Just a thought

Why couldn't Ironton stay in the league in football only? They are still playing most of the league anyway....was this a possibility?

No, it's either all or nothing.

the topic turned to ovc when some darn fool mentioned one of them playing ironton which never bodes well for the ovc team. they need to keep playing their river valleys and minfords and stay out of the deep end where the sharks are. and i hate to get nasty but i have forgotten more about this sport than most of the idiots on here will ever know

Another dough ball?

A 9 game season will make it tough to get into the playoffs. As far as a dough ball - just tell it like it is!

I'm the one that asked about Ironton playing fairland and chesapeak because the will play ports. and ports. west just thought it would be good gate revenue for both teams is all and help on traveling. And I am not a fool thank you just asked a question is all .

It's a combination of several factors. First, as someone alluded to earlier, the OVC programs solidly refuse to better themselves. Most in the conference are happy with winning the OVC and that's it, even though there is talent available for any of those programs to potentially become an Ironton or a Wheelersburg. The main issue with these teams is the support and just the will to improve. The kids want to play Ironton.
You're dead-on about the attendance issue. It's been proven time and time again that Ironton v. OVC sells tickets whether it be regular season, postseason, or even jamboree games. That's not even debatable, IMO. Ironton travels well, especially right next door to one of the county schools. It will also draw more fans from the OVC school in question, as well as neutral fans.

fuzz is dead on on that one. most are missing the point. take the biggest school in the ovc is it rock hill or south point now? doesnt matter, say it's he hill. let them play de sales 5 years in a row and see what happens. what do you think? the teams in the ovc dont want to shoot any higher than a league title because it is too comfortable playing down. to improve their programs would mean taking chances they are not willing to take ,spending money they dont have to spend, getting beat up pretty bad for years to come before it would finally show in the won loss column. lets take a step down in comp, use amanda clearcreek instead of de sales and the results don't change much. this doesnt mean i am bashing the kids at these schools [ which i have been accused of] it is the people running the programs and electing the school boards who wont take the plunge. remember when ironton was in the col? a whipping every friday night. it took years to get to the point they are at now. and granted an ironton ovc game is good for the gate $$ it is murder on the points total for ironton as second level points are almost non existent

I agree with the secondary points Ironton would have to go 8-2 or better to make the playoffs not counting a home game if they would ever get into the OVC but I don't see that happening.
But I would enjoy seeing A few of the other county teams on Irontons schedule I know Ironton did play south point for a few years in football.
Not wanting to stir the pot I also agree that it seems that most of the OVC teams are happy with a league tittle just to see them selfs to get routed in the playoffs just as Coal Grove did this year.
Maybe coal grove is on the right road for them and the playoffs was a fluke for them to get beat like that I don't know but I do believe you need to play a schedule that makes you stronger as a team to be competive in the playoffs.
Irontons playing Logan even jackson and ect. only helped them but again I was just curios on why they can't play a few OVC teams since the furthest is a little over half an hour away.

i would like to see Ironton play Columbus Desales or waverly. the desales was always a good game to see where Ironton will stand in the playoffs usually and waverly on the other hand gives us a game of Tigers vs. tigers.

2 points, the travel issue isn't about football, its about having things like girls bball playing in zanesville or logan on a weeknight. would love to see ironton stay in the league football only. 2nd point, in the 70's i know of no kids who came to ironton to play football from the county schools, they still won a state title and 90 percent of their games. But when you when year after year, a few kids will want to come for obvious reasons.

Ironton will be making some deep runs, in football, and basketball in the next few years.

i wouldnt be surprised to see them win the state in one,or even both, they have that kind of talent in both.

Best Freshman class ive ever seen. And that's without ever seeing the injured Dion Brown who Lutz had in the backfield rotation on varsity. That's unheard of from Lutz. Dont even think Jermon was up there that early. Maybe on returns. Kid must have something. Anyone see him play in Junior High? Will he be able to go at it next fall?

Good luck to Ironton in the future. Sad to see them leave the league again. Especially now that some of the longer trips like Zanesille and Marietta are or soon will be gone.

I have heard that he is right on schedule to make it back for the season...and yes...he is the real deal...I don't know about winning the state though..until the state decides what to do with allowing public schools play in the same divisions with travel teams...it's going to be tough..although..I believe this group will be awful talented...best talent lutz has seen since the late eighties and early nineties...

As of right now, Ironton only has an 8 game schedule. I can't remember if it was the Hartley or Ready deal that fell through and week 9 is still open.

Was told they are trying to get Belfry back on the schedule for week 9 but for now, this hinges on Sheldon Clark getting their schedule changed, whom Belfry has scheduled for week 9.

Ironton has alot of talent returning and has starters returning. Let's not look apast them to the freshman just yet.
Our Juniors and seniors of next season will take care of business. What are your thoughts on them?
