If Northwest puts together 4 quarters, they can beat many quality teams. But, they have yet to do just that. Indians by 10.

Is this game still a go for tonight? With no other games in the area I may swing by and catch it. Have not got a chance to see Valley yet, but I do remember them from last season and they should be very good.

Last I heard it went into overtime tied at 58 and Hank Leslie just scored his 1,000th career point.

Anyone have a final on this one?

Valley won 67-65 in a hard fought game, no complaints from the game perspective teams evenly skilled with one coming out on top, getting the shots they needed and yates was causing nightmares for NW...likewise Leslie was for Valley, in fact Leslie dropped in 37 tn and he scored his 1,000 point....granted the game was close to an end and a tight game, but leslie had to make 2 free throws and we we're going to honor him for a second....and the valley coach villinger refused to let a kid be honored for a rare accomplishment that very few people ever get to celebrate, only 1 other in northwest history....having said that my view on that excuse of a man is simply this.....Villinger is the biggest joke of human life and space I have ever seen...I sincerely wish him the worst in everything in life and that is more then he will ever deserve!

Valley 67, Northwest 65 in OT

According to official scorer, Blake Yates led Valley with 33 points. Hank Leslie led Northwest with 31 points, scoring his 1,000th in the process.

See tomorrow's Portsmouth Daily Times for more information.

Fantastic game. Yates is a monster.

Side note: congrats to Hank on 1000th point.

2nd Side note: Congrats to Valley coach for taking the top spot on my Biggest Douche in the Universe list. You'll probably want to celebrate this great honor with your family. OH WAIT i'm not gonna let you. It hurts doesnt it when you work so hard for something and then some idiot not let you share this momentous occasion with those close with you.

1 more Side Note: I'm aware i called myself an idiot.

Congrats to Hank! Why did Northwest not honor Hank at all? They could have at least announced that he had just scored 1000 points. They didnt have to stop the game. They could have done something between the regulation and overtime, but they didnt. Northwest is as much at fault as Coach Villinger. I have mixed feelings on the decision. It was a close game. Northwest went up by two points with Hank's free throws. There was only 14 seconds left in the game and to stop the game with 14 seconds and a 2 point lead could have changed the momentum of the game. I dont know that I would have stopped the game, but they could have said something on the loud speaker. They could have waited 14 seconds to do their presentation. And I dont think that Coach Villinger would have been opposed to that. But instead, Nortwest was soo mad that they did nothing at all.

Coach Villinger is a great guy and is really all about the kids. I am sure that he was not trying to take anything away from Hank. If you all knew him, you would know. It is a tough call under the circumstances that were in place. Just my opinion.

You can try to justify this any way you want, the fact remains that a high school kid's major accomplishment was put on the back burner due to a coach not wanting to stop the game for a few seconds. The argument that this would have somehow shifted momentum is proposterous. Both teams would have had to deal with the same circumstance. If anything, I would think it would have been a bigger distraction for Northwest's kids than Valley's. Poor judgement in this situation.

There are some things more important than winning a game (which I don't think 30 seconds would have hurt) it basically would have been a free time out.....Valley will go on to win plenty more games but you can only be honored for 1,000 points once!

and as for just announcing he scored 1,000 points, that would simply be an insult to Hank who I have been a close friend to for a very long time and with all the hard work he has put in, I feel he deserved a little more respect then that....this is a major accomplishment that was downplayed by one man's arrogance

and also NW was not allowed to honor Hank between regulation and OT because if both coaches do not agree then NW would have gotten a technical..and Villinger had already told the officials he did not agree to stopping the game for anything

A big congrats to Hank Leslie on this milestone.1,000 points is very impressive.I have watched the kid play several times and was very impressed.Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I dont know the whole story and was not there but it sounds like very poor sportsmanship by Coach Villinger...That is sad as Leslie deserved to be recognized for this achievement.

Does Villinger (You notice I didn't use the word Coach) realize he may have a kid in this situation soon? Yates is already one of the best players around. He should surpass the 1,000 point mark easily. How would he and his family, as well as the Valley fans, feel if he was treated with so much disrespect from another coach. Northwest tried to honor Leslie like every other athlete that hits the impressive 1,000 point club should be. The officials wanted to do the right thing also. But, the Valley staff was too ignorant to realize this is a game of young kids. It should be about the kids. They are also too ignorant to realize this would have given them a free timeout to set up a play. There is no place in high school sports for idiots like Villinger.
On a side not, it was a heck of a game. Both teams played a hard, clean game. Hank Leslie, I congratulate you on a great accomplishment. You have worked hard for and deserve your moment.
