CHESHIRE — You haven’t won a game, you’re in overtime and all five starters have fouled out. It seemed like a bad situation for the Rock Hill Redwomen.
But backups Kayla Wright, Katie Johnson, Brooke Knipp, Kelsey Blagg and Tommi Butler thought otherwise as they gave Rock Hill a 62-56 stunning upset of the River Valley Lady Raiders Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“Our young kids really stepped it up and our press was a big difference,†said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter. “I can’t say enough about the effort of all our girls, especially the younger ones.â€
Chelsea Harper and Courtney Duncan led the Redwomen. Harper had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals while Duncan finished with 18 points, 7 steals and 4 assists.
Rock Hill — who was winless last season — is now 1-10 and 1-5.
Brooke Marcum scored 16 points and Kesley Sanders 15 for River Valley.
The Lady Raiders led 15-11 after the first quarter despite 6 points by Harper.
Duncan had 7 points in the second quarter but Marcum had 7 as River Valley led 29-22 at the half.
The Redwomen cut the deficit to 40-35 in the third quarter as Harper scored 7 points.
Duncan had 7 more in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill rallied to tie the game.
In overtime, Harper hit a 3-pointer to start the quarter but then fouled out. Wright entered the game and hit a long triple to erase a one-point deficit and Johnson then hit three straight foul shots over the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
Rock Hill 11 11 13 16 11 = 62
River Valley 15 14 11 11 5 = 56

Re: Rock Hill @ River Valley
What you failed to mention is the fact that RV STARTED the game without 2 of their starters, and very key players. As a result of the SP game, Ward is out for the season, with a torn ACL, and MCL. Gilmore was out because of a concussion recieved in that game, Marcum is playing with a knee injury that is going to require surgery post season. I don't recall anyone on here saying how great it was that RV beat Rock Hill by 30 at Rock Hill. Don't kid yourself, it would have been pretty much the same type of beating, had Ward and Gilmore been playing, and Marcum was at 100%. I might also mention, that Roberts is nursing a hip injury, and Mayes is out for the season with a broken tailbone. So yeah, RH beat RV's JV in overtime. Note: osumufan....... you might think about finding another forum to write to.....you can't even decide if you want to be a OSU fan, or a MU fan!!! What a smack in the face of the Buckeyes!!!!!
Re: Rock Hill @ River Valley
Why can't I be a fan of both schools MU and OSU. I graduated from Marshall with two degrees and have lived in Ohio almost all my life. U of M or UM is Michigan! If you are going to try and slam someone at least know what you are talking about!!!
As to your teams injuries goes to show what happens when the refs let the game get out of hand with rough play!!

I just want to say that I am very sorry to hear that Jenna Wadrd is hurt and will probably miss the the rest of her senior season. Jenna is a great kid and has always been a competitor on the floor.
Madison Mays is also a great kid and sticks with the game year in and year out.
I wish you the best Jenna and Madison.

Re: Rock Hill @ River Valley
First of all......... osumufan.... Just just proved my previous post, Michigan, and Ohio State fan!!!! Man you need some serious help!!!! I apologize for downing you, you just don't know any better!!! As for crying about the officiating.... not going to do that either. They called it the same on both ends of the floor, just unfortunate that 2 players got hurt, doesn't matter what school they were from, but unfortunate none the less. You were tooting the RH horn, and I was just stating a fact. I still don't recall anyone BRAGGING when RV beat them by 30. And as for making excuses..... I don'tneed to make excuses. RV is struggling to get a win, no doubt about that . They are a better team than they have shown, and why they are not being successful, I don't know, I'm not a coach...and smart enough to know it!! But when people start bragging, they normally only tell one side of the story, I'm just clarifying that the team that played RH, and Coal Grove was playing with starters out, and by the way I think that the fans of Coal Grove were getting just a little worried, in fact if it hadn't have been for the three's...... Rv would have won that one, cause there wasn't ANYONE on the floor for Coal Grove that could stop Marcum, but a win is win, and CoalGrove got that one!!!
Re: Rock Hill @ River Valley
I think he means Marshall not Michigan! WE are fans if Marshall in this house this means wemufans.
Re: Rock Hill @ River Valley
RVFAN let me saaaay thiiiiiiis sloooowly OSU =Ohio State University, MU= Marshall University. If I was a Michigan fan it would have read osuumfan!!!! because UM = Michigan as in University of Michigan. Again why can't I be a Marshall fan and an Ohio State fan? You crack me up you try to put me down not once but twice after I already explained it to you!!!
Are you sure you're not from West Virginia??? Oh I get it you are dyslexic. That explains it!
If you are having trouble understanding this message I give up!!!

Re: Rock Hill @ River Valley
RVFAN I went to the University of Michigan website to get you some more educational material on that team up north!
In 1817, the University of Michigan was established in Detroit and became the first public university in the Northwest Territories.
Again UM=University of Michigan!
MU= Marshall University ( this is what pays my bills--the two degrees from here) so I kinda need to be a fan, I also live in Ohio so OSU is my school too!
SO OSUMUFAN = I am a fan of OSU and MU! GO Bucks! Go Herd!
