Can the Oaks make it back to state?
What's your thoughts on the Oaks making it all the way back to the State this year?

It will be tougher in DIII, but with the "O" man and storming Norman, all things are possible and I could see it. When you know how to win, you know how to win. Just win baby!

Oak Hill, Ironton, Portsmouth, Zane Trace and Peebles are the teams that could IMO make it to the final 4.....many of those will of course face each other..it looks like the Jackson #1 seed could face the fewest of those teams.
I think Portsmouth has the highest upside...but Ironton, Oak Hill, ZT and Peebles are maybe a little more likely to play very good every night....especially Oak Hill right now.
I think 1 of these 5 teams will make it to state. Here is my guessing of best chance order:
#1 Ironton
#2 Portsmouth
#3 Zane Trace
#4 Peebles
#5 Oak Hill
....though once they are seeded this order will likely change

The Oaks will see much stronger compition in the D-3 tourny than they did last year. I think they can be a regional team but thats about as far as they go.
Re: Can the Oaks make it back to state?
Sure they can with a little luck. They have a great PG, outside shooters and play tremendous defense.

Well obviously the Jackson sectional could be a very hard fought battle to get out of but i think the oaks will win out of the sectional and beyond that im not sure what teams we would end up playing. but the obvious ones are the ones ranked ahead of us in the ap poll- liberty Benton, Middletown Madison, east canton, Plymouth. then the rest of the legit teams on the list are Cincinnati Taft, Coldwater, Cardington Lincoln, Peebles and Columbus Grandview Heights.
i don't know when we will face all these teams but whoever we face i know the oaks will be playing hard to get the 'W'

With the relative strength of D-3 this season getting out of the district tourny will be a huge accomplishment.

Piketon would be the team I would watch out for. It's going to be a struggle to come out of this area.

There is about 5 or 6 teams that could potentially make the final 4.

Who will come out of the East District? Garaway? They are like 13-2.

St.Clairsville isn't to bad either.
Re: Can the Oaks make it back to state?
Yeah, I just saw that they are 11-3. They play a good schedule also.
Re: Can the Oaks make it back to state?
We can't forget about the teams from the East whom always like to ruin a good run for the Southeast teams in the Regional.
Starting my research from the 2000-2001 season, the East District has represented the Region three times in Division 3 while being outnumbered by SE District teams 3 to 1 in most years.
2001---Belpre (state semifinalist)
2002---Eastern Brown (state semifinalist)
2003---Sugarcreek Garaway (state finalist) lost to state champion
2004---Bellaire (state semifinalist)
2005---Ironton (state finalist) lost to state champion
2006---Wheelersburg (state semifinalist)
2007---Wheelersburg (state semifinalist) lost to state champion
2008---Sugarcreek Garaway (state finalist) lost to state champion
2009---Piketon (state semifinalist) lost to state champion
On top of this, NO STATE CHAMPIONS have come from this region in that time period. Another interesting fact is that not one team from the Southeast District has ever won a D3 state championship (changed from A to III in 1987.)
History is not on our side when it comes to producing state champions in basketball.
With that being said, this will be an incredible District/Regional tournament at the CONVO.
