The matchups are rotated every year so you're not playing the same team in the semis that you did the prior year. It has nothing to do with who may be better than someone else.

Not true, the last three years Piketon opened up with '06-07 Western; '07-08 Eastern; '08-09 Western.

Piketon will have their hands full without Southworth, he is averaging a "double-double" and their best defender...that will be huge to overcome.

With Eastern and Western playing in the same league it doen't make sense to play open round of the classic.
They rotate who Piketon and Waverly play.

Looking forward to a good holiday classic once again. I can see the first game going down to the wire. Eatern will have to bring their A game and turn up the defensive pressure if they want to pull of the upset. As for Piketon, it will be hard to replace southworth. Everyone will have to crash the glass a little more to make up for his ability to rebound the basketball. If Brush gets in foul trouble, do they have any other big men to bring off the bench?

For Waverly and Western I see Waverly taking this one pretty easily. Around 15 or so. If some players from Western get hot though, it could be a different story.

This one has all the making to be another classic. Not really one dominant team that is suppose to win it all. I'll reserve my comments on the second night until we find out whose playing in it.

Really, Have you forgotten about Piketon's trip to the final four last year??? Sounds to me like they will be the heavy favorite again this year. The have the best team and the best player of all 4 teams in Evan Legg. Can't wait to see the slugfest between Waverly and Piketon in the championship game. The SOC1 is way down this year, so I don't even see the first two games being competitive. Waverly should beat Western by 20+ and Piketon will run all over Eastern by about 30. I have Eastern over Western in the consolation game, then the Championship game will be close up till the 4th. Piketon will pull away at that point and win by 12. Will be kinda boring the first night, but the second night we'll be in for two exciting games.

I too have been told Eastern and Western will not meet in the opening round as the already play each other twice during the regular season.

Nothing comes "easily" in this tournament. Never has, never will.

Streaking,

I think maybe you should watch some of the SOC1 schools before you make goofy comments like that. Oak Hill barely beat Symmes Valley (SOC1) and Eastern beat Minford (several other SOC1 schools have victories over SOC2 schools this season). Eastern will give Piketon all they want...besides didn't an average Huntington squad already beat Piketon?

I just call it like I see it Eaglesnest. You can't honestly tell me that you believe eastern can beat piketon. Isn't Clay supposedly the best team in the SOC1 and predicted to win it. Don't they only have one win. That tells me just how down the league is. I agree with Bengalfan76 that huntington would probably win the SOC1 going away if they were in it. The SVC is a tough league. You can't expect the Streaks to go undefeated.

The SVC and SOC should do a challenge at the beginning of the season. In the weekend prior to the SVC opening up, they should have a SVC-SOC Challenge, similar to the Big Ten-ACC in college hoops. All 8 SVC teams VS 8 of the SOC schools, 2 days, neutral site. Would be great for the teams and fans in the area.

I agree, Tigers24, I hope he is hungry!

Say what you want about Legg, but I think there may be a few players on Waverly's roster who might disagree with you? I'm not going to sit on here and say so and so is better than whoever, but like Tigers24 said, good bulletin board material, and once again, I hope your hungry.

Eastern over Piketon in game 1.
Waverly over Western in game 2.

Piketon takes 3rd place over Western in the consolation game.
Waverly wins a nail biter over Eastern in the Championship game.

All-Tourney Team
Johnston-Waverly
Legg-Piketon
Martin-Waverly
Thornsberry-Eastern
____________-Western

Jimmy The Greek,
Yes it is true. They do rotate it so you're not playing the same team in the semi's as you did the year before. You proved that by posting the rotation the past 3 years.
As Bengalfan76 and toast said, Western and Eastern will not play in the semis because they play each other twice already. They try to avoid Eastern and Western playing in the classic unless it works out that way for day 2.

Slickrick301, I am not picking a winner, but I have a really hard time believing that Eastern can bring the D pressure Mifflin did. They, at one point, swapped five for five. It took a last second shot to beat the streaks....

Sports 101- This is always a great tournament, great environment, and a awesome 2 days of basketball. Throw the records OUT THE DOOR, throw the so called "favorite" title off of whatever team it should be given to, ANYTHING can happen in this tournament.
