Wow...Matt Queen in Wellston?!?! He did own them in the 90's! lol

Honestly thought...Queen's team were run run run and with the backs Wellston have, that would definatly work! I would love to see Wellston and VC back up in the top half of the TVC...Wellston vs. VC will mean something again soon!

Not sure where you got your information By the Numbers. Coach Phillips practices are planned down to the minute and players run from one drill to another. He is giving a talk on that at the Portsmouth coaching clinic this year, practice organization and planning. Players are not allowed to loaf and during team time are expected to run a certain number of plays in a certain number of minutes.Chin Straps are buttoned and helmets are on whenever on the field and those that try to take their helmets off usually end up carrying sandbags after practice. There have been some that after being given a few chances like you would any kid had to be removed from the team. I think its really something how people throw stuff out like that trying to stir up trouble. There have been a few and very few in Oak Hill that were disgruntled because they thought a players year in school should take priority over ability when it came to playing time. Maybe your one of those or have been talking to one.

Charles Farquar. . . As I said, that was just hearsay. I don't even really know Phillips. When I watched them play, they seemed to be disciplined. I didn't know if maybe there were some off the field issues that had occurred. I'll take your word for it, though. I talked to someone yesterday who has ties to Wellston schools and they said that Wellston was cutting some jobs. I wonder if they will have a teaching job for the new coach or if they are looking for someone who can teach a certain subject. As I said previously, it should be interesting. I'm surprised that someone from the inside didn't apply for the job. Weren't there some teachers on staff?

Matt queen would be a great fit for Wellston "RUNNIN" Rockets football.
He seems to get the best out of his players. Plays people in right places. Very run oriented.
Predictable on offense, but if executed properly it doesen't matter.
I doubt anyone with more experience will apply for the job.

Great post Charles! Too many people get on here and put little "tid bits" out that they have heard "from someone else" just to stir some crap up. My next door neighbor's son played for Coach Phillips when he was in Jackson. He loved playing for him. I used to kid him about a Wellston guy coaching the defense in Jackson. It was all in good fun. I know of one person that thinks he does a great job and that is Norm Persin. If you don't believe me, give him a call!!! :) If truth be known, I'd just as soon see him stay in Oak Hill. If he goes to Wellston, and gets them going, week one might not be a gim'me anymore!! :)

With interviews happening yesterday, does anyone (Boilermaker) have any inside info as to how things went or how many they narrowed the field to? If they really interviewed 10, I would assume they would narrow it to maybe 3 or 4. Just a guess. Or, maybe someone wowed them enough to make their selection.

I have zero inside info, but I can see, and I saw Coach Phillips in attendance at the Oak Hill girl's basketball game yesterday sitting with his assistant principal. Looks like he didn't interview. I was told that they interviewed 6 yesterday and that number would go to 3 for a final interview the middle of this week. Could it be that this is all speculation and he isn't interested or his interest has changed?

I was told by someone who was at the interviews that they interviewed 2 yesterday. Neither guy was local and both were older guys 50's+. Both had very impressive resumes and interviews and, he said there were 5 more left to interview.

Yes true that, those two were out of Staters too. They should name someone soon ,no more than two weeks from now.

Boiler, I was wondering how many if any of the assistant coaches applied, and do you feel any of them are ready to be a head coach? You think one will be named the end of the month? I was told there is a board meeting the 11th of March. If they have more first round interviews this week, there is no way to name one at that board meeting.

I think Cris Hutchinson applied ,and I beleive he would do a good job.Kids like him and would play for him.
I think the board will get together twice this month, the second time to hire/announce the new Head Coach.

Saw where Wellston will also be looking for a new superintendent. When will that search begin?

It seems to me that Wellston people want someone who is going to come in, stay for a while and build a successful program. With that being said, I would be careful about hiring someone who is in their 50's or someone from out of state. How long are guys in their 50's going to be around? Also, you never know when an out odf stater might pack up and leave. I'm sure they will be interviewing some fairly local people and I look for them to hire one of those. But, you never know. I'd say the rumors will be flying in the next couple of days. I'm sure there are a few Wellston faithful on here who will keep us aprised of the latest happenings.
