You might want to look at our schedule before you make such a comment. Licking Heights & Wellston could have easily been losses this year and 2 years ago we were 2-8 with no sure wins. Fairland may not be the strongest team in the area but hardly a sure win for GAHS. Now the I-town situation.. The last 31 times we have played, 27 losses & 4 wins… Most years the game is not competitive & the last 3 years we have scored a game high of 7 points. Why would any team want a game like this? If we were actually scared of I-town we would have dropped them 4 years ago or sooner. I am not convinced about the huge gate we will loose. From what I have witnessed GAHS brings more fans to I-town than they bring to us… Just check out the stands this week and form you own opinion.

As I have stated before, I worked for years in Newark, the home of the Newark Catholic Green Wave. The arguments about scheduling, recruiting etc. that you see here and now are nothing new. All successful programs hear them. It is my opinion that most of these are bogus complaints. With open enrollment the private schools have less of an advantage then they use to have. The old Licking County League broke up mainly because teams didn't want to play NC. Consider the fact that Licking Valley didn't back away from playing NC. They decided they wanted to build their program into a power house that could beat NC. If you want to get to the 'next level' you must play teams at the next level to test your progress. LV eventually had a better program than NC. Heath was never afraid to play NC and their program has had success.

I believe Ironton is the kind of program you should attempt to schedule. You can see where you are and see where you need to go. I will probably ruffle sone I town feathers by saying I don't think Ironton's physical talent is much better than some other schools in SEO. They have one of the top coaches in the state. They are mentally tougher than most of the schools they play. When they take the field against a good team, they expect to win and many times their opponent hopes they can win. That is a huge difference. Last year when GAHS went to Ironton to play the coaching and mental toughness made Ironton the lop sided winner, not the physical talent difference. Ironton may have been atheletically better, the two teams looked very similar to me.

The old LCL broke up. As previously stated many teams didn't want to play NC. Today it is on the way to returning. Travel expensess seem to be the main reason. SEO has unique circumstances that no other part of Ohio has to deal with. Schedule the toughest opponents you can find while trying to keep travel expenses down. If you are taking your lumps figure out what you have to do to go to the level of your opponents.

You kids today don't know what this rivalry is about! Were not scheduling them because all SEAOL teams are mad because they left our league. Well this league is dead!!
Licking Heights is big in numbers but not a power house.
Schreduling more div 4 teams with no secondary points is dumb!
Scared!

I usually get on and read but now I need to reply to what JChipwood wrote "On a more positive note, I don't think I have ever seen a Blue Devil run harder than Brandon Taylor. Pound for pound he is the strongest back I have witnessed at GAHS." I agree that he is a strong runner but I have witnessed several backs over the past twenty years that ran much harder.

We managed to find Teams to play us for years as an Independent. The AD's job is a little tougher but We'll manage to find Teams that's not afraid to play us in the future.

About a year ago, our former AD in Chilli told me that the SEOAL was "putting the pressure" on all league members to DROP Ironton as punishment for leaving the league.

I think it is great when Ironton is independant. Before schedules are released, you know everyone else's because they are lucky if one games changes from year to year.

Ironton on the other hand.......I've seen teams from Washington DC, Canada, Cincy, Columbus, big D-I size KY and WV teams. You never know who might appear on the schedule. Sure, there may be a cream puff on the schedule from time to time, but there will be more powerhouse teams than cream puffs, and the average opponent size for Ironton has been higher than any other team in SE Ohio for the last 25 years.

Ironton will ALWAYS play a tough schedule regardless and it will ALWAYS pay off when its time to playoff!!

When was the last time Gallia Academy played for one? Woa i forgot about girls track.
Not even a close comparison!
Ironton played for Basketball titles in the past 8 years,Make the playoffs every year almost in football.
I promise you we don't want to get into a pissing match with Ironton, they have won more times in the playoffs than we have been in them.
What we won 2 playoff games?
The difference in Ironton football and GA football they send players to div 1 schools just like all the teams who play in the final 4's
I hate when we try to act like were on their level, happens on here every year. We want to be where Ironton is were not
The decades of the 70's and early 80's GA rarely had a 6 win season lucky to be .500,we were thought of as a Basketball School, only around 85-88 we started to come around and make some noise in football. Lets not insult Ironton fans and players, they have tradition we don't we have a nice program, not even close to their level!
I say we keep playing them! the only way to be the man is to BEAT THE MAN! Or we wanna strut about kicking in Fairlands teeth?

Super, I'm not on here to argue with anyone. I, for one, have enjoyed supporting my Tigers and my adopted Chilli Cavs anytime we have competed with GAHS in football, basketball, whatever.

I hope the series continues with Ironton. I think Gallia's program will suffer if they start dropping the level of competition.

If that is true Ironton is going to have a rough way to go in the future. This isn't the 80's anymore. It's gonna get very difficult for Ironton to find late season games. The SEOAL schools will be in league play weeks 6-10 next year with the departure of Marietta. They won't be available anymore. I'm sure Portsmouth will continue to schedule them earlier in the season, but the Ironton administration chose this path. In the end it will be the Ironton kids that suffer if there is only an 8 game season.

I do think Ironton will win this game, but I think it will be closer than some might think. Ironton isn't as good as they were last year, and the Gallia defense has played pretty well so far this season. I don't think Ironton will score at will like last year, but Gallia's offense won't be productive enough to win this game.

In reference to the schedule, if Gallia is no longer playing Marietta and Ironton I think Fairland is a pretty good pick-up. They are a division 4 school that is a relatively short drive from Gallipolis. It should produce some good crowds from both sides. Some other area schools they should possibly look at scheduling in the future are Nelsonville, Meigs, Portsmouth West, and Wheelersburg. Point Pleasant should still be back on the schedule permanently.

I know Ironton has 4 open dates each the next two years with weeks 6, 7, 9 and 10 open both years.
