Top active Girls Basketball Coaches in the Area?
Re: Top active Girls Basketball Coaches in the Area?
Coach Jon Estep has led the Glenwood Lady Tigers to multiple SOC I titles. He has thought his players how to respect the game and continue to play hard even when they are in a tight battle. He has not only made them better on the court but off the court as well. He helps them get colleges to look at them and does everything he can to get them to play at the next level.
Great coach in my opinion.
Nice job Coach Estep!

He's not my father or a family member.I just know a quality person when I see one.My first recolection of him was when I was maybe six or seven and his Burg teams wiped the floor with the best teams in the SOC.

I personally think Logan's 8th grade coach is one of the best the area. He is so underrated. He is so good with people that he should take over the whole program.

I didn't hear about that for some reason. I knew he was close! Congrats to a quality coach and person!!! I agree that he is one of the best coaches in this area.

Doug hale. By far best coach in seo hands down. 2 state runners up and hopefully a state title to add to the resume after this season.

I agree Doug Hale is a great coach, but he is not by far the best coach. There are others that are right up there with him and Richard Kiser is one of those. Could be an interesting District Semi-Final between these two!! Although, I think Oak Hill has the superior talent, I think Coach Kiser will be able to keep it somewhat close for a good part of the game.
Re: Top active Girls Basketball Coaches in the Area?
Sometimes a coach shows the most when he doesn't have the horses and still manages 10-12 wins in the regular season and improvement all along the way.
Some of the players for these teams are amazing young basketball players, some from other areas........many coaches would have the CURRENT success of the greater ones. Kiser of Eastern Brown has never had a D1 player I don't think.....but many, many great ones and his program is endless....Oak Hill is on top of the world right now with great state recognition (that's when you know they are really good, when other parts of the state consider you contenders) and South Webster...goodness, if you've ever seen Kayla Cook play....geesh, she's never going to be on a team that is under .500.
Those 3 coaches have all done very good jobs...600 wins is almost silly, Hale's team now could win the state and any time you make it to the Final 4.....you just can't knock it, that means you've had a few games to beat the very best teams and you were successful...making you a very good coach. The couple of times I've seen South Webster's coach....I though she did a good job of managing the game.
I would like to see Hale in 3 years and SW without Cook to really say how great those coaches are....and it wouldn't take a state title to prove anythig

Ironman92,
I totally agree with your post! Great post! Any coach that can take a group with not a whole lot of talent and win 10-12 games like you said should definitely be considered a great coach too!
On a side note, Kiser did have one DI player that I know of, maybe someone else knows of someone else, but Micah Harvey graduated in 2002 from Eastern Brown and then went on to play for the Bearcats of UC.

Rod Padgett at Barlow Vincent has over 700 wins now. He has coached both both and girls.

Richard Kiser has to be atop this list! His resume speaks for itself in my opinion.

I have seen Rod coach first hand, and I have never met anyone who has more knowledge about the game and loves teaching it to others. I think he has inspired many athletes at warren. He is just a great guy.
Re: Top active Girls Basketball Coaches in the Area?
Pat Walsh from Logan would have to be considered. He took over a program that was in total disarray several years ago and has built it into a winner. Going into this year he lost one of the best players in the area (Cassady) at point guard before the season even started, and has had two of his best players injured and not 100% much of the year, plus another player who was playing well miss a large part of the season for other reasons. Yet Logan has won 2/3 of their games, beat an excellent Watterson team and will finish no worse than 2nd in the SEOAL. A lot of that has to do with how hard the girls have played, but a lot of it has to do with Coach Walsh.
Re: Top active Girls Basketball Coaches in the Area?
How come so many of the strong basketball players are moving out of Logan before or during JR high. If Walsh is so good, wouldn't they want to stay and play for such a strong coach? Heard of another strong 6th grader who's Dad is involved in athletics in the Logan school system who is job hunting in order to get his dtr out of here. wonder why?
