Waterford vs Harvest Prep- Regional Finals
Re: Waterford vs Harvest Prep- Regional Finals
Good game girls, you really deserved to win this game because you out played Harvest Prep until the final seconds, you truely are a better team. The Watts girl for Harvest Prep should have been fouled out in the 4th quater and shouldnt even been able to take that shot, she was over the back so many times it wasnt even funny, it almost seemed like the refs were afraid to foul her out. Also loosing Emily Brown in overtime definitely hurt. Congrats on a great season girls and everyone is proud of you!

Re: Waterford vs Harvest Prep- Regional Finals
Just got home from watching both games. Plymouth didn't know what hit them from the get go. HP won the game 73-39 with all the starters except one on the bench with 5:00 to go in the 4th quarter. I'm friends with one of the ladies who went to Plymouth high school years ago and she said to me in the bleachers "culture shock" just hit this team when they walked on the floor and she wasn't mistaken. #24 for HP is a zone buster and a three point machine, #32 if a forward (not very big) but takes down a lot of rebounds and gets a lot of junk baskets with her hustle and the other impact player is the big girl in the middle #20. She makes excellent spin moves around the basket for easy points and can shoot either left or right handed on either side of the basket. I think the big thing Saturday night will be which one of the bigs (Sina or the HP girl) get the most and earliest fouls on them and have to sit. This will change the game immensely as both team have scrappy girls and like to trap a lot. One HP fan sitting behind me said he's seen better jr. high teams here in Columbus than Waterford but I guess we'll see here in a couple of days. Good luck H2o ford
I tried to give Waterford's coach a scouting report from the Harvest Prep-Plymouth game I posted above the other day but he didn't heed my advice and read our topic here. The "big girl" gets 25 points against Waterford and the Columbus Dispatch today said in the write up for the game (pg. C-6, bottom left) "Watts, a 5-foot-10 junior center, scored 25 points, mostly on spin moves to the basket and free throws. Oh well, what do any of us on SEOPS know anyway. You've gotta have coaching credentials and certifications to be a real coach.

Lately I've seen several teams, ahead by three late, not invoke the fouling strategy, and allow the possibility of a loss come strongly into play by draining a trey. You'd think, especially now with the free throw rebounding position further away from the basket that it would be good strategy. That their chances of putting them on the line and them making the first free throw and missing the 2nd(on purpose) and then rebounding the miss in for a tying duece before the clock runs out is not nearly as great as making the trey in the first place. Not invoking the foul strategy just miffs me.
I did not see this game to know the exact situation. I was at that great Ironton/Peebles game where the same thing happened. Ironton, in spite of having a non-shooting foul to give, did not use it and Seaman hit a trey to put it into overtime, and Ironton did win it in the end with their own trey to win by one at the end of the 2nd OT. It was not the same situation at the end of the 2nd OT as two would have tied it and they were in the double bonus.

I was hoping for, along with Miami Trace and Ironton, three SE district girls teams in Columbus! I'm sure it will always be a memory of what might have been with the Waterford players, coaches, parents, and community. Has been great following their runs the last several years.
