I dont beleive that gold, He hasnt even interviewed yet. Besides if he get the wellston job Im sure he will handle his depature from Oak Hill a little better than a note on the Ad's door.Oak Hill did give him a chance at being a head coach.

I agree with Boilermaker. I think Phillips would handle things a little more professionally than just leaving a note. Has anyone heard how the interviews went yesterday and if they are interviewing anymore or if they have them all complete now?

The board will make the cut to four this week . Then it is up to a commitee of eight people to recomend a coach. I look for this to happen in a week or so.

I agree with BytheNumbers. There is no way Coach Phillips would do something like that. Someone was having fun with Goldenboy. Does anyone know for sure (Boiler) if Coach Phillips has even talked to them? Also, why no other Rocket fans posting on this? This is the future of your program that is at stake here. I think Phillips would do a great job if you can get him to come. We know one thing for sure . . . you will get a coach named real soon. Good luck Rockets except in week 1!

Does anyone know the names of the finalists or if they have even narrowed the field? I'm sure they have with the interviewing being finished on Monday. Also, are they going to re-interview the finalists or just narrow it and pick one?

Hope I am right because they need to make a hirer soon to get more players to come out and start lifting! A lot of players are holding out to see who gets hired and to see if their going to stay!

They will offer the job this week . The job can be turned down by the one it is offered to. That would be the only reason it wont be announced this week. I think it wont be turned down by the guy who is going to be offered the job.
I really hate that attidude from the potential players. If you want to be successful in football you have to be working out. They know the school is going to hire a coach. Chances are the players wont know the new coach all that well ,other than his name and what is being said about him by adults ...ie their parents.I think it is an excuse not to work . I know this has been a problem at Wellston since Larry Blackstone left. He had the kids then wanting to work and get bigger stronger faster. Then Dave Lucas carried that on somewhat but since then this has been a problem.
I hope whoever they hire hold the kids accountable for the work or lack of work they put in the off season. I know some kids (and especially their parents ) think just because the kid is a good football player naturally he has earned his spot and can be lazy in the offseason and during the season at practice. I seen this some last year and when the coaches tried to correct this ,the parent dindnt get behind them to make the kid work harder in some cases they actually encouraged their kid to quit. In order for Wellston to get out of this mediocrity they are mired in this has to change. The kids have to work harder and the parents and community has to get behind the Coach durung the bad times as well as the good times.
There are examples of this to follow--- Ironton , Wheelersburg, Nelsonville York ,and even our hated rival the Jackson Ironmen. This past year everyone had Jackson dead and buried ,they went 7-3 .
Good Luck to the new Coach because in Wellston like many other places simply knowing you X's and O's is not good enough .You must deal with parents and for the most part (and I hope this changes) non-support from the community.

Well said boiler, i know from a being a former player what your talking about! I just hope the kids stop worrying about what they're parents are saying and the community and get into the weight room and prove to everyone that they can win with or without a certian coach!

Great post Boilermaker. I think you hit the nail on the head with one statement. . . The kids have to work harder and the parents and community has to get behind the Coach during the bad times as well as the good times. The three school that you mentioned are perfect examples among others. They fill the stands every Friday, the fans do more cheering than bi@#$ing, and they have great boosters. The result. . . winning every year! Wellston needs to realize that they have never had a consistently good program in recent history. They first need to knock the non-league schedule down a hair and get some W's before league play. If you go into league play with 0 or 1 win, it is difficult to keep the kids' heads up to play the league teams. Alexander has done a great job of this the last couple years. I hope that the Wellston community supports the new guy and gives him a realistic chance.

They just need to get the coach named and get on with it. There's been too much drama surrounding this hire and I think everyone knows what's coming down.

However, Wellston does have a propensity of screwing things up when given the opportunity.
