One scheduling fact I like to bring up is how many non-conference wins the SOC 1 schools combine for during the season. Last year, at the time of the drawing I think the number of non-conference wins for the SOC 1 was like 7 or 8. Maybe Im off but I think they have more than that all ready this year. I might look into this number and repost later. And, I understand that these teams play a 14 game league schedule. So that leaves 6 non-league games times 8 teams = 48 non-conference games. I would bet that most years the non-league record looks something like this 10 Wins/38 Losses.

The SOC1 is still the weakest conference in SEO though.

Without a doubt!

It is strange that the SOC2 is one of the strongest and SOC1 is the weakest. I would think that they would want to balance out the talent alittle.

I think the SOC1 schools are just so small as far as student numbers go that they have a hard time competing with schools twice their size. I could be way off but I would say that the D4 schools in the SHL have a few more students than the Soc 1? Sparky would probably be knowledgeable about the school size issue.

SHL small schools are generally a little bigger than the SOC small schools...some of the SOC smaller ones are some of the smallest D4 schools in the district...the SHL has many average to larger D4 schools...that all play teh medium size D3 schools and some D2 schools....Hillsboro, Greenfield, Washington CH, Miami Trace and such.

symmes valley 108 peebles 147

notre dame 36

i did not realize that the soc 1 schools were that small. i am surprised some of them haven't been consolidated. is notre dame the only private school? how many miles apart are east and new boston?

Notre Dame is the only private school in the Southern Ohio Conference.

New Boston Glenwood and Sciotoville East High Schools are less than two miles apart.

What is the purpose of having this many schools in one area? I would think that they would have wanted to consolidate long ago.

The Sciotoville Community is a part of the City of Portsmouth. Sciotoville East Community School is just that...........a Community School. It broke away from the Portsmouth City Schools several years ago. New Boston Glenwood is considered a county school even though it is within the Village Limits of New Boston. There was a plan to consolidate the Clay and New Boston Schools a few years back and it all fell through. There are new schools in the immediate plans for both Clay and New Boston.

Those small areas are very stubborn in giving up their schools....it's like that everywhere.

But it seems kind of ridiculous that say Glenwood(38 boys in the school) and Clay(54) would not consolidate. What is the point of paying for two seperate facilities when they are practically right beside each other anyway?

I completely agree with you.....but I teach in one of those districts listed above by sparky and it is over 40 miles wide and the high school is just a few miles from one end of it. Many kids in our district can't play sports due to their parents can't afford to drive an hour round trip to pick their kids up everyday......we had a levy years back and ended up only getting a new elementary school in the center of the district...the little areas with old high schools/elementary schools wouldn't support what was best for everyone...but just themselves.

After South Webster's win last night at Wheelersburg they are 11-2 and 8-2 in SOC 2.

They have 4 games scheduled next week and would be favored in 3 of them. Should be 14-3 or close to it at the draw.

Does anyone have Green's schedule for next week? I know they play at Webster on Tuesday.

Green is at Clay 2/12, hosts Peebles 2/15, hosts Rock Hill 2/16, at Symmes Valley 2/17 and hosts Eastern Pike 2/19. This info came from the SOC/Scioto County Area Season Schedule and Standings topic.

if whiteoak ever consolidated some of their kids would be closer to lynchburg, eastern brown, north adams, peebles, greenfield, hillsboro, and paint valley than they are to their home high school now.
ironman,
these kids that live a long way away from the high school couldn't they attend the above mentioned schools on open enrollment?

I wish that I had the time to hunt and peck on this phone well enough to elaborate on the many misconceptions many people have about the tournament draw. In short, voting is not ideal, but has proven to be the best situation yet. In some other states they blind draw prior to the season to map out the tournament trail, the pill method proved to be worse. Many other options have been explored.

Currently coaches are forced to face each other and vote their conscience. They are ranking teams based on who is better, but also who they match-up better against. As for the collusion theory, many of the coaches know very little about teams they don't play, since they are so focused on the teams they coach and the ones they do play.
Then again I do love a good conspiracy theory so who am I to break this one up.
