It is decided on how many boys they have, and if you check and see Athens is D2 by 6-10 kids. And as much as you want to talk about Athens being in the TVC, I know for a fact that a lot of these schools wish they had some of the athletes that Athens has.

Ok, so even if Athens went down to D3 they'd maybe make the playoffs with a 9-1 record and then have to play a team like DeSales in the playoffs. They better hope they stay in D2 and don't make the playoffs.

I tried to refrain but the last post about Athens staying in D2 and hope to not make the playoffs is funny. I think every team goes in it with aspirations for post season play. Fansport you can't be serious, if a team goes into it not to make the playoffs then just stay home. See when I offer info on the reason Athens is D2 someone has to come with rediculous comments.

The reason they are in D2 is simple. They have the amount of boys that fits within the numbers that qualify as D2 by OHSAA standards. Just like every other D2 school in the state.

You and I both know that because you have the number of boys don't mean you have the talent. We all know not every boy plays football, the same handfull have been playing since biddy league. But I will lay this to rest because it's like trying to knock down a brick wall with a tennis ball it just won't get through to some people.

but if they did ever drop into D3. they may make the playoffs more or easier. b/c the TVC is a small school league(not saying anything bad about the TVC) but, i think if they did make it to the post season in D3 they'd get a rude awaking just as they would in D2.

Maybe when playoff time comes a representative from Athens should plead their case to the OHSAA. They could explain how they are at a disadvantage being a division 2 school in Athens, Ohio. A city with the population of 21,909 in very rural southeastern Ohio. Ranking second only to Chillicothe with 22,296 people, and right in front of Portsmouth with 20,909 people as one of the largest cities in southeastern Ohio. This way the OHSAA could see the injustice, and make an exception so Athens can play in the division 5 playoffs from now on.

A parallel to an extent would be comparing John Cooper's Ohio State teams in the regular season (TVC) and in the bowl games (Playoffs). He would win the big-10 every now and then, lose to Michigan (Athens - GAHS, N-Y) about every year to finish 9-3, 11-1, 10-2 etc. then get beat in most of the bowl games (teams of supposed fairly equal talent in the Ohsaa playoffs). In the end, yeah you have good teams but when it comes to crunch time at the end of the year and you're playing someone equal to or better than you in the tournament, you lose. You can't beat up patsies (Ohio U., Kent State, Northwestern, Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana) every year and win a big game at the end just as you can't beat up on the Wellstons, Meigs and Vinton Counties of the TVC and expect to win a playoff game. At least in college, OSU is such a big name that they'll play in all the big games. It might be a long time before Athens will make the OHSAA playoffs as a DII team playing in the TVC.

Larusso, great post. But remember, trying to convey obvious common sense to some of these people is like trying to beat down an oak door with a water balloon. It just doesn't seem to get through.

OK I get it there are obviously more people on here upset that Athens is in the TVC. But they are get over it and take a time out in the corner. Ok Athens has more kids in the school, They should be in a different league. Well get more people to come to your school or help to cultivate better athletes. I'm Out

I am not upset about Athens being in the TVC. Just don't understand why people get on here and say it is not fair to say they are a D2 school, and that they should be considered a D5 school.

It's not fair to say Athens is D2 cause they only have 40 players on the football team. They should be considered D6 cause a lot of D6 schools have more than 40. So when you talk about Athens football you can't compare it to D2 cause not all the boys in the school play football. The OHSAA should let Athens be in the D6, or at the worst D5 playoffs.

Most southeastern school will put out less than 60 boys on a team.I think Logan had only a little over 50---- not counting freshman

WHAT???
so, if the ohsaa did that for athens then why not do it for every program that gives them a pitiful sob story.
what about Mr. private school, ST Iggy or ST X that doesn't recuit (wink wink) ;-) players. maybe he wants to drop down to D6 b/c he's tried of playing the top schools in D1 and his only dressing 30 varsity players next year.
     stop it!
not all boys in any school play football!!!
