Does Oak Hill have a week 9 game for 2010 yet?

Post by oneoak »

I have read on here and elsewhere that Wheelersburg replaces River Valley in week 2 and Wellston replaces Trimble in week 4, but what about week 9? South Gallia will be playing a TVC Hocking game that week now so a new opponent is needed.

I have seen on other threads that Ironton was a possibility, but they are still listed as open on the OHSAA website and on Irontonfootball.com.

The Oaks will play New Richmond home in 2010 and away in 2011.

That should be an interesting matchup.

because they do not duck playing good teams to make their record look better before the teams in their league kick their butts. Who would do that ?

I'm not making this about Jackson. Thanks for the cheap shot, though.

Oak Hill has a very good football team right now and their senior class will be loaded next season. That means they have another great shot to make another playoff run. I believe they may have already added Wheelersburg to next year's schedule (not sure yet) and New Richmond is a perennial playoff team, but nowhere near as good as Ironton. With Burg already on the schedule, it would probably be considered over-scheduling to add Ironton also, in my opinion.

Ironton, in this situation, is looking for a "harbin cow". They know Oak Hill is going to win a lot of games, but they also know they will beat Oak Hill. That's not a knock on Oak Hill. It's just a fact that very few teams in this area are able to consistently compete with Ironton, and Oak Hill is not one of those teams. On the other hand, if Oak Hill schedules Ironton and loses to them, they most likely would have trouble making the playoffs or definitely be left out. Why sacrifice a potential repeat trip to the playoffs for a one-year deal with Ironton?

I'm all for playing good competition, but this game is only good for Ironton. They get the win, the computer points, and the home game (I think that was the offer) and what does Oak Hill get? A loss and a little bit of money.

The only reason I made my original post was because I could see that the obligatory "They must be afraid of Ironton" comment was coming. Oak Hill simply chose the better game for their program at this time. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ironton shouldn't and won't play Oak Hill. . . no good can come of it. It's like playing Coal Grove: either you beat them by a bazillion points and don't really accomplish anything or better your team, or you risk an embarrasing loss.

fuzzhead,

Ironton contacted Oak Hill to try to schedule this game. As you said, this is a game that shouldn't happen, and it looks like the decision-makers at Oak Hill agree with us, but Ironton did attempt to make this game happen. In a way, it's smart scheduling by Ironton. Play a team that is very good and will win a lot of games, but also a team that you will most likely beat. Essentially, Ironton would be taking most of the risk out of this week on the schedule, while receiving a great reward...a ton of computer points. Sure, the Oaks could pull the upset because they will have a very talented football team, but it's unlikely in my opinion.
