I think it is awesome that all these Athens County Schools and the whole TVC-Ohio is a contender in the league. Especially with NY and Athens talking so much smack. I support both schools, and think it was good for Athens to move over to the TVC-Ohio so this rivalry is possible and will have some league implications. However, things you have to remember, take the coaches, their decisions, individual plays, stats, etc. out of it...NY has dominated this series. This is a small D-5 school that beats a much bigger school (Athens) year in, year out. Athens moved out of a league where they were playing schools their size so that they could compete with much smaller schools. I like the move, but I am not sure they should be talking so much smack until they dominate the league for a few years. I like the hope and confidence, but the proof is in the pudding, and right now NY dominates this game and the whole league.

BTW, I am a graduate of Athens. I know how sweet it would be for Athens to win.

IM SHOCKED THAT 44% OF THE VOTING HAS BEEN FOR NY ...

I KNOW THE 'BUCKS ARE ALWAYS GOOD ... BUT NO TEAM IN THE TVC-OHIO RETURNS AS MUCH AS ATHENS DOES AT THE SKILL POSITIONS ...

WHO ELSE RETURNS AN ALL-LEAGUE QUARTERBACK? ITS TOP 2 TAIL-BACKS? AND BEST WR?

HOW ANYONE CAN OVERLOOK TREY HARRIS IS CRAZY ... THE KIDS STATS WERE OFF THE CHARTS FOR A HIGH SCHOOL QB: 98 Completitions - in only 177 Attempts - only 3 INT's all season long and blew away all QB's away with 19 TOUCHDOWNS!

How anyone can dismiss the impact of DEVON SHARP, who was only a young sophomore last season but rushed for 554 yds on 84 carries (6.6 yds per carry) and 8 TD's, is beyond me.

TANNER WEAVER - a solid 200 LB tailback who ran for 405 yds and scored 5 TD's.

But its IAN DIXON who may have the brightest future of them all - his dad is a coach at Ohio University and was a D-1 college football player so the genetics are there ... but last season he was amongst so many offensive weapons that his stats weren't overwhelming ... He still ended up ranked 3rd in the TVC-Ohio with 21 receptions for 375 yds and 4 TD's ... But its his special teams talent that makes him even more important and they use him on a number of running plays as well.

Looking through the glass as a reporter that covered all 5 Athens County teams last season and not as a Bulldogs fan - I can honestly say NO TEAM IN THE AREA is bringing back that much skill and talent on offense ... If anyone believes last season was a one year fluke - you might want to hold off on that notion and see what Athens does against a pretty tough non-league schedule the first 4 weeks of the season.

You can have all the skill players you want..unless you have a solid offensive and defensive line..youll only win about half of your games. VC had GREAT skill players in 07 and 08 and they went 9-11 in those two seasons. IF Athens can reload in the trenches, they will be dangerous again next year...if not, then they will struggle against strong defensive teams. imo.

I agree with Dundas, If Athens dont get the same or better line play as last year skill players need blocks, and a defensive line is priceless.

We've already checked that date off as a win Dundas - so no need for the listing. lol lol

BTW ... The Bulldogs offensive & defensive line will take a hit with 'experience' only ... Not size and strength. Ive seen a couple of the boys (at hoops games) who played enough last season to earn varsity letters and they ARE GETTING PRETTY BIG ALREADY ... and we still have 6 months of lifting until the season starts.

The biggest thing Ryan Adams (who played D-1 college football and learned how to weightlift & train from a physical fitness/professional trainer) did was adopt and incorporate a BIGGER/STRONGER/FASTER weightlifting routine & mentality that has been proven to pay-off already .... I don't think last years (9-1) team accomplishes what they did without the training regiment Adams layed out for them ... Year-in-and-year-out your're going to continue to see the same kind of physical improvements from the Athens football players ... Now, they may not have a lot of pure talent and speed year after year, but when they do - you're going to see a pretty descent football team on the gridiron.
