I think the baseball team has a real shot of putting together a winning season. That would be a great morale boost. Certainly I wouldn't expect a TVC championship this year, but Rome wasn't built in a day!

Some people like to get on threads that have absoluetly nothing to do with them, make some smart mouthed posts, and stir people up. Then when those people say something back to them they cry to the mods and try to get people banned. To that I say grow up. Bump.

I say that NY benefits from having a lot of sophomores see significant minutes last year, and win some games on their schedule that will surprise people outside the NY school district.

The Nelsonville area used to be loaded with baseball talent and used to have some pretty serious baseball leagues. Even in the 90s they were always decent in baseball. Sometimes it's hard to get kids out for sports as the school year wears on for various reasons.

Hope you guys have a great time. Hopefully you enjoy your visit to St. Clairsville and the Downs. We are opening a newly renovated stadium this year so that is very exciting for us. New visitor stands, turf, and a new all weather track...our track now is mud and cinders because the county fair used to have demolition derbies on the track.

Is it about a 2 hour drive for you guys?

Good luck to Derek but I hope he continues his football career! He's too fine of a player and young man to hang em up... ask all of the former Buckeyes who should have played at the next level and they will all tell you they wished they played anywhere at the next level!

I agree but I think that the most important thing is that he get a college education.

I agree, but sometimes as we often see athletics keep young people motivated to stay in school and focused. I would say that some young people might also get into things they shouldn't when they have too much free time. The stress of college life can do a lot of things to the greatest of people. I am not directing my comments here toward Derek, just sharing what my experience has been. I would have like to have seen Derek get away and experience life beyond Athens county. Don't get me wrong I love my hometown, you can always go back, just hoping that more young people get out and experience the world before they go back so they can share their experiences with those they care about. In Derek's case he can get an excellent education at OU and I wish him the best. Football could have been his chance among a lot of great athletes back home get out on their own for a while. But on the other hand OU offers a lot of support which we know all young people need.
