30 pm on Monday 2/22. The Portsmouth 7th grade girls ended the season with a loss in the Championship game of the Vinton County Tournament against Logan by a score of 51-26. The Lady Trojans actually led after the 1st quarter but could not maintain that momentum the rest of the way. A lack of depth and a sub-par defensive effort was their downfall. Also, Logan was very good with alot of talent, speed and height. The runner-up finish gave the team an end of the year record of 12-4. Williams led the scoring with 14 points, Jenkins added 9 points, and Benner finished the scoring with 3 points.
