Most of us agree that all 3 county schools need better football facilities...... But will that make our football programs that much better????? It hasn't worked in Basketball at GAHS..... Over the last 20 years or so GAHS has had some pretty good teams.. GAHS can blame no one but themselves for our current problems... We have no weightroom or locker rooms for football at our new school. I have talked to a lot of voters who claim they still would have voted for the levy if the football stadium would have been included.... That's how Logan financed there stadium... I wish I could say better times are ahead for GAHS...... But I can't.........

I was thinking that the GA track was about 350... but that's immaterial.

Like somebody said, track (especially the girls at GA) has been the best sport in Gallia County for a LONG time... again, immaterial.

I would love to see a TOTAL COMMITMENT to excellence in football as a way to get things going. The coaches at the three Gallia County schools are certainly committed, and many of their players are, but they need MORE.

They need more commitment from more players, parents, boosters and administrators to get things done.

Gallia County Football could be great, if people would give it a chance.

Very well said. I truly believe that football around here can be huge, but it will take more effort from everyone involved.

South Gallia is a tiny rural school just like Lawrence County's Symmes Valley. They are going to be good some years and bad some years just because small school like these often have sporadic levels of talent.
GAHS4ever clearly answered the question in his post, IMO.

you are onto something here! See there is a rule at RV that no coach is allowed to go ask a player to play any sport?? Why? I have no idea. Another one of Mrs.Dr E-cough rules.
We have got a couple pretty good athletes that transferred in that are looking forward to playing football.
Student participation is the biggest problem behind the parents not backing the programs and the kids not working at all in the off season. These kids have the worst attitude towards any off season work as a whole, (not all of them) Jarred McClellan tries to push weight work and not only his sport he wants all athletes to lift, they just won't.
I do think since the new school has opened i have seen more attitude in the right direction, WE NEED THE FOOTBALL FIELD TO BE AT THE SCHOOL THIS YEAR!!
Basketball has an awesome young coach and the kids are coming out, let's hope football follows. WE need to play better defense on Friday nights that is a MUST! time will tell

This is probably a stupid question, but could the Bidwell middle school field be used for high school games?

There are problems with the Bidwell field. It seems that when it was constructed, no one consulted with the DOT regarding the setbacks from State Route 160. The State of Ohio claims that at least some part of the field is on their right-of-way. I think that the baseball fields keep them from moving the FB field away from the road. As I understand it, the intent is to build a new field where the practice field is now. I have not seen that location and cannot comment.

The news from the players is that they will be playing their games in Bidwell, at the new school, in the upcoming season.

So much of this post is wrong, mistaken, false, and untrue. Good grief. Coaches recruit kids all the time, and with the full knowledge of administration. Kids do work in the offseason. We didn't have weights in the building for a while, but now that they are here, the kids are using the crap out of them. The basketball coach you are refering to has had to resign.

Try to know what you are talking about before you talk.

Next time you folks are in Centenary, check the softball and baseball fields, the new track facilities and new tennis courts.

Despite poor weather this past month, things are looking much better. If we have a couple weeks of good weather, there's a chance all spring sports will be played at the new school this year.

Spring drills are expected to begin in three or four more weeks. If I'm not mistaken, first games, meets and matches will start following the state basketball tournament which ends on March. 27.

I know South Gallia is putting together a midget league football team. They will have two teams. 3rd/4th and 5th/6th. They are joining the big bend league in middleport. Whats good they will be no draft and if you bring friends they will play on the same team. All is welcome

Pee-Wee football is the key to being a good high school program.

The middleport league is supplying all of the equipment needed. Only thing I have to do is bring the kids. This is great for the community. So, if you know any kid that will be 3rd-6th tell them to call me.

I heard that the real problem in the county system is that Dr. E(vil) hates all sports. In fact, the following are FACTS about River Valley

-Anyone who can run the 40 in under and hour is shot. Immediately. She hates football that much.
-Coaches aren't allowed to talk. Ever. All coaching must be done telepathically.
-There is no weight room, nor can there be. In fact, a kid got expelled for telling his friend to "wait" a minute. She realizes that those are two different words, but she wanted to be sure to send a message.
-All basketballs, footballs, and even kick balls are sliced upon arrival at the building.
-One kid lost his driving privledges when he drove his Cherokee Sport on campus. Yep, that much hate.

Granted, these aren't the largest problems, but another is is that people repeat "facts" without ever checking to see what's real and what isn't, and seem to get enjoyment out badmouthing kids who are doing all they can to turn the corner and make something happen. Nobody likes losing. Nobody. I don't have the answers, but I can tell you that running down the only people who are trying to do anything, coaches and athletes, sure ain't going to get anything done.

Along the lines of wildthing's post, I too have had some doubts about Dr. Evans' reported attitude towards athletics. About 3 weeks ago I sent her an email, inquiring about her statements and positions that have been reported on this forum. She sent me a very lengthy and detailed response, the summary of which was that she, like all of us, is very concerned about the programs, has no intentions of "doing away with sports" (never did), is not head-hunting existing staff and fully understands the concerns of the communities involved.

If you have a problem, let her know. She seems to be receptive to constructive suggestions. Like wildthing said, sometimes it is helpful to find out the facts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't AEP ready to donate some equipment to the RV baseball program a couple years ago and she denied that?

And I'm pretty sure a certain individual was ready to donate a building for a weight room and it was also denied. Therefore RV has been without a weight room until just about a month ago. And the RV football staff had to move the weight room equipment themselves :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

There are two questions that I would like a good explanation
