Congratulations to the Trojans on the win.......and as biggdowgg said, it guaranteed PHS a winning season........the first since 2002........and also secured the 8th SEOAL win.......also a high water mark in the 4 years of league membership........Portsmouth is now 8-4 in SEOAL play.

Marietta fell behind 49-30, but made a spirited rally to cut the lead to 56-48......the Tigers couldn't keep it up, but their kids didn't quit.

The 10-6 mark is the most regular season wins since 2002.......a long 8 years.......and FINALLY the streak of losing seasons has been stopped at 7, which was a school record.

Tory Horne continues to put up big numbers in the scoring column.......in his 8 games played, he has had only 1 game under 21 points.......and that was the first game vs. Logan when he had 19 coming off the bench. He currently averages just under 25 PPG. Tory does more than just score.......he plays a good all around complete game.

Dion McKinley had his 3rd game of at least 15 points in the 8 games he has played.......he has a high mark of 21 at Jackson.......Dion is averaging double figures even despite not starting for half of those 8 games. Dion had 3-4 blocked shots last night.

Tre Underwood had put 24 points total in the last 2 games.......good to see him back to being an offensive threat inside after coming back from his injury. Tre is averaging right around 12 PPG. Tre was a bulldog on the boards last night as he always is.

Wayne Evans, London Malone, and Forrest Johnson all made significant contributions in their roles........don't know the official stats, but Wayne had to have close to 8-9 assists in the game with some perfect dishes in the paint to Dion or Tre for buckets. London is one of the most dependable FT shooters on the team.......while Forrest was involved in some deflected passes and disrupted dribbles which led to turnovers.

Coach Collins got everyone in the game.......which was good to see all the kids get some minutes.

Things Portsmouth has accomplished so far in Coach Collins' first year at PHS:

1. First winning season since 2002
2. First winning season in SEOAL play
3. Sweep of Jackson, Gallia Academy, and Marietta for the first time in SEOAL play
4. First win at Warren in SEOAL play
5. First win at Logan in SEOAL play
6. First win at Wheelersburg since 1979
7. First win over Chesapeake in last 8 regular season meetings
8. Most wins in regular season since 2002
9. Most SEOAL wins in 4 years of league play
10. First winning road record in SEOAL play....5-2

I anticipate adding to this list as the season goes.

It was the smallest Portsmouth crowd for a road game that I have seen since PHS played at Zanesville several years ago.......a total of 5 people.......but there was a "man row" including biggdowgg......and I was the lone person sitting behind the bench.......that felt weird. There were a couple of JV players who took turns keeping score for the varsity game.......I haven't seen that before.

Marietta had a very small crowd also........the game being on Wednesday with a 6:30 varsity starting time was partially the reason for the low turnout........without question it was the strangest atmosphere at any game I've attended in a long time.
