Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
Athens has a lot of there skill players who will be back. You have Sharp who is returning at RB you have Rider who is returning at LB. A bunch of juniors who can play a lot of places. Athens will fair pretty well. a lot of kids I can name that will contribute this coming fall.
Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
Anytime you can play that many Sophomores and still make the playoffs is very impressive. With the stud running back being lost, who fills in?
How many playoff teams will come out of the Ohio this year?

Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
Im guessing based on last season and what they have comming back. I thin N-Y has a good shot at post season as does Alexander. Athens wont get enough points ,unless they go undefeated and thats not going to happen.Wellston is a year away from post season . Meigs being in D 3 will have trouble getting in the post season for some time I beleive . Vinton County same as Meigs .

Ny finished 8-2 with Losses to Ironton and Alexander(It froze over), They didn't make the playoffs though. If Dustin Young is healthy look for him to get most of the carries but you will see 3 or 4 guys split carries this year unless someone really steps up.
As far as how many teams make it out of the Ohio this year, that is really hard to say.
NY should make the playoffs and with the team they have coming in they should win a couple games.
Athens upgraded there schedule, but lost there O and D lines They also play in Region 7 which is one of the 3 toughest in the state year in and year out.
Alexander should be pretty good again this year. I don't see them beating NY at Ny this year though. They have a shot. 8-2 I think they could get in
Meigs is kind of a wild card, They had a few key guys get hurt and they struggled early last year. I think they finished 5-5, but they really were better than that.
Wellston has a new coach and a new system so I don't see them finishing better than 3rd so they would be a real long shot for the playoffs. I think they are on there way back though.
Vinton County has a new coach and another new system and I think they are a few years away from contending for the TVC-Ohio let alone the playoffs.
Meigs or Wellston will be the surprise team this year. One of them is really going to get going at some point and then all predictions are out the window.
Thats just my uneducated opinion.

My bad O&B ,You are correct. I still say they will have trouble . After last year I thought they underachieved,,Just my opinion.
Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
boiler i agree meigs underachieved based on what was expected. if you look at it they played a tough opening schedule, got clobbered lost narrowly and the kids tanked. if they had beat fairland, coal grove or nelsonville ( all close games) would we still think meigs underachieved? probably not. also they would have probably made the playoffs and considering how well coal grove did, may have won 1. i was at that game, well all of them, it wasn't over until the end. same with fairland and if smith scores instead of fumbles, in the 3rd and meigs holds nelsonville they win that 1. meigs finishes 8-2 with loses to d2 schools and are in. what will they be this year? depends on which team shows up. my bet is they will be tough. physically they are stronger. the attitude will be better. lets play!

Good attidude fastech, I have always respected your coach . He is a great person and coach . I think you are right a break here or there and your season would have been different. Trust me Wellston knows all about a tough non-league schedule we do it every year. I wish you guys good luck this season it should be a good battle in the Ohio.

Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
I think its interesting that while NY leads the poll for most likely to win the TVC Ohio, the percentage of voters who think NY will win the league is only 38%. Yet, statistically, NY has won the league nearly 50% of the time dating back to the beginning of the league. Of the 40 years of league championships dating back to 1970, NY has won or shared the title 19 of 40 years. Had it not been for the '07 forfeit to Wellston because of the ineligible freshman used late in the game, it would be an even 20 league championships in 40 years for a 50% average of winning the league title.
Years NY won/shared the TVC title (19):
'73, '75, '76, '78, '79, '81, '82, '90, '92, '93, '94, '97, '00, '03, '04, '05, '06, '08, '09
Years NY did not win the TVC title (21):
'70, '71, '72, '74, '77, '80, '83, '84, '85, '86, '87, '88, '89, '91, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '07
Since 1992, when many seniors in high school were born, NY has only had 7 years of those seniors lives that the Buckeyes did not win the league in football, having won the league in the other 11 years.
Of the 21 years NY did not win the league in football, Belpre won the league in 10 of those years, and Belpre also shared the title with NY twice. And now Belpre is no longer a league game for NY for the first time ever.
League championships have been slim pickens for the rest of the TVC Ohio schools, and many of those were co-championships with someone else...
Alexander - '74 (co-championship)
Athens - '09 (co-championship)
Meigs - '86, '87 (co-championship), '96 (co-championship), '98
Vinton County - '90 (co-championship), '91, '95, '96 (co-championship), '99
Wellston - '01, '02

Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
Thats all in the past fellas. I personally liked the 2001-02 seasons. My son was on those teams very good memories. I like the direction wellston is headed in . The coach is a former player and is in tune with the kids. The staff he has put together is a good one . They are young but very knowledgeable of the game. The Rockets will be physical and fundamentle. Teams will know they have been in a battle this year. Wellston has some talented skill players, some experience on the line. This will not be the biggest Wellston team ever in terms of size. Strength and quickness will be a plus this season. The Rockets will have big backs this year three of them 200 plus pounds. The fastes kid in the TVC ( according to the results of the TVC Track meet ) in J. Prater. If these kids can learn this new offensive scheme and limit turnovers they will be very competitive. Defensively I think they will be as good as any in the league. There is 90 some days left until game one ,I for one cant wait . I'm excited for a new era and new memories. I see Wellston getting back to thos late 90's and early decade teams .Physical quick slobberknocking teams.
GO ROCKETS!!!!

Re: TVC-Ohio 2010
The best NY team on that list provided by Orange & Brown was the 1992 Buckeyes ... Well, the argument could definitely be made for the '81 State Championship team - but playing/qualifying for the State playoffs in 1981 was a little less challenging than it was in 1992 ... In '81 - you played 2 games and if you won - you found yourself in Canton or Massilon the following week.
Switching to the '8-team qualifying format' for each region really changed the dynamics for a team attempting to make a successful playoff run ... As opposed to just the top 4 making it - allowing 8 teams really opened the flood gates for good teams (that play in super tough conferences) to make the playoffs - and teams like Nelsonville-York, Ironton, etc..etc.. have felt the consequencers ever since ... The 1981 team didn't have to face a (6-4) Columbus DeSales in the 1st round - or get by a (7-3) Columbus Academy ... Sure they had to beat a couple of good teams to get to the finals (one being Wheelersburg), but the path would have been much tougher had they faced off with a DeSales or a Watterson in week 11.
As for the 1992 team that went (10-0) - with non-league shellackings over Athens and Logan - they were very unfortunate when it came to the quality of other teams in the Region that year ... They had to square off against one of the Ironton Fighting Tigers best teams in school history led by Ohio State bound running-back Jermon Jackson ... The 'Bucks gave 'em a heckuva game in '92 but came up short ... But as far as overall talent amongst the starters on offense & defense - I would pit them against the '81 team and actually give them a pretty good chance at winning ... I'm sure Bishop & his teamates will disagree, but acording to a lot of my old pals that played for the 'Bucks in '92 - they think they were the best all time at NY ... lol

Boilermaker, I saw your post about Prater being the fastest in the TVC. It depends on what meet you went to. Praters personal best is 11.3, which I think is great. Dixon of Athens best was 11.07.

Just like we know the "real TVC Ohio" champions wouldn't and couldn't be the SEOAL champions and so forth.
