Andrew Seaman and Nate Stephens from Peebles are both excellent defenders.

Piketon's entire team plays good defense. Southworth and Brush can stop almost anyone in the post and Legg forces the tempo by turning quick thefts into easy fast breaks. I suppose Legg is the player you are refering to, if not I can see almost all of their gaurds fitting this description.

Dont forget about Jared Vulgamore and Jamie Helton from piketon, Jared is a lock down defender as is Helton. When one of them is in they guard the scorer..

I think McVey may be the best "one on one" defender in the area.

My vote is split. Mcvey-Eastern Johnston-Waverly, Altough i don't think either of there teams are playing consistent Team Defense as they could.

Welcome to southeasternohiopreps, SOCFAN1430. Interesting number. Many thought mine was the year of graduation (2010). That couldn't have neen further from the truth, haha (30 years).
Speaking of 30 years, this is the 30th anniversary of the Regional Championship game between Waverly and Portsmouth (1980). Waverly has not been back there since. 1 point away from the final 4. I hear talk of trying to get all the players back at one of our home games this year. That would be cool! The 2010 version of the Waverly Tigers have the potential to make the same kind of tournament run. The 1980 squad finished the tough regular season (SEOAL) at 12-8 before making their awesome tourny run which including knocking off more than one highly ranked oppponent.
BACK TO THE TOPIC:
Roback & Remy have to be at the top of the Waverly defense, Remy because of his steals. Malone is a defensive animal and Johnston is playing pretty good D as well. Waverly is 6-1 right now mainly because of their DEFENSE. They shut down key players for Chesapeake, Valley, Burg, & Piketon (4 very good wins).

Tre Underwood for Portsmouth is one of the best post defenders bar none. PHS's best perimiter defender is Wayne Evans but that's only because Forrest Johnson is a lil too aggressive sometimes. But for my money if we had one possession for all the marbles, I'm putting Fo on your best scorer.
Re: Top defensive players in the Area
Of course sophmore Malik London and Michael Turner from Chillicothe...

Re: Top defensive players in the Area
Kevin Malone is the best defender in the SOC II & probably around southern Ohio. He is as fast & as strong as anyone around. Most kids just can't handle him, when he is in your face. The Legg kid from Piketon couldn't & he is probably the second best guard around behind Johnston.
