The triple header gave us some good games in Marietta back in December

Marietta 8 9 14 10 -- 41
Gallia.. 13 7 16 8 -- 44

In spite of Marietta getting the first basket of the game in their first trip to the new venue, the first qtr staked Gallia to a slim working margin which they nursed for the entire game. Marietta's short runs couldn't get them to more than about a one point lead, as the teams trade qtr wins by two points. Trailing 44-41 in the last minute, the Tigers had several open treys, but none would fall.

Gallipolis edges Marietta 44-41

Host Gallipolis edged Marietta 44-41 in a Southeastern Ohio Athletic League contest Friday night in the Gallia Academy High School gym at Centenary.

Gallipolis led 13-8 after one period and 20-17 during the halftime break. The Blue Devils were on top 36-31 heading in the final eight minutes.

Ethan Moore's trifecta with 7:46 left to play put GAHS 39-31 for its biggest lead of the night. However, GAHS was guilty of eight turnovers in the fourth period and that let the Tigers back in the game.

Cody Kriechbaum hit back-to-back threes to pull MHS within two, 39-37, with 7:01 left to play.

Gallipolis sophomore Bryce Amos canned a trey at the 6:25 mark to put GAHS ahead 42-37. Tyler Davis cut the deficit to 42-39 with 4:08 left, but missed a free throw.

During the final 3:19 of action, GAHS missed five front ends of one-and-ones. Jarod Golden got loose for a layup with 2:39 left on the clock and that turned out to be the game’s winning points. Marietta’s Connor Hess hit a trey at the 2:15 mark to end the game’s scoring.

Chuck Calvart led GAHS scorers with 10 points. Bryce Amos added nine and Jarod Golden seven. Jordan Cornwell and Ethan Moore each had six points for the winners.

Jottings, I enjoy your write-ups of the games, but this statement puzzled me. In my thinking, the maximum number of front ends a team can have in a half is three(7th, 8th, and 9th fouls).

Last week when Marietta played Ironton, I though I witnessed the ultimate in front end futility when in the game for Marietta five of those six 7,8,9 fouls were the one and one variety, which is pretty unusual in itself as usually at least two are in the act of shooting. Anyway, Marietta didn't score on any of the five, although the shooter did make one, but it was waved off for the shooter stepping on the line.
