Reports: Bengals sign Matt Jones, pass on 'Pacman' after workout
NFL.com
Matt Jones found his second chance with a team known for giving them.
The wide receiver signed a one-year deal worth around $700,000 to join the Bengals, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Friday.
Jones, who's 6-foot-6 and regarded as a speedy red-zone threat, also had an offer from the Tennessee Titans, according to various media outlets.
The Bengals' official Web site reported that Jones worked out for the team Thursday, and former Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman threw him passes. Former Titans and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, who like Matt Jones has a troubled past, also worked out for the Bengals but reportedly wasn't offered a contract.
Matt Jones, a first-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2005, didn't play last season, so he's OK to sign before the March 5 start of free agency. The Jaguars released Jones last March following his best NFL season after he violated terms of a plea deal he agreed to while facing a felony cocaine possession charge in Arkansas.
Jones served a three-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy in 2008, but he caught 65 passes for 761 yards and two touchdowns that season. The reception and yardages totals were career highs.
Jones has 166 receptions for 2,153 yards and 15 touchdowns in four NFL seasons. He played quarterback at the University of Arkansas, but the Jaguars moved him to receiver after drafting him.

Re: MATT JONES NOW A BENGAL , THEY SAY NO TO PACMAN.
Jones was just starting to come around as a receiver. Now he is playing to earn a bigger pay check for more years. Much like Benson was when he came. It is up to Jones to produce and hopefully they will get more out of him than they did Coles last year.
Now will the Bengals still draft a wide receiver with their first pick or look elsewhere? As for Pac Man his skills were not the best in Dallas and with what the Bengals have he would be a reserve anyway.

Well they had to bring in someone to stir up crap in the locker room and get suspended for something. What would my Bengals be without drug addicts and trouble makers??

fortunately for 700,000 it is wont hurt too much to cut your losses if need be, Ced Benson, Tank Johnson, larry johnson, all troubled pasts w/o incident with the Bengals... Marvin Lewis can handle this

As for the draft I have seen a lot of mock drafts lately have the Bengals drafting Grisham TE from Oklahoma, that could be a very good pick as long as he is 100% recovered from injuries.
Re: MATT JONES NOW A BENGAL , THEY SAY NO TO PACMAN.
Grisham would be great if he is healthy. A good TE helps an offense gain first downs. He had speed and could split out as a WR. The Bengals didn't get many catches from the TE position last year and the drafting of Chase Coffman didn't do any good as of yet.

I'd love to see us sign T.O. & I wish they'd sign Pac Man & take a gamble . This would give us an outstanding WR Core & one of the best secondaries in the NFL also I feel drafting a saftey is key in the draft I feel Greaham will be a great pro but we drafted Chase Coffman a TE last year who didn't get much playing time last year early then got injured be Coffman will be a good one IMO but we'll see what shall happend

Need to sign T.O or Marshall before the bengals look elsewhere in the draft (TE or WR).

Pac Man is a bad corner. Thats why he doesn't have a team! He makes a fine nickle or dime back but he isn't a good every down corner. These days Returners are a dime a dozen so I see no good reason to sign him. Thank gos the Bengals seen it that way to.
Owens is a number 3 WR with a super star ego. He drops way to many balls and he would try to steal the lime light away from Ocho, Thats just to much ego on one team. The first time he took a play off or didn't give enough effort to go after a ball and Palmer got into his face T.O. would explode and cry and cry. Then he would take his ball and go home.
Re: MATT JONES NOW A BENGAL , THEY SAY NO TO PACMAN.
One reporter said today that some teams have looked at Pac Man and he is still running with many of the same crowd as before.
Owens would only be a short term addition along with all the headaches. He is like a person with a heart problem along with high stress. When things are going well no problem. When not major problems and sometimes those problems can not be fixed.

Re: MATT JONES NOW A BENGAL , THEY SAY NO TO PACMAN.
Now all they need is to pick up Jamal Lewis and then they can officialy change their name to the Cincinatti Rehabers
Being serious now Matt Jones is a nice pick up, give him a year and I think he be as good as new

Grishon had one knee operated on in high school. He had the other knee operated on in collage. One good hit and he will be gone. Bengals should go for gilyard !!!!!

I completely agree...low risk, high reward...
We got to the playoffs last year on th backs of "second chance players".
----bottom line----
2006 was a bad year...get over it! The Bengals are below league average in arrests over the last ten years!

Re: MATT JONES NOW A BENGAL , THEY SAY NO TO PACMAN.
You guys need a receiver. Notice how the production fell off after Henry went out. On second thought, maybe you need two. Chad whateverhisnameisnow is past his prime and his antics, however good-natured, are wearing on the team. He has not shown up on a police blotter, which is good!
