Vinton County Vikings Basketball at Meigs Tuesday 3/2 6PM
The Vinton County Vikings have one game left. A make-up game with Meigs, at Meigs. This will be a JV and Varsity contest on Tuesday beginning at 6PM. We are extremely hopeful that Viking fans will travel to Pomeroy to see the JV's go for 20 and to give Ethan Allen, Andy Grillo, Dylan Guthrie, Taylor Reed, and Steven Thompson a much deserved and appropriate farewell.

Meigs-40
Final..
VC finishes the year out at 16-6. Great Job seniors! During your 4 years at VCHS...the varsity basketball team's overall record is 78-13. There are many things you can say about each and every senior..but I think that record pretty much says it all!!!

Did Meigs even show up to play and who the heck is the coach down there now. All I know is when I lived down that way many, many years ago you wouldn't see a beating put on them like this let alone back then they wouldn't even consider scheduling the likes of Southern and Eastern (the little brothers in the county) but I guess the times do change. I think someone down there needs to light a fire under some of those kids butts to get them motivated and back out on the playing fields, concrete, courts, dirt and such so they can bring some pride back to western Meigs county athletics. It was bad enough about 25 years ago when they moved down to the TVC from the SEOAL and a lot of people said at the time it was a bad move and the kids would play to the level of the competition. It only took about 10 years for them in a lot of sports to not even be competitive in the smaller size league and now it seems the only thing they are competitive in is Football. My, how the big school in the county has fallen. JMO

Meigs is also usually pretty good in baseball, and golf.

It is my opinion that Coach Ewing is doing a very nice job, he is dealing with some of the nonsense that no coach should endured and he had an injury to a key part of his program. However, what I saw, he has some very good young talent coming, Jesse Smith, Cody Mattox, and Darrell Goff. And more importantly they play hard, they are unselfish, and they are working on getting better. As for Tuesday night, the young Meigs Marauders were over matched as a senior-laden team was coming off a heart-breaking loss in the sectional final to Logan Elm.

Saying Meigs is competitive in football is a stretch. In the last 17 years, Meigs has won just two TVC titles (one was a co-championship with Vinton) and made one playoff appearance. We don't play Gallipolis anymore, instead we have added Southern this year.
Re: Vinton County Vikings Basketball at Meigs Tuesday 3/2 6PM
Meigs had some serious attitude problems and some very cocky players who thought they ran the show. I think throughout the season those kids ended up quitting or getting kicked off because they didn't get their way. It's a shame that a few brats that had some serious potential can't get over their ego. Meigs may have taken some lumps this season, but hopefully they're back on the right track and next season will have kids that actually will work hard and earn their spots.

Why in the !@#$ are they scheduling Southern in football !!!!!!. (Taking nothing away from Southern but they haven't had but two or three winning football seasons in the last 37 years I think and that 37th year-1973- was the last championship they won which was in the SVAC and that was a tie with Kyger Creek I believe). Heck , Wahama pounds them senseless on a regular basis and they're single "A" in WV circles.

From what I gathered the Meigs-Southern football game came about as a result of TVC changes in the Hocking Division. Meigs was supposed to have had a verbal with Pt Pleasant and then Point scheduled Vinton Co leaving Meigs open in week 5. Tough to find anyone close that was open so the Meigs-Southern matchup came up as Southern had an open date as well.
