Re: 2010 REDS
harrang and masset should be shipped downt to the minors and bring somebody up. when volques gets back put him in the bullpin. THE REDS NEED A WIN OVER LA and get a half game lead over the cards
Re: 2010 REDS
I would have to disagree with the statement that Harang is an innings eater, as he averages the least innings pitched per game of all of the starters.

gahs4ever wrote:Perhaps Im just showing my age, but today's athletes are supposed to be bigger, faster, and stronger and yet I dont see it on the field; especially when it comes to pitching. Consider:
I dont know when the five man rotation became the vogue in MLB, but in my youth and even in my young adult years, the emphasis was on four man rotations; the poster child of which would be the 1970 Baltimore Orioles who had three 20 game winners; all of whom pitched 290 innings or more.
Mike Cuellar was 24-8 in 297 IP, Dave McNally was 24-9 in 296, and Jim Palmer was 20-10 in 305. This was the team that beat the Reds in the 1970 World Series.
I'm also remembering Denny McClain; the last 30 game winner who posted a 31-6 mark in 1968 while pitching 336 innings.
I could go back and look up the greats of that generation like Don Drysdale, Ferguson Jenkins, Nolan Ryan, etc but the point is today's pitchers are throwing fewer innings and most are having shorter careers in spite of all the medical and training advances. I dont get it, and the question I would pose in this post is...............................
will major league baseball EVER see another 300 game winner when the best pitchers are only pitching slightly more than 200 innings a year and almost never finish what they start?
No we will never see another 300 game winner.

Re: 2010 REDS
I think CC will give 300 a go.
I think all the supplements and weight training keep pitchers from being elastic enough to pitch like Ryan, Sutton, Seaver, Carlton and such used to....never babied their arms!

Re: 2010 REDS
Let's look at some of the pitchers the Reds have faced recently:
Game 1 vs. LA: Kuroda, a solid veteran pitcher with a 3.10 ERA this year
Game 2 vs. LA: Kershaw, one of the best in the league
Game 1 vs. Seattle: Lee, Cy Young winner
Game 2 vs. Seattle: Hernandez, a very solid pitcher
Game 3 vs. Seattle Rowland Smith, a guy who hasnt pitched very well lately, but was most certainly due.
Four very good pitchers and one guy who had a good game. The wheels are coming off; the Reds just ran into some tough ones.
