Really? Because Chesapeake after the 1st half basically controlled the game.

I was at the game and I will say this, that Burg team was pretty average in my opinion. They do not handle pressure very well and make a lot of mental errors. This team did not look a thing like a Tom Barrick coached team.

Chesapeake after the first 4 minutes woke up and out played the Burg.

The key was the mismatches. McMaster as I said and some did not believe me, was the key. He is a nightmare to match up with. The Kennedy kid will be a pretty good player in time. He has all of the tools.

Good way to start the year.

Great game peake. You have some ballers for sure on that team! Burg, many turnovers, 2nd quarter was unbearable to watch..maybe scored 4 points? Not sure...I know the Burg went 5 minutes with out seeing a bucket. Congrats to peake..keep getting better and you all have a special ball club. Burg, it was the first game..get in the gym and practice...you have to make your free throws and lay-ups! I think everyone that watched the game would agree the refs kind of took away the game in 3rd quarter...some awfull calls on both ends of the court..in conclusion...Peake great game..Burg..need to iron out some qwirks! GO BURG!

I do not agree at all. If anyone was getting bad calls it was Chesapeake. The Panthers had two kids foul out (Kennedy and Copley).

Wheelersburg basically played themselves out of the game. Once the Kennedy kid came in they just could not match up. If they drove then Kennedy and McMaster basically would swat it away. This turned the Burg into a jump shooting team. Wheelersburg was also awful handling the basketball. The buckled under pressure. They must have had close to 30 tunrovers in the game and I did not think Chesapeake was putting that much pressure on them. Once the Burg figured out they couldn't attack the rim then they started shooting a lot of jumpers and that was it. Chesapeake worked it inside and it opened up shots from the outside.


I think Wheelersburg will be a quality team, but no way this team is the #1 team in SEO. That team I watched was not even a top 15 Wheelersburg team. I have seen 10-15 Burg teams better then what I saw last night. I am not being mean, just realistic. The Burg fans should dial back expectations.

Great call Avalanche. Peake wasnt even on their game from what I have seen so far this year. Too many unforced errors. McMaster kept them in the game but wasnt the deciding factor. It was TEAM ball. He will be a starter all year though. If Kennedy starts it will be in replace of Lindsey. Thats just my opinion. Would be hard to keep McMaster and 20 points a game on the bench. And he is only goiing to get better as the year goes on and his confidence grows. Copley played a solid game! He only scored 13 but showed a lot by not trying to force things. His points will come! No way of stopping that. Kennedy is going to be a very solid performer IMO. Someone stated that he needs time to fit in and adjust to the style of coaching. I think that hits the nail on the head. Lindsey played a very good defensive game as usual. Hintz had a little bit of a rusty night. He has gotten much better handling the ball and running the offense this year. You will see that in another game or two. I think first game jitters and nerves had a lot to do with how the game played out on both ends. Saunders had a very good game too. Gives up 4 inches but still controls the boards. This Peake team is going to be good. Next two games are still very tough ones. Watched Fairland play Friday night. Wasnt impressed. Now their starting point guard is out with a broken hand after he hit his own player. Could spell trouble. Far as The Burg goes. They will still have a good year. May take them a couple games. Bendolph is very good at going to the hole. Peake couldnt stop him once he figured out he could do it. He is way out of shape though. He was asking to coome out 3 minutes into the game. Stegman just had an off night IMO. Overall, congrats to the Peake. Keep it in the OVC!

That will never happen. Burg has a traditon of EXCELLENCE... that will never cahnge. Fans will always expect the best. Its up to the players to meet those expectaions, or @ least do their very best.

I was very impressed with the play of McMaster and Kennedy, they dominated the middle and we had no answer. Copley had a quite 13 points but this kid is a player. Saunders played well, giving the Peake defense and scoring. I have seen the Hintz kid play several times before and Sat. IMO, he just didnt seem comfortable for whatever reason. If he can play good defense, run the offense and get the ball to the other 4 guys, this team is going to be a handful as the season progresses.

Dont forget the fact that McMaster is only 15 years old. Wont even be 16 until sometime in the summer. He's still got some growing to do. And with being a football player should put on some more weight. Heard he's a heck of a quarterback but never got to see him play fball.

Like was said, Burg will not give up over one loss. Trust me, this team will be in the thick of things come tourney time.

Yeah, we did have high expectations for this time, but it is like that every year at the Burg. It's not being cocky, it is having confidence. Every Burg player, boys or girls team expects to win every game everytime they step onto a court, field or diamond. When they do lose they pick themselves up, they go shake hands and they start to work on how they need to get better so that they don't lose the next game.

On a side note, pfloyd put alot on an unproven team by making them preseason number 1 in his poll. It is good to have people think that highly of the program but I thought myself that that was way to high for this team, especially with them just coming off of football season and not having played a whole lot with Bendolph. he will only make what was going to be a great even better.

Good luck Pirates and Peake the rest of the season. I'd have to believe that these two might meet somewhere in the tourney. Peake better be expecting a different Pirate team then.

JMO..Burg will be fine.. give the group time to gell as a team.. JV team didnt look to bad to be all freshman besides one soph.. I think this team and players will improve as the year goes on as well...

Yes but chesapeake left room for improvement. They arent going to level off after the first game. So i think it is safe to say Burg better be expecting a different Peake team as well.

I meant no disrespect to the Burg. They are a fine team, but I have seen my share of Wheelersburg teams and this one is not the same caliber as teams past. They will always be a very strong team, but you should really dial back expectations for this team. I could be way off.
