Have been asked to not say names publicly. They are interviewing three people.

When will the interviews be completed and when will they make an announcement? I respect you for not giving the names when asked not to. Most people couldn't keep that information to themselves.

I've heard a candidate has been chosen, is anything official or semi-official?

I think whoever gets the job will have a solid group coming up in a very short few years. Their younger teams play well with some promising looking kids. This years high school team, I am guessing here, will have some very good skill players, but may be very thin in the total numbers department. I wish the Tigers the best, keep working hard.

It's the end of March, they sure are taking their time. With schools on spring break I can't see a decision coming this week. I hope it's worth the wait. It has been a pretty quiet process too. I have no clue who the candidates are neither does anyone I talk to.

Neither one being interviewed.

I have got it on good authority that Burchfield was in Marietta a couple of weekends ago. I know someone who personally ran into him downtown. You make your own conclusions.

Interviews were this past week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), so a couple of weekends ago they were not interviewing. They interviewed three, he was not one of them.

MY guess is Farnsworth from PHS or Stevens from MARIETTA.

Farnsworth isn't from PHS, he's from South Carolina.

Farnsworth is a PHS grad, and excoach,

Also coached at Musselman and currently in South Carolina

If he gets the job, he will turn it around if given time.

Sorry Paws,my mistake Farnsworth is former head coach at PHS where he coached the Big Reds to a state championship. He left after 1 season as head coach. Not sure where he went from there.Recently was in the top 2 at PHS with Coach Reeves who eventally got the job. Coach Stevens from Marietta has coached Baseball,Football and Basketball at MHS and is currently teaching there. Good Luck to the new staff.

Farnsworth was selected as the interim head coach in 2001 after Marshall Burdette resigned after the season had begun. They did win the state championship by beating Martinsburg 28-7. Then he was not brought back on as the full time head coach and they hired Bernie Buttrey. He was also a finalist this time when PHS hired Don Reeves.

Why did they pass on him twice? Once after winning a state championship?

According to people around that situation Farnsworth left after the 2001 season because there were no teaching positions there and the Reeves hiring has everyone stumped. A couple people that used to coach there say that it was a done deal before the interview process ever took place.

From the Parkersburg New and Sentinel website

•Craig Farnsworth: A former Parkersburg High School football player under Buddy James and assistant coach from 1993 to 2001 under Marshall Burdette, Farnsworth became the interim head coach of the Big Reds following the opening game of the 2001 season and guided Parkersburg to the Class AAA state championship.

9 years is a long time to coach without a teaching job and then all of sudden when you have the head job decide that it is important. Did he have a job and lose it that year?
