I'm trying to figure out what school and field boilermaker is going to in Buchtel? I don't know of any school or football field in Buchtel.

If you work at Nelsonville-York, you pay Nelsonville City Income Tax. If you go to a ballgame and break the law, you will be arrested by Nelsonville City Police.

The address of NYHS is One Buckeye Drive, Nelsonville, OH 45764. Buchtel's zip code is 45716.

We have: "The Plains Athens", "McArthur Vinton County", "Albany Alexander", etc. etc. etc......but have you ever once seen "Buchtel Nelsonville-York" printed anywhere by the OHSAA? I didn't think so.

I want to know what boilermaker is smoking to make him see schools and football fields in the Buchtel Village Limits, because I sure would like to try whatever it is he is smoking! :122245 :122245 :122245

All I know is when I go to a Nelsonville game ,to get to the stadium I drive into Buchtel and there it is the stadium and school. The sighn that reads Buchtel is lined up with the endzone of the stadium. As for the address well I dont know ,what I do know is that the school and stadium are inside the sighns that read Buchtel.
Some of you guys from Buchtel/York/Nelsonville need to lighten up you are all consolidated so share in the names and the love.

Look at the upper right hand corner of the corporation limits of Nelsonville in this map. :)

Looks pretty convincing to me Boiler.

Something I have always wondered though. Why did Buchtel-York put their football field and school building inside the Nelsonville city limits?

I think Justin Roush was as good as any of them . He had a good combination of speed and power. He was fun to watch both at Meigs and Ohio U.

O&B , I think everyone knows that Nelsonville is York and plays in Buchtel. :122249

Back when the original York High School was built around 1960, the school property was in unincorporated land in York Township. The address was always Nelsonville though, because the Nelsonville post office serves all of York Township except what is in Buchtel Village. York High School served everything outside the City Limits though, so the land at that time was a part of the York District.

Nelsonville annexed just under 100 acres of land from the old city limits at Sylvania Avenue to the school complex at the time the new elementary school was built in '97. At that time, Nelsonville agreed to extend sewer service to the school complex, which was part of the annexation agreement, along with police and fire protection (Nelsonville already had provided water service to the school since the high school was originally constructed).

The school always had a Nelsonville address though, even dating back to when it was originally built several years before the consolidation, because it was unincorporated land back then, which defaulted to the Nelsonville Post Office.

Had Nelsonville not annexed the school, no school building in the district would have been in the city limits for the first time ever. Now that the school will be one complex this fall, every school building in the NY district will be in the city limits for the first time ever.

Someone needs to move a sighn then. Drive there and you will see a sighn "Buchtel " Look left at that sighn and you will see it is lined up with the endzone of the stadium. I have never gone to the other side of the Buchtel to see where it ends . Either the sighns are wrong or you map is , I hope it is the map . Nothing seems to fire you guys up more than saying Buchtel....LOL......Bishtakes know that I am just trying to fire you guys up ,,,,,,and it worked AGAIN......LOL

O&B We have beat you guys so it isnt cant, it may be difficult but not imposssible . I think we will get you guys this year ,but time will tell.

boilermaker, the sign isn't wrong. Buchtel Corp. does start at that point.....ON STATE ROUTE 78. That is the village limits ONLY on State Route 78. The school complex is not on State Route 78. So driving to the school from State Route 78, you do go from Nelsonville to Buchtel and then as soon as you turn onto 12th Street and turn into the school property, you are back in Nelsonville again. Refer to the Nelsonville map above for reference on the map below. Nelsonville in purple, Buchtel in beige. Notice the St Rt 78 placement. Maybe this makes it less confusing:

Also IF and I am saying if you are compareing Gail to Charles Woodson in any way you are Way out there in Alices wonderland.

I didn't say he was as good as Charles Woodson, just had similar stats. But since Gail did not play after HS we'll never know how good he could have been. I know Cosgrove from Logan played well at OU and Gail IMO was much better than him. Who cares where the field is... the school district is Nelsonville-York and everyone in the Nelsonville, Buchtel, Carbon Hill, Murray City, and surrounding areas are all part of the Buckeye family now so it's all Buckeye Country to me! Go Bucks!

boilermaker, I agree about Mr Woodson some what. I saw this post and I can't speak about the Mr Gail, as far as actually playing against him, but I had first hand experience playing against Mr Woodson, and bruises for weeks afterwords. I know that we both played in a bye gone era, as the kids today. I had never have anyone hit me as hard as he did, and I was not small person, in my entire life. And that was with me having a running start!! He was power and finesse, and speed to burn. I have watched a lot of good players over the years from Nelsonville. It would be real hard to say who was the best They were all special in their own unique way. That was what made them special. We never was able to beat them in my career. But the Vikings have over the years, but they still have a huge won vs loss record against us. So like I said, I only played against one of their many talented and gifted players. I did not mean to exclude the rest of their team, as they were also very good. I have watched Mr Gail play, and he was a horse in his own right. I am glad I am not the one who has to say the best running back from Nelsonville. The list you would have to choose from is way to long for me to pick just one. Maybe the top 10, and then not in any order to who was the best. Wellston has had some excellent backs and players over the years as well. The same can be said for the Vikings. It would be hard to pick just one. Again, the era when they played and other variables would make it hard for anyone to pick the best from their schools. I have been fortunate to have seen awesome players over the years from all the schools in Southern Ohio. I expect to see the next generation of great ones, play again on the Football Fields with this upcoming season. I can almost hear the refs blowing the whistle now, and half of the people disagree vehemently. LOL Everyone get out and support all the great athletics coming to you this year. They all are great players to me. This is just my opinion, and you what they say about opinions........Thanks 1974(Ancient) VC Viking Good Luck to All the TVC Teams

74Viking,

They are talking about Brad Woodson (All-TVC 1980 & 1981) and the Woodson you played against was Bill (All-TVC 1971 & 1972 & 1973). You missed out on beating him up in 1973 because of the school strike. LOL

Thanks. You are right. But I think that is was me that missed getting beat up.LOL He sure was an excellent runner. I think if my memory is right, that Brad was Bill's younger brother, and he was a great runner too. You know how it is when you get old, your memory usually the first to go. :122246 Took too many blows to the noggin I guess. That year of the school strike sure was awful for everyone, students, teachers, administrators, and everyone else involved in that mess. A shame all around. Would not wish that fiasco on anyone. That I can still remember just like yesterday :122247 :122247

I know the Gail kid was something special , a great High School back. I was always impressed with him . Brad Woodson was a beast with speed though ,he could run over you or around you. Woodson also had to share the ball with another good back in his years ,the coaches son Dave Jr. If Woodson would have been the "GO TO" guy the others would probably still be chasing his records.

Boiler,

N-York also had a really good linebacker, Brian Mays who was on that team with Woodson and Boston. Woodson was a junior when Boston was a senior, so he did have his senior year by himself, except Mays and Bishop were both there also.

Boston Sr. certainly had a run of exceptional athletes to work with and he did a good job with them.

Well the one Woodson that was mentioned was Charles Woodson... Brad was a beast and I know his brother Bill really well! I am not sure of Brad's work ethic, under Boston, Sr. I am sure it was great. Gail got used to just showing up and dominating opponents at times. Gail also had to share the ball some with guys like: Nungester, Rosser, Collins, Stalder to name a few! I think one thing that might separate Gail from the rest was the punt returns. If he caught it and had any kind of blocking he was taking it to the house. I am a little biased because I grew up watching him play, but like someone said this is no disrespect to anyone else. Gail was the man in my book. With the right Guidance I think he may have played in some big time college games and MAYBE on Sundays?
