Im just saying that every year jackson athletes have to hear the same arguement everytime and its beginning to become a very old topic....... And why is it any of Logan's business who we play in non conference so why dont you just drop it!!!

Wheelersburg, Ironton, Ports. West ?? 40 minutes from Jackson ??

Instead, Vinton Co., Waverly, Wellston ?? Lie to yourself all you want. Just don't expect the rest of Ohio to buy your "excuses". Those are all schools your size or smaller. The difference is they aren't sure wins. Jackson isn't competitve for lots of reasons , but this is a big reason why.

Logan takes risks in playing bigger, tougher schools and is rewarded.

paladin is right. also i think ghs and good ole 2old has mentioned it also. the seoal doesn't always prep a team for state playoffs. so your ad's and coaching staffs should be beefing that schedule up to prep your teams for post season play. an 8-2, 7-3 record is going to barely get you in the playoffs if your wasting your non-league schedule on teams you played in the leather helmet days. unless you play better teams that are playoff regulers your going to get cruched everytime you play outside of seo. look that ironton, they schedule up every year and they have had outstanding post season play over the years, only keeping a few long time rivials on there schedule.

I agree as well...A team that wants to win a state championship has to schedule the bigger, better teams reguardless of where they mite be located. I also think that for most teams in SEO a league title and a playoff birth with a win or possibly 2 is basically what they set out to accomplish. Many teams just want to make the playoffs period. I also feel like Jackson would much rather have a PACKED Alumni Stadium in week 1, than schedule up.

i agree dundee. NOT BASHING ATHENS OR THE TVC but look at them D2 almost D3. couldn't compete regulary in the SEOAL anymore. they where losing $$ at the gates on friday nites. they unlike some of other teams in the SEOAL started scheduling up in the late 90's, early 00's. therefor they rarely beat those teams. instead of taking the long road and scheduling up like the others. they moved to the TVC. smaller schools, i think 3 or 4 of which are in athens co. did they turn around the football program??? depends on how you look at it. are they winning? yes. are the gates bigger? yes. but, at what long term price? the 2nd year in the TVC 9-1 and no playoffs. b/c they're schedule isn't full of teams that are smaller or local. outside of a trip to a mediocr bloom carol they played nobody that could help them with playoff points or prep them for post season play. if athens had made the playoffs they would have been beaten badly. just not athens wasn't in this boat alone this year da-ville had the same problem. sort of, teams they scheduled all had really bad years. scheduling outside of SEO can be a crap shot also. when the contracts to play a team are signed and when they play are not the same year. look at logan and hammy. hammy was coached by col desale great bob jacoby. logan has beaten them bad for 2 yrs now.
jackson has a awesome stadium. they have to schedule up. they can keep a few old time rivials but they need to look else where for the rest of the schedule. the guys in ironton are right about 1 thing the more your team makes the playoff with some sucess the more you want them to win it all.

gahs4ever wrote:I havent talked to anyone in admin at Chillicothe, but Im wondering out loud if a big reason for the decline in enrollment was because of the failure to pass school levies several years ago prompting CHS to eliminate all spring sports ine year. You can imagine th rush to the county when this happened, and as I understand it, Unioto and Zane Trace were the primary beneficiaries.

Two levies were finally passed and I would think this would stop the bleeding. Maybe not.

Not exactly. The City of Chillicothe is land locked by county school districts. The community is getting older. New housing projects are being built in the County districts. Many younger couples are moving to the county schools and taking the kids with them.

Paladin, you wrote that logan plays bigger and tougher schools. They do play better ball team schools,
But they don't play anyone any bigger. Acording to their schedule all the teams logan plays are d-2 or
smaller.

I'm not bashing the TVC either but what you see is what you get. You have a lot of small teams playing other small teams. Look at it like this, Crooksville who is D-5 plays an MVL schedule made up of one D-4, a lot of D-3's & a D-2. In 2007 they got last place in the MVL and went 1-9. Their one win was over TVC Champ Nelsonville-York.

You get better when you play better teams. That is why Sheridan & Logan are good, year in & year out.

Logan will need to continue to play D-I & II non-league games, both to prep for the league & the playoffs. And weak teams , such as D-II Hamilton Twp need to be replaced with tougher schools. Should Jackson and the rest of SEO choose to continue to play weaker ( or smaller) non-league games, that will have to be their choice and accept the limitations that places on their athletics.
