Re: Warren Football Coach
Stop the posturing and set up's. Warren is never going to get a premier blue chip coach. Quit hiring guys who have hidden agendas and are planning to leave in four years. Look within your system. There are a few guys who have enough football playing and coaching experience to get the job done, if there are others willing to help.

Re: Warren Football Coach
What Warren doesnt need is a coach hired from the inside! No coach at this school system is qualified to be the next Head Coach. There are several items that need to be addressed both with the previous jobs that the coaches have done before, and with the whole program in general. At this level, its time to play the best athletes and no matter who played what in the so-called youth program, you need to put whomever is the best kid at the position he plays best. Regardless of what grade and who you are. A selection from someone outside the school district who can judge the talent from his own mind and have no help from 10 previous assistants. Maybe to clean out the closet except for maybe 3 former assts. would be a great way to get the program going where it needs to be!
Another interesting decision the district has to make... The sun comes out tmrw!

Re: Warren Football Coach
The last time Warren went out of the system, they hired a guy who set the program back a decade. Google his name and look at what he did after returning to Indiana. Clean house?! They barely fill the coaching positions now. I do agree that 3 former assistants need not be rehired, but you are stating the obvious. The best kids did play. The best kids will always play.
Do you honestly think that it will be possible to hire a coach outside the district AND fill 10 assistant positions with all new guys? The program is going in the right direction. They won 7 games last season. In case you haven't heard, Warren Local Schools hired one teacher last year. That was the first teaching position filled in 7 years. Tell us all how you would make room for 11 news guys.

I guess we just need a coach, leave the news to Todd Baucher and the guys at WTAP , 11 news guys probably won't do us much good

Wow, bashing warren on there coaching choices?
We didn't have a bad season last year with Pifer.
and yes Welsh and Gribble do diserve head coaching
positions. those men have done more for the program
than ever imagined. whoever they pick we will deal with it.
dosent matter who the coach is, it matters about the athletes.
see you in august ladies and genteleman.

Re: Warren Football Coach
What type of football program does Warren have? How many players are on the varsity team? Do they have a good off-season program? How are their lower levels? What is they support like in the community? How many fans show up to the games? Are the players committed to being as good as they possibly can be? Are the players willing to put in the extra hours in the weight room and doing the conditioning work in the off-season it takes to be great? Do they have that type of football committment at this school? Does this school have the potential to be a contender on a yearly basis? Thanks

Warren travels as well as anyone in Southeast Ohio.

Re: Warren Football Coach
So if they travel well what does that mean in terms of numbers of fans, home and visitors at a Warren home game, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000? What about actual numbers that travel and show up for an away game? If they have a good following why is last year their only winning seaon in a while? Thanks

It is my understanding that Warren will be conducting interviews on February 4. The position offers a coach the opportunity to lead a great group of players and join a great community.
Go Big Blue!
Whom is being interviewed? Is it fair to say that those interviewed earlier in January are not on this list?
Some of these assistants need to get off their butts and get into the weightroom for the kids. This isn't about you, it's about the kids.

NO matter who the coach is going to be really wont matter to the kids. It is all up to the kids and how much they want to win. The coach will not have an effect on the players.

Re: Warren Football Coach
But the coach WILL have an impact on getting people who aren't currently lifting to be motivated, and getting new kids into the weight room and on the team, and an impact on how much community support the program has. This is a crucial hire. Probably the most important one since Grider replaced Welsh after the '01 season...and we all know how far back THAT one set the program.
I want to see a coach with good credentials but more importantly good football knowledge and a personable attitude. I think a coach without district ties might not be such a bad idea this time.
I would think, with interviews being held tonight and two board meetings scheduled within the next two weeks, that we'll have a coach soon.

But the key players,(that are not playing another sport)ARE in the weight room. But yes it is a good idea to get a coach in there and try to get more bodies out.

More than likely he (whoever he is) will be hired @ the 2/16 board meeting.
