Yes, I think the browns are headed in the right direction. There front office looks better and the players stepped up at the end of the season. They will be in the thick of things next year. They need to pay cribbs. I dont know what they will do about the qb problem . That will be big . Keep what they got or get a new one to bulid around.

I think the Browns could really start to turn the corner next year. They should they had some real talent towards the end of the year this year. I think they need a QB. Not just any QB but one who can step up and be a leader. I think that old Pete will keep Hasslebeck this year and draft a QB next year, and Philly has always had a love hate relationship with there QB so they will kiss and make up by April. Snead would be a good West Coast guy so he just might be the next QB drafted by the Browns. I think Anderson gets traded.

If they decide to keep Quinn or Anderson they got to get rid of the other. I think there about even as far as talent so i would get rid of Quinn and save a bunch of bucks. Neither one will be there in three years.

Anderson is owed a 9 million dollar roster bonus if he's on the team in March.

He'll be gone, Quinn is the cheaper option.

I am far from knowing anything about judging QB talent, but I would make a few observations regarding Quinn:

Check out Favre's stats his first couple of years with Atlanta. He couldnt even see the field, and yet we know how that turned out after he was traded to Green Bay. I am not suggesting that Quinn is the next Favre....hardly, but at the same time:

He has yet to play an entire 16 game season and look at who he's had to throw to; hardly a who's who of receivers. I think the jury is more out on Quinn than Anderson, who I believe was, is and always will be nothing more than an NFL backup; regardless of who he plays for.

If quinn stays and loses the first 3 or 4 games , cleveland fans will be calling for his head.

First priority is a shut down corner. Then, defensive line help. Trade for quarterback, kick Anderson to the curb, and look for some free agent help at LB.

My theory on the Browns rebuild is centered on the defense. First resign ILB Jackson, Bowens has shown he can fill the other ILB spot for now. Draft Joe Haden at #7 and trade Anderson and Cribbs, if negotiations don't go well, to get back into the first round for Taylor Mays. Use our second rounder on an ILB for the future, third round address the right side of the O line. Beyond that look for a project QB, hopefully Lefevour, and a replacement for Cribbs if things don't work out.

DISPELLING THEY MYTHS:

MYTH 1- On another thread someone said it is no wonder the Browns are such losers because they firred a future HOFer coach in Bill Belichick. FACT- Modell actually did fire a HOF coach, but that coach was Paul Brown. Belichick coached in Cleveland from 1991-95, posting seasons of 6-10, 7-9, 7-9, 11-5, and 5-11. Modell announced he was moving the team to Baltimore in mid 1995 season, and Belichick RESIGNED in February, 1996. Ted Marchibroda coached the Ravens from 1996-98 before being replaced by Brian Billick.

MYTH 2- In the movie, "THE EXPRESS," Modell first appears at Syracuse University during Jim Brown's senior year announcing that HE had secured the rights to Brown for the Browns. It also make him appear like the genius in bringing Ernie Davis to Cleveland. FACT- Modell didnt own the Browns until 1961, and it was the move Paul Brown made trading popular Bobby Mitchell to Washington for the draft rights for Davis that made that deal possible. Ironically it was the Mitchell trade made without Modell being consulted and Davis' death before he could play a down for the Browns that led to the carpetbagger firing the founder of the Browns!

A young man called into ALL BETS ARE OFF on STO last night lamenting that he had not seen the Browns win anything and he was of the opinion that the Browns were cursed and that they should change their name, their colors, and their uniforms and start over from scratch. Any curse associated with the Browns left town following the 1995 season, and true Browns fans are left to wonder what if Modell had stayed in his native New York and Paul Brown been left to continue with his beloved Browns.

The Browns "curse" remarkably seems to coincide with the arrival of Modell. The Browns won a championship two years later under Blanton Collier but with all of Browns players, and whatever success they had the remainder of the 60s was the same.
