SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
As teams are gearing up for the "real" season we've still got lots of "first season" makeup games left to play, thanks to Old Man Winter. SHL overall title is still unresolved, with Ripley & eastern duking it out for the big school and Peebles clinching the small school.
Snow being predicted for Tuesday, but let's roll with this anyways...

Wednesday, February 24
*Manchester @ Peebles
Peebles (17-0, 11-0) has an overcrowded schedule this week, playing 3 games in 5 days. They have makeup game with Franklin Furnace, then have their final games against Manchester (10-8, 4-7) and Fairfield (9-8, 6-5). Coming on the heels of the Game of the Year against Eastern, these games determine whether Peebles gets their first gold ball since...uh...a long time ago. If Peebles wins one more league game, they clinch the overall title.
Ripley (10-6, 7-2) and Eastern (10-6, 8-2) are in a dead heat for the big school title. The Blue Jays play Lynchburg (6-10, 5-4), North Adams (5-12, 4-7) & West Union (1-15, 0-12). Eastern (also overcrowded this week) faces Georgetown, Fayetteville (5-11, 1-8) & Lynchburg. A tie looks very likely in the SHL: Big School race.
Whiteoak's (9-8, 6-5) trying to end the season over .500, with 2 winnable games against Lynchburg & Fayetteville. If Lynchburg plays as well as they did against Peebles Friday, the Wildcats may be stuck in the middle.
Am I missing any makeup games? I'd sure like for you to tell me.
But let's get to the reason for the season, the tournament:
Division 3, Southeast
#1 Peebles (17-0) plays the winner of #8 North Adams and #9 Paint Valley. If the Devils beat Valley, this is a rivalry game that will go down in school history. Either NA spoils Peebles' season, or Peebles snaps the Devils' long streak of district appearances.
#3 Eastern plays the winner of #6 Westfall (7-11) and #11 Adena (1-16). Tip for Eastern: it's a long drive to Athens; bring some travel yahtzee for the trip.
#7 Lynchburg plays #10 West Union in the first round. The winner goes on to play #2 Piketon. West Union may be better than their record, but so is Piketon.
Division 4, Southeast
#4 Whiteoak will play #5 Fairfield in the first round. You have to thinnk Fairfield's tired of the thumpings they've taken at the paws of the Wildcats. Battle of the Cats III should be one to remember. The winner will most likely face South Webster (1).
#3 Manchester plays #6 Clay (7-10). The winner goes on to face #2 Green (9-6), so have fun in the district tournament Greyhounds, you can definitely go deep.
D3 Cincinnati
#8 Ripley plays the winner of #9 Cincinnati Purcell-Marion and #10 Cincinnati Clark Montessori.
D4 Cincinnati
#6 Fayetteville plays #5 St. Bernard Elmwood Place. The winner plays # 4Dayton Miami Valley School.

Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
West Union is scheduled to play tonight at St.Patrick. I think that will be cancelled with all the snow coming. I would like to see tomorrow game cancelled too at Portsmouth West. That will give the boys some rest and save their legs for Ripley on Friday (senior night) and Fairfield on Saturday. Then onto tournament, I like West Union draw vs Lynchburg on Tuesday the 23rd. Good luck Dragons and finish the season strong!!
Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
Peebles/Green game is postponed until the 21st. Other cancellations?

Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
whiteoak still has a game with felicity to make up. miami valley is the #4 seed in the cincinnati d4. the cincinnati d4 only has two teams with a winning record, 7hills and lockland.
with all of the bad weather some teams may have to fit in league games around their tournament schedule and cancel non league games.
hindsight is 20/20 so ohio schools should think about starting the season a week earlier and schools should try to schedule more games in december. probably won't happen because of the football playoffs.
in ohio basketball takes a backseat to football.

Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
A lot of SHL teams left their final week light...I don't think Manchester originally had any games scheduled this week, and they're a football school. West Union played a ridiculously low amount of games in December...I want to say 4 or 5.

Agree...hope that will be changed next season.
Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
North Adams @ Ripley has been moved to Wednesday 2/24
Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
Fairfield narrowly knocked Whiteoak from the tourney last year......hopefully a payback is going to happen.

Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
A payback makes sense from the standpoint that the same two schools are playing each other, but this year's team is a whole different team than the Fairfield team that Whiteoak played last year...Whiteoak, on the other hand, has most of their nucleus back from last season. Tournament experience I think will come into the Wildcats' favor here. Don't believe in the old addage either, it's hard to beat a team three times.

Fairfield beat Whiteoak three times last year, but each time they played them the games were closer and closer. It is a challenge to win against any team 3 times in a season, especially a county rival.

I agree...at 3 games most teams can make adjustments and neutralize what other teams are doing against them.
Re: SHL Final Week & Tournament Preview: Scores & Standings
what about 4 times? some teams in the soc eastern and western could play 4 times. in the shi west union, north adams, and peebles could play each other 4 times as well due to holiday tournaments.
some of you familiar with that scenario have any facts at these teams ever playing 4 times in the same season?

Which SHL team do you think has the best draw? My vote goes for Manchester.
