Re: BELPRE vs WHEELERSBURG
Sounds like the poor ball management and lack of discipline down the stretch this time is going to end Belpre's season. They overcame the lack of discipline and poor ball management/shot selection down the stretch against North Adams, but I guess it wasn't meant to be tonight.

Especially when they also got the ball back after those intentional flagrant and technical fouls.

Just got home from the game.
What a terrible night of shooting for both teams. Hate to see anyone have a night like that, especially during the tournament.
Congrats to the Belpre Eagles on a great season.
Win and advance Pirates! Congrats!!

I heard someone from Belpre that all the officials at the game tonight were from the SOC area including the assigner, does anyone know. Doesn't seem like the assigner should be doing the game.

No matter where they were from they were the worst officiating crew I believe I have ever seen do a game. There was one in particular that must have just been brought up from the biddy leagues. He missed more calls and made the wrong call more than any official I have ever seen. How can a player go flying into the lane completely out of control and jump into a player standing still and have no call either way? There had to be either a block or a charge, especially when the offensive player runs right over the defensive player and both end up in a pile on the floor there has to be a foul on one of them. Another call he made was 2 players had the ball at the same time and he calls a traveling on the Burg player. How is this possible when both players had both hands on the ball?
As for the game, by far the ugliest basketball game I think I've ever seen. Neither team could get any kind of rythym going. Belpre struggled holding on to the ball and the Burg couldn't throw it in the ocean if they were standing on the beach, but a win is a win. Now on to play the winner of Eastern Brown and Albany.

Re: BELPRE 32 vs WHEELERSBURG 43 .......FINAL
Ugly win, but Burg will take it.
Reason for the lopsided foul shooting-Belpre came down and held the ball until they either took the shot of threw it away. Way to many unforced errors by them tonight. Probably the only chance they had of winning and it worked in the first half and some of the third.
Burg missed alot of wide open shots, but you can chalk that up to "first time at the convo" jitters. The only two players for the Burg that have played there are Tyler Lang and Andy Stegman. Hopefully they can put this game behind them and come out ready to play against I would imagine Eastern Brown as they were up by about 11 on Alexander when we left.
Burg will need a lot better performance next week. EB is not tall at all, but they are scrappy. 43 for them is a player

Congrats to Burg on the win. Austin McBee is going to be a player...kid had ice water running through his veins in crunch time, especially for a freshman.*

Re: BELPRE 32 vs WHEELERSBURG 43 .......FINAL
Burg 77-this game was not well officiated.
As a neutral observer not being a fan or acquainted with either team, at no time should one team shoot 33 freethrows to 6. Dr. Naismith invented the game in 1881 and the intentional foul call on Belpre may have been the worst call since the peach baskets were placed above the gym floor by the good doctor. The Belpre defender was simply trying to block a shot.
With that being said, the Burg took much better care of the ball and that was the big difference even more than the free throws. I think the Burg matchup with Eastern Brown will be a good one. The boys from EB really impressed me with their hustle but the Burg may be peaking at the right time. Both teams got two of the best coaches around. It should be a dandy! Good luck to both teams and to the seniors of Belpre and Alexander in their future lives.

Re: BELPRE 32 vs WHEELERSBURG 43 .......FINAL
javon, I think the reason the flagrant foul was called was because the Belpre player took the Burg player to the ground with his arms wrapped around the Burgs boys head. If he would have just fouled him hard from behind and not wrapped him up I think it would have just been a common foul and not flagrant. But then again that same official that made that call is the one that either missed the call completely or made the wrong call all game, so at least he was consistent. lol
Re: BELPRE 32 vs WHEELERSBURG 43 .......FINAL
I think there was a foul of equivalence to the flagrant called in the first half when Sims was going free to the hoop in the first half and it was not called the same. The turnover disparity is caused a lot by the officiating disparity. If you let the defense knock the offense off balance, it is going to create turnovers that otherwise wouldn't have happened if the fouls were called.

Re: BELPRE 32 vs WHEELERSBURG 43 .......FINAL
Good points Burg 77 and mhs95_06-I don't disagree with anything you said. I just don't think that most officials would make that call in that tight of a ball game. Unfortunately, I have seen more and more officials deciding or potentially deciding games with intentional or technical foul calls in close games more this year than in any other year that I can remember. Also, I have seen more games with foul disparities such as in this game this year than at any other time that I can remember. It does throw an offensive player off your game if you are getting thrown, banged and tossed around with no fouls being called.
