Re: Logan Basketball Coach Keith Myers Resigns
I heard Keith was hired to coach basketball at 2 different schools before he became head coach at Logan. I heard he accepted both jobs but later backed out because he could nt leave Logan. Is this true? Does he have kids in school? He might just stay put and be a teacher.

My odds on favorite to take the head coaching vacancy at Logan will be John Helber.Sad but true

I cannot in my wildest dream image what your problem is with Coach Helber. First, he puts winning teams on the court year in and year out. Maybe they don't win the league championship, but they are competitive. Second, he demands and gets respect and discipline from his players. Finally, he truly cares for the kids he coaches -and it shows. The kids love him.
Maybe you don't appreciate his "antics" on the sidelines (or whatever your issue with him is), but have you ever watched the whining that occurs from Blaine Maddox or Jeff Skinner. Their drama makes John look like a saint. I personally would welcome Coach Helber to the varsity sidelines. He has more than paid his dues.
Maybe the overall leadership of the LHS athletic program should be examined if everyone thinks the coaching situations are so atrocious.

I just think hiring Coach Helber is a no brainer. He knows the kids at Logan and he knows the coaches in the league. He works in the school district, lives in Logan and is a product of Logan. He has always seemed fair to the players, at least from what I can tell, he plays everyone and doesn't have kids on the team just to be practice players. What is there to lose????

hiring coach helber is a logical choice but not the right one i have heard helber saying he doesn't want the varsity job and likes were he is. You have to go outside of logan that doesnt have ties because politics come into play and we all know how that works in logan.

Should at least talk to him and possibly offer. If he doesn't want it, he can tell them no, but until then, he should be considered. I don't see a whole lot of politics with him-no close relatives in the system.

My opinion really does not matter, but here is my whish list for the head coach:
1. Stivison
1a. Maddox
2. Helber, if they are restricted by open teaching positions!
3. Skinner, from Athens.
4. an top assistance from a succesful program.
One thing for sure, the new head coach needs to clean house of all assistance which Myers hired!

Stiverson not "Stivison" and no way in hell would he take this job...too smart to be fooled into thinking this is a good job...same with Maddox. Helber? Really? That is the best you can come up with given your vast knowledge of basketball. No Varsity experience and didn't even play in highschool...sounds like a really smart choice. Maybe the powers that be really screwed this up....fire a coach with no teaching positions available an no clear plan on who they want to bring in. Pretty much par for the course.

Re: Logan Basketball Coach Keith Myers Resigns
Helber did play varsity ball in high school-Logan High School in fact. Has been in the Logan system for years.
In case you haven't noticed, Walsh (girls coach) never played High school ball and was never a varsity coach. If you want to throw out no varsity experience, I think the number of years at the reserve level are a pretty good barometer of what his potential is.
And Skinner for a head coach, get real. He got fired at Athens once. Everyone HATED him then. His antics, his whining and his preferential treatment. He only got rehired because they were in the same position as Logan is this year. No new job openings, and he was already in the system.
