Almost all of their offensive production returns:

QB - Trey Harris (The No. 1 QB in the TVC-Ohio last season) 98-177-3-1,380 yds and 19 touchdowns!

RB - Devon Sharp (The No. 7 running back) 84-554 yds and 8 TD's
RB - Tanner Weaver (The No. 9) - 83-405 yds and 5 TD's
RB - Seth Stalder - racked up a ton of yds late in games and flashed a ton of potential.
RB - Chris Russell - Same as above.

WR - Ian Dixon (The No. 3 WR in the TVC-Ohio) 21-375 yds and 4 TD's.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now - for some who believe there are questions about the OL and DL.

1) Trevor Sorrel - 5-foot-8 225 LB (soph) - will be a (Jr.) - played a lot of downs in 2009 at NG and on the OL. He's big and only getting bigger and he's tough ... the kind of kid Athens use to lack in the past, but seem to be finding lately under Adams.

2) Joe Germano - 6-foot-3 210 LB (will be a Sr.) - helped anchor the No. 1 rated defense in the TVC-Ohio last year. Son of Coach Germano at Ohio University ... He's big, strong and fast and hits like a truck ... Will be in the running for defenseive P.O.Y in 2010.

3) Dean Maffin - 5-foot-10 190 LB (will be a Sr.) - was hurt during his soph season so he went through kind of a learning curve in 2009. Has played MLB/FB most of his career and will be looked upon heavilly in 2010 to step up and be the player a lots of folks expect him to be.

4) Mitch Rider - 5-foot-11 200 LB (will be a Jr.) - younger brother of Vinny Ryder, who was defensive P.O.Y in 2009 and recently signed with the Naval Academy. Mitch got a lot of playing time in 2009, mostly as a back-up full back and on defense at linebacker. Watch out for this kid, if he grows like his brother, he should be a beast by the time football season rolls around.

5) Jordan Keener - 6-foot- 270 LB's! - A lot of people know Jon Keener, who anchored the O-line in 2009. Jordan is the same size now and is still growing ... He's part of a group of 'younger brothers' on this team that will make the Bulldogs look & sound a lot like the one in 2009 ... there are like 4 or 5 of them ... so when folks say " Athens won't be as good, they have too many people to replace" - that isn't really the entire truth. Athens has a ton of kids returning everywhere AND the holes which they do have to replace are going to be replaced by kid brothers that are either the same size of not bigger & stronger.

6) Korey Sweeney - Sr. - 5-foot-8 180 lb
Dan Deluca - Sr. - 6-foot 215 lb
Mason Kottyan - Sr. - 5-foot-10 300 lb
Zach Williams - Jr. - 5-foot-10 240 lb
Zac Martin - Sr. - 5-foot-10 220 lb
Jacob Elliott - Jr. - 6-foot-2 200 LB

----------------------------------------------------------

If you're not from Athens and happen to remember names when the Bulldogs play - its going to be easy to mistake the team in 2010 for the one in 2009 or even 2008 ... Not only do you have all the returning skill players, names like RIDER, KEENER, STANLEY, STALDER will all be out their playing - they're just not the same exact kids, same genetics - but different player.

Well it looks like Athens will have some good kids coming back. They will make a fine 2nd place team next year. They will battle it out with Alex and maybe Meigs for 2nd place.

Just remember Athens has to come to Title Town TVC week 10

Yes Athens has a great chance at the second spot in the Ohio. Nelsonville loves having the D-II points for the playoffs I am sure.

O & B ... Be careful what you wish for buddy ... Athens and their speed in the backfield will be more than pleased to play on the TURF!

I truly believe that "IF" the games were switched the last 2 years - Athens would have had a better chance at winning both games ... in 2008 we had a team built for the mud and we played at your place ... we had a big back (Tope) and we darn near won at Dave Boston Field (cough, cough ... the 3rd down pass when we were 3 yrds from the end-zone)

Last year we had a great passing game, fast recievers and Sharp/Dixon/McCollum (who all utilize their speed and cutting ability) and look what happened - we played NY one week after your MUD-BOWL in Albany ... We play that game on the turf, I would have liked our chances a little better.

With the same group of skill players back - I am liking the fact we play at Boston Field ... Once the helmets are on - you can't hear the crowd anyway ... its all about the playing surface ...

Oh yea, not to mention ... what has occured the last two years will be weighing heavily on the Athens players, coaches and fan base minds ... You Bucks have one comin ya know!!!! lol

lol ... I believe the correct statement should be "Dave Boston and the help of his father (who is said to have given Dave Jr. some halftime adjustements advice during the game this past fall) have owned 3rd year head coach Ryan Adams lately."

Growing up, I remember some runs Athens had on NY, and then in high school in 1989 & 1990 we kicked the 'Bucks butt, and then Gregory and his bunch whooped up on the orange & brown ... so to me "Owning" just doesn't seem right.

Have the Bucks owned the 'Dogs lately? Uh yea ... But really in 2008, Athens wasn't that great - I believe we went 4-6? So you almost lost to a team with a losing record. (cough, cough thanks to Mr. Fox!) ... The 2009 victory was far-and-away the Buckeyes biggest win over Athens ... its the only TVC-Ohio loss the Bulldogs have suffered in the last 365+ days!!!That is just crazy ... With their baseball team loaded again this year, Athens might go 1 year and 7 months until it is faced with a chance of losing a league game. (that would be September 2010 when they play Meigs on the gridiron)

Just think of the magnitude (if they do go undefeated in baseball) of the game if Athens is undefeated in the TVC-Ohio again in week 10 next year???!!! lol They will have gone over a year without losing a single league game (since the Buckeyes game in 09 was week 8) and will have gone almost two years with only losing one game ... OMG, Dave Boston Field would be so packed they will have to bring in more stands!

i have to say i do not understand somrthing. why in heck athens left the seoal/ the team they had last year was really good. they would have done some real damage against the seoal. they looked nothing like the team 2 years ago. i know the tvc isn't the seoal but exactly why the tremendous change?
that being said, i would not count out meigs or alexander. meigs this year did not have the fire that they have had. i do not know why. i know jacob id not have the recievers to do the damage that he had the previous year. i do believe they can reload. the 10th graders are stacked. they are the most talented group since the class of 2009. they have won on every level and that usually carries over.
alexander i do not know about but maybe they only got a taste and want more. seemed to me if they had had some size they could have been really great. winning normally brings kids who would not normally come out. the right coach tends to build on success. i hope that is who you have. good luck to every body in the tvc. hope we kick non league butt. ;-)

Woulda,Coulda, Shoulda!!!! Those don't count in Football.

Nelsonville-York went 8-2 with a bunch of 10th graders. We will not lose a league game for a couple more years at least. I don't usually brag this much or talk like this, but the rest of the TVC just doesn't understand what NY has.
Thers a train coming boys!!! You better get off the track!

A bunch fo 10th graders? You have 236 carries for 1,536 yards and 19 touchdowns to replace O & B?

That was like 80% of your offense ... Justin Cunningham carried the ball 79 times for 385 yrds and only scored three times all season ...

A bunch of 10th graders ... are you kidding ... Arnold was the Buckeyes last year - that is a H.U.G.E whole to fill.

Athens has almost ALL OF ITS OFFENSIVE production back, the train you speak of isn't a train at all ... ITS A PACK OF WILD DOGS HEADIN YOUR WAY!

We got 3 maybe 4 backs who will be competing for that job and all of them would be starters on any other TVC team. Nelosonville-York is going to run over, under, and around the TVC-Ohio. All I can tell you is when the train hits you on it's way through you can't say you didn't know!

only a fool would think you replace jacob and jeremy did not even mean to imply that. what i am saying about the super sophs is that the juniors well, they just do not seem to be the athletes the sophs are. they will be juniors next year. the upcoming seniors are talented just not enough of them. i do not know how meigs will do but my guess is the coach will get up to play.
my bet also is nelsonville WILL BE ready. arnold was really great but hey they won before him and my bet is they will win after.

O & B ... Y'all better be learning how to execute the forward pass before week 10 buddy ... I predict a serious shift in offensive philosophy for the Bulldogs next season with Harris being the main man on the team ... Lots of passing, spread you out type of formations, geting Sharp & Dixon the ball in space so they can use their speed and agility ... Points will be plentiful and Coach Goodwin has shown to be a heckuva a defensive cordinator ... You Bucks better be figuring out other ways to score besides off-tackle left, off-tackle right and sweep left and sweep right ... lol

why should we change that?? It's been kicking your butts for a long time!

This is going to be a fun fun season!!!!!! :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245 :122245

You will see that that NY will throw the ball more than last year. We will have some good WR's coming back so that will help a lot.
I am not totally for sure but I am pretty sure we are dumping the 4-4 to. That was one scary 1 year expeirment

I think he might be a nephew, but I am not sure ... there are like 100 Stalders with most of them boasting a Salem Road address ... lol

Nathan played for Athens one year (his freshman year) when I was a senior ... tough little kid, which most Stalders are ... Living in the Salem Road area I believe gives you a choice of schools (NY or Athens) depending on exactly where you live ... I know Nathan switched schools because we were TERRIBLE back then ... 0-10 my junor year; 1-9 my senior ... Nathan didn't want any part of that ... lol

I didn't remember that Nathan played a year at Athens, but actually with the Maxwell bros. Athens was decent in football. I played football and baseball with Nathan throughout our youth careers and H.S. I still can't remember him going to Athens, but I would not really know. Now that I think about it I don't remember him playing at NY in Middle School either. I guess I always just thought of him as a Nelsonville guy.

I would like to think Wellston will be competitive, but with a new staff and changes who knows. I really thought last year the Rockets would win at least 7 games, the whole coaching staff did.It didnt happen though. After those first four hard fought games against some really good teams (27-13 combined record) the Rockest just seemed to loose focus and played down to the compitition.
I think this years team has alot of young talent with a few seniors to blend in ,providing they all return.I beleive if they just line up and run the ball there is enough talent at the skill positions to win games. The problem facing the new staff is a brutal start of the season again. Jackson-H Minford-H Gallia-A Oak Hill-H Fairland-A.The Oak hill game may be away not sure on it ,also if Phillips comes to Wellston given the talent the Oaks have returning this could be a game that will stand out.The league is very balanced IMO Athens (the BIG DAWG) Nelsonville and Alexander all sould be good in league play. I know the Athens faithfull hate being told they are the big dawg ,but facts are facts .I never liked the move of the league letting a school of that size in the league.JMHO Im not going to argue this point Athens fans it is what it is.
The Rockets should be fine if the kids work hard for the new staff and take the game more serious than in recent years . They need to play more team ball and quit worring about self .
Just a thought on this snowy cold February day .

I myself would like to say Wellston should do pretty decent this year. What happened last year was mix of a lot things, more pressure to win games, not beleiving in coaching, and a lot of the negativity coming from the stands, its hard for kids to play well when you have past players telling you that this town is counting on you to win. It'll be the same story this year but maybe with a new coaching staff coming in the players will beleive in the coaches unlike past years!
