More on TVC POY predictions

Post by pushinit »

I just went back and read some of the chatter on the previous topic. It's now locked to any further posts, but I thought I'd run a different perspective past you. Instead of voting as soon as regular season is over, I think they should wait until all the teams get through tournaments before they vote on these. That way , you get to evaluate their contributions for the entire year, and their entire contributions to their teams. Some people just get better and better the longer the season and you can tell how they hold up against tougher competition the deeper they go. Case in point, Whitney Daugherty pretty much saved their bacon yesturday, at least offensively for the Lady Spartans. Like I said before, any of their starters could be candidates, but the farther you see them go, the more some people may shine. The girl that got the most chatter on the other post is an excellent player and major contributer to her team, but they're one and done. The other teams are still going, so I'd say they're pretty important to their teams too, because they sure wouldn't be where they are now without them. :122249

I haven't been able to follow them a whole lot this season, so I don't know their exact schedule, but I do know all their losses have been to nonconference teams. Coach Guthrie likes a tough nonconference schedule so his girls will know what expect when they hit the tournament trail..I know they recently lost to Maysville, which is a really consistently good team, and they won against Toledo Central Catholic. Sorry, don't know much more except they are really fun to watch! They're small, but mighty. They don't have anyone over 5'7' and most of them are5'4" to 5'5" !

don't know didn't go to the game. It was the 2nd game of the season and they lost 2 seniors that started every game (except for a couple games) and another one that earned a starting position by the end of the year. They definitely hadn't started clicking yet. It is my understanding that the scores are in the District program, I will have to get one. By the way I guess their district final game is at 1:00 not 7:00 on March 6th.

This is for Jake Roberts and Hawkeye, two loyal guys for sure.

Hopefully this is the final on this issue of TVC POY.

I am going to predict that it will be Tori Dixon from good old Vinton County.

I base this on the picture I observed in the Wellston Telegram of Tori alongside her coach and AD. The article indicated that Tori was named the TVC player of the Year.

Of course, it may well be April or May before the All-TVC basketball teams (boys & girls) are released to the papers. That's really unjust to the players and their fans. The time to celebrate the achievements of our young people is when the memories are fresh in our minds.

I say the TVC needs to dump the archaic practice of releasing the names until after all teams have been eliminated from the tournament. This often results in the names never making it onto the sports pages because it is no longer news. There have been years when the TVC basketball teams have not made it to print in the Athens Messenger which is situated right in the middle of the TVC country. That's a fact that can be documented if necessary.

Again, a big congratulations to Tori Dixon, a great Vinton County basketball player.

And I guess that we all have to wait until the parchment hits the stands and someone makes some money on it before we know who actually has been designated all TVC

Keyser,

Thanks for the heads-up. The TVC is so antiquated when it comes to their All-Conference stuff.

The POY averaged 11 ppg in TVC play? Scored 10 points total in 4 games against the top two teams in the league, are you kidding me?

Yeah I have a comment on that one, how does Butcher who never played make all league? That is not fair to the other kids. Iris is a good player and IF she played she would have been all TVC, but she didn't!

WOW!!! Congrats to the Dixon girl. Maybe they should make this a senior with the best career award. Shame on the TVC, no reason for them to take so long to release the info. Waiting til softball season and no one is thinking as much about basketball. As far as the voting, I think for TVC POY the coaches vote and the athlete with the most votes gets that award. As far as All League the teams coach takes what athlete he or she wants with no voting and they are All League with no debate. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ervbaseball13,

You got it right. Coach names players to All-TVC teams and the number of players wach school gets is determined by their final standing in league competition.

For POY, each coach can nominate a player if they so deside, then the coaches vote on the nominees. They can not vote for their own player.
