Ya I agree they still are! And I think playing the big schedule like they have early will help at tourney time!
Re: Any new thoughts about who's best in the OVC?
Thats the good thing about playing a tough non leage schedule it doesnt keep you from making the playoffs in Basketball.
Re: Any new thoughts about who's best in the OVC?
The good thing is when you win those tough games. Losing does not make you any tougher.
Re: Any new thoughts about who's best in the OVC?
avalanche if losing the games doesnt help then why not just play teams you think you will beat and hope they give you a close game then that will make you better.Your hatred for the new Chesapeake coach shows thru on every post.Norm couldnt get it done at the peake so he bailed and went to a loaded team at Oak Hill they would have won the state with or without him.Maybe you were one of the norm towel holders that thought you should have had the coaching job when your Hero left.

Losing to tough teams shows you what you need to work on to do well in the postseason. Of course, winning is much better, but losing isn't the end of the world.
Re: Any new thoughts about who's best in the OVC?
I have no hatred for anyone . I make objective posts about what I observe. You are a new poster and from the looks of it a new Chesapeake supporter or your child plays on the team now.
I have stated more then once that I think coach Davis is a good coach, but I am not going to settle for good. When his team plays well I give him and his team the praise they deserve. When the team losses then that has to be on someone.
I take a realistic approach when it comes to my opinions. I have seen all but one game this season so I like to think that the opinion I draw upon is one of objectivity.
It is obvious, however, that you have a problem with Norm for whatever reason.
Norm Persin did not win 500-600 games because he could not get it done. Norm Persin was not named coach of the year several times because he could not get it done. Norm did not win 11 straight OVC titles because he could not get it done. The man is not a Hall of Famer because he could not get it done. His schedule included teams like Scott County (nationally ranked), Runne Meade, Ontario (nationall ranked), and St. Francis, NJ (nationaly ranked). Please do not try and sell me on how difficult Chesapapeake’s schedule is now.
As for your very not so well spoken comment about him skipping town, you obviously have no connection to him. The man drove an hour plus everyday to work while serving as a teacher, basketball coach, and AD. He was leaving his house at 5am and then not arriving home until midnight most nights. If that is what you are referring to as bailing then yes after twenty some odd years he bailed on that lifestyle. I travel 20 minutes to work and 20 minutes home, and there are nights I would rather just stay at the hospital then turn around and go home after a 12 hour day.
Norm took over an Oak Hill program that was awful. They won a game or two the year before he took that program over. He then proceeded to lead an average team to the regional semi-finals. That team would have won the state championship without him? Is that the best logic you can come up with? If you are going to come on here and be the defender of coach Davis maybe you can use better logic then what you have been using. Your opinions are rarely backed up with anything with substance or fact.
I work at a hospital, so unless they can work around my 12 hour shifts then I do not think I was ever a serious candidate for the job. I appreciate what coach Persin gave to this community and appreciate what I learned from him. I know that Michael Jordan himself trusts him enough to run his camp, as do the people at Nike and the 5-Star camps. He has ran the Rick Pitino and Tuby Smith Camps as well as the Notre Dame camp. His resume speaks for its self.

for the record Chesapeake is still head and shoulders above everyone else.
Re: Any new thoughts about who's best in the OVC?
Now, how many times have you Norm critix driven from Oak Hill to Peake and back in one day? How many times have you been stuck behind some slowpoke idiot on Rte. 93 where you have nowhere to pass? How many times have you negotiated those 30 miles of curves until you reach the 4-lane for the final 18 miles to Peake?
Norm is from Oak Hill, still lives there. The coaching job at OHHS is his dream job. And some wonder why he has not taken a college coach's job. He once told me that a coach must find what level he coaches best. He said he couldn't be a successful college coach nor a middle school coach, that HS was his level of expertise.
Norm is Norm and Davis is Davis. Let us see how the season plays out before we start our analyses of the various coaches.

I think if the kid at South Point is eligible to play, that January 8th game at South Point is going to be the clincher as to who wins the OVC. Without him Chesapeake wins hands down. He is a matchup problem at 6 foot whatever he is and can shoot the three and take it to the hole. He led them in the 4th qtr last year to upset the peake with something like 8 points in the last crucial 2 minutes. We'll see tho.
